****The next Maryland Group event will be held at Patapsco  State Park] Join us!

***The former Baltimore Meet and Greet Thread***
  Where - Fells Point, Baltimore
When - Sunday, April 13th, 11AM-9PM! Yea Baby.

Post Mortem

Wow. That was a whole lot of fun. By my count we had just over 40 photographers, at least 25 models, and 2 MUA/Designers. Not too shabby.

We got some awesome pics posted in the last couple of thread pages. I'm already thinking about doing this one again in October. Cheers!!!!

With luck, the weather will be good and we can go ahead with the Meet and Greet as planned; which is to say a celebration to warm spring weather and the glory of shooting outdoors. If the weather is tolerable, we will meet as planned in the big square in Fells Point and frolic and chat and shoot to our hearts content. For those of you not entirely familiar with Fells point the precise location is HERE. There is a large, semi-circular stone bench in this corner of the square. Unless the homeless have beaten me to it, I plan to set up shop right here starting at 12:00 noon on Sunday. (Thanks to Mike in MD for the link).

If the weather is bad, you need a drink or some space, Max's on Broadway are willing to host those of us who are >21 when they open at 2:00 on Sunday. Max's is one of the few establishments in Fells Point capable of holding a crowd of 75+ people. They normally charge several hundred dollars to host a private event, HOWEVER, given the amount of beer I've drunk there over the years they were willing to waive the fee. Max's has recently been rated the #18 Bar in the USA by BeerAdvocate.com, and #17 in the WORLD by RateBeer.com, so if you like beer you won't be able to do any better.

The Max's option is availiable rain-or-shine. As suggested, there's also the Daily Grind at 1720 Thames St. We have no formal, informal, implied or suggested permission to descend on the coffee shop en mass, but it's a great place to dodge a few raindrops if necessary. The Daily grind IS the one good coffee shop referred to in the original announcement. Locals love the joint, so it might be crowded on Sunday afternoon...

Max's info can be found at MAX's On Broadway.  They are at the corner of Broadway and Lancaster, ideally located for the event.

Parking: There should be ample street/metered parking, but if you choose there is a reasonably priced garage located at the corner of Bond and Thames St.

Other minor changes; I posted these proposals a few days ago on the forum and the only responses I got back where extremely positive, so we'll slam them up here now. This is it, I promise.

1) sign-in! I'm going to ask everyone in attendance to sign in with real name, address, phone number, MM#, etc. In return I will have a small party favor for everyone - a wristband or badge for the Tog's, and some sort of id for all the models and MUA's. I want to find something that will let us identify those of us who are attending the event vs the run-of-the-mill tourists. And yes, this is party for safety's sake. I'm sure we've all heard stories about various "interesting" photographers and models... You can also register whom you're shooting with if you so desire.

2) Photographer/Model swap-out: In general, try to keep your shooting sessions down to under an hour with any one model/photographer combination. The idea of the event is to meet new people, not to build an entire portfolio around one person. Also, Please keep to places within walking distance.

3) Theme shoot: For anyone that wants to I'll pick a theme shoot for the day and we can all post our pictures back to the forum afterwards. Themes could be (but probably won't be) Best shot with a Tourist, Most nautical, Best shot with a crab... I'm also open to suggestions if you want to PM me.

Fells Point is a great location with a large open plaza adjacent to the waterfront with lots of walkways, piers and nooks to work with. The tourists tend to stay away from it as well. Parking is ample and easy, with many great restaurants, pubs, and a single good coffee shop.

This event is free and open to anyone. It's a chance to meet local photographers, models and MUA's in real life. There is no actual "organized even", We're simply all descending on Fells Point at the same time at the same day - just like the DC Meet and Greets at DuPont Circle. Feel free to bring cameras, portfolios, and any tools of the trade. I like shooting in natural light and I'm hoping the weather will behave.

More Fells Point info at http://www.fellspoint.us/

I'm willing to keep a list of confirmed or very probable attendees. Also check here before the event in case the weather turns on us. It is not necessary to confirm to attend.

ok, great volume of responses for just a few hours. I like the idea of Fells Point, you're away from the tourists but still lots of good water locations if anyone wants to shoot. My only concern is if we do the actual meet n greet part in a bar it would be a 21+ event. If we wait til the end of March we could just meet in the plaza near the water taxis... In theory we have a few more weeks of winter?

During the day I don't think all the bars are 21+.

Time to give this a bump. Late March/early-mid April would be a good time.

I'm available... time for me to learn how to network any how, but the last week of March, first week of April isn't good for me. I'll be in Cancun.

Looks like there is enough interest. How about we pick a Saturday in late march/early April? If anyone has a better suggestion for a Baltimore location, let's hear it!

Sounds good to me. I've tried to make the last couple in NOVA and DC but my work took me elsewhere. Somebody set a date, time and place (preferably a weekend).

I've got a camera, count me in.

(So long as it is not March 29 or April 19, which would be very bad days to hold a meet and greet on.)

Sounds like a winner to me.

If the weather cooperates, it'll be real nice to get outside for a bit after being confined to the studio all winter. If it's a yucky day, I can think of worse things to do than enjoying hot food and cold beer while perusing everyone's portfolios.

Chances are I won't be able to make it if it's a saturday... That's my busy day that time of the year... not to mention 3 days before my birthday!

I know I started this thread, but my life is currently not organized enough that I can pick a date/time and actually follow through with organizing it. Things should settle down for me in a couple of weeks.

I think April is a good month to try for; if we plan it for a Saturday we can build in the Sunday as an automatic rain day if nature doesn't cooperate.

We totally need more models to make it a proper meet N greet.

So, if anyone in the area wants to jump in and organize this one great, if not, I'll do it once March gets here.

Cheers!

I would love to make this one......would rather it be 3rd wknd in March or lets just skip to the 1st wknd in April....Not sure if anyone has ever been to Pazo, but if we are looking for a spot for early morning I'm sure they can accomodate, or there are of course studios that we might be able to just rent for the day and order pizza, ok maybe not pizza but something good....

Lets make this happen, got some models that would love to go and a couple photogs that are not on here also.....

i can go with sunday 4/13... that seems to allow more folks to come out. (the comment about rain days is a good point, though) can we come up with an indoor alternative?

maybe i can talk to the AVAM folks and see if we can use the "Art Barn" at the Visionary Arts Museum for free...

lets nail the date down... i can help coordinate but can't do it alone. very busy time.

Hey all, try and pick a date and time, and I'll do my bestest to be there!

I don't know the logisitics of this, but it would be pretty neat if we could actually get a restaurant to cooperate on shooting inside one of their bars/restaurants.   And it would totally rock if we could get some MUA's in on this.   smile
