Hi!  I have yet to go on a shoot that shows my midriff, but I want photographers who view my port to know what my midsection looks like.  Unfortunately, the best background I have (a black shower curtain) is in my bathroom and the lighting is not good.  It flattens out what little definition there is and is low so my little Pentax has a hard time focusing.  The results are not spectacular...

I would love a quick tip or two on how much lighting I should bring in and good places to position the lamps.  I'm not looking to create the illusion of a totally fit, perfect torso, but I would like to show mine in the most flattering way I can.

cross light - ie.  say your main light is on the left, turn your hips to the right, shoulders a little less to the right but keep your head going to the left - your face will be short lit, your body cross lit.... you have to experiment with this though to get the light where you need it (and the pose isn't 'extreme' either...)  hth..

Next shoot you do have them shoot the mid drift or what ever you called it. just a thought.

Shouldn't be that hard. Not tryin to be mean.

Why would I think that was mean?

don't forget the trick of blowing all the air out of your lungs,,,you'd be amazed what that does for the mid section

Well forgive me for being dense, but I am going to assume that is a joke.

I don't think it's a joke.  When you blow all the air out of our lungs right before the shot, your diaphragm and ab muscles contract and it tightens up your torso a bit.  That, combined with standing at an angle to the lights as was stated above, can have very desirable effects.  The worst thing that you can do is be squared up with the camera under flat light, as you are in the shot you posted.  Not to be overly harsh, but that's usually not a good pose for any woman, no matter what their body type or frame.  There are a lot of books out there on corrective posing for photographers that cover this topic very well.  If you want, you should go down to the local book store and browse through them.

The correct pose will make your tummy and rear smaller, make you look taller, and give you more bust (not that you need any help in that area!) and I have yet to meet a woman that has wanted the opposite in an image.

The only part about that I didn't like was making the rear smaller...I need the opposite...haha.  Is there a way to make it look like some of the weight in my chest is actually in my butt?

try breathing from your belly, rather than you ribs...  you'll see what I mean.

Physically moving boob mass to butt mass might be difficult:)

Practice posing in the mirror.  One thing to try for that, is arch your back and bend over slightly.  Have the photographer shoot you from a 45 degree angle from the rear.  That'll make your butt look big!

Take this one for example:
https://modelmayhm-5.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/071116/15/473e00f6cee37_m.jpg

The posing angle and wider-angle lens that I used in this one gave her a little more "meat".  I guess it was a happy accident as that was not my intention.  She likes the image though.  (by the way, her butt is small, and what I would consider to be perfect!  Butt, that's just my preference!)

You need to have her twist in the middle.  A good pose will make her look a lot thinner.

Come to think of it, I do have a few that I took when I lived somewhere else and they make me look a lot better.  I won't post them because they are even worse quality than the ones i have now...but I can try to recreate the angle, lighting, and poses.

Thanks, everyone!  I will try your suggestions out asap.

I'm amazed here in the photographers forum nobody has given this responce.

If you are serious about this hire a good photographer, tell the photographer what you want and let them worry how to pose and light you. It would be money well spent. More than anything else you need to pro level work in your portfolio.

You might even find a good photographer willing to shoot TFP.

You might want to check this thread and see if there is someone in your area listed.

Don't let photographer's shoot you straight on and especially with flat light.  There aren't many girls who can be shot straight on and look flattering for the model.

EDIT - Bill brings up a great point regarding working with more experienced photographers.  What separates a great photographer from an inexperienced photographer is knowing how to capture every image so that it flatters the model.  They know how to emphasize strong points and minimize weak points.

This is just one sample of lighting that would help you.  If you contact me on here, I will email you samples of a girl that I shot who is built much like you.
