For video, think they are pretty cool, 1000wat in a softbox quick release.  For stills not enough light for anything I would want.  I would sooner use a vivtar 285hv.

not enough light as in 'i want to shoot at 'f8/125 iso100' or not enough light for 'f2.8/60th iso 400'?

24x36" Softbox double diffused at 6 feet from subject is like 1/30th to 1/45th at 400 iso at f 4-5.6.  Just about.

I've just started getting into studio lights and decided that the Photoflex Starlights best approximated natural window light (with the right white balance, of course) within my budget. Right now, I have a medium softbox and 3 foot octodome. I'm really enjoying them!

And, if I ever decide to get some strobes, the Photoflex softboxes will still work with them.

I tend to shoot from wide open to f/4 or f/5 at the smallest aperture. I think the highest iso I used was 320.

I am a pure novice at lighting... but, here are my first few trials...

With the single medium softbox...
