Examples with a Beautydish
Was thinking about getting a 22" beautydish. Anyone have examples with this, opinions? Dec 27 07 08:30 am Link Frog516 wrote: Lots of fashion photographers use beauty dish. But, I'm deleting all my photos for the New Year, to make way for 2008 shots...so, I can't upload any at this time. If I come across one, I will. Dec 27 07 08:58 am Link www.alienbees.com has one for their light set up for really cheap, but you have to make sure you get the highest output strobe with it "the b1800". I use it, its a great set up, Unless you have $10,000. to spend on the Hansel Portable light and beauty dish, many fashion photgrapghers use it and it is also a very useful light when you want the attention to draw to the center its like creating a vignette without photoshop. Most of the time I just used the dish - sometimes a reflector also. EDIT: None are in my portfolio. No Photoshop. --- Additional light: hair light from the top/behind of the model (spot 18 degree grid) and Canon 430 flash behind model directed to background. Dec 27 07 09:51 am Link Dec 27 07 09:53 am Link I used it in most of my indoor shots Dec 27 07 09:55 am Link I have some stuff using the beauty dish with a soft box but here is one with just the dish alone... AB800 w/ beauty dish Dec 27 07 09:58 am Link I used a beauty dish as my main light in more than half of the photos in my port Dec 27 07 09:58 am Link I just got one for Christmas! The AB version. So far I've only experimented with it on my wife and myself but I am impressed. And so was she. In about 5 minutes I took some of the best photos of her that I have ever taken! Oh yeah, she wasn't wearing any make up at all and even she was happy with the way her skin looked with no photoshop. I can't wait to play with it some more. Maybe I can post some from that shoot l little later. Dec 27 07 10:03 am Link Dec 27 07 10:06 am Link It ain't what you use but the way that you use it... x Dec 27 07 10:09 am Link The AB dish is 22inches, works fine, but grids for it are $180 a pop. Broncolor dish is 20 inches and grids are $100 from speedotron, of all places. For me, the key component is the grid. Dec 27 07 10:11 am Link Mark Cant wrote: Thats is the best comment here so far. Dec 27 07 10:26 am Link Was thinking of getting one as well. I'm curious, though, what the difference is between a beauty dish and a silver reflective umbrella, other than the ability to attach modifiers? Dec 27 07 10:27 am Link I use one quite a bit. This one is a 19" elinchrom dish balanced with fill (2:1) and ambient light. larger one in the port. Dec 27 07 10:54 am Link Here's another one. I only had the beauty dish for about 5 minutes and she wasn't wearing any make up. What do you think? And one more just for fun. Dec 27 07 11:00 am Link Smoot Photography wrote: I think the dish was too close so you blew out the highlights to expose most of the face. I also don't think that a dish is the best modifier for split lighting. I'd try it for butterfly or loop lighting. Dec 27 07 11:15 am Link Dec 27 07 11:22 am Link Here are a few examples, all with grid several different dishes, I am not a huge fan of an unmodified mola, the spedtron blackline dish is my favorite followed by a hensel silver with deflector, not the grided one or at least not with a center grid, I do not use dishes without grids unless I am outside using it as a sun from far away. Broncolor makes a nice one also. Stephen Eastwood http://www.StephenEastwood.com Dec 27 07 11:51 am Link |
