how much is it? alien bee has one for $400. alien bee and zeus's ring flash are very cheap plastic and very clumsy to hand hold Dyna-lite's ringflash just came out is about 3200ws, and more expensive than the Hensel or Pro-foto 1200 ws units Own the 2400ws $300 AB Zeus ring flash. It emits light and is a great price, but in terms of quality of construction, it's complete crap

I've been using Dynalites for 8 years now. If I ever have a problem (and I haven't) they're just 40 minutes away in Union, NJ. I think their stuff is great and have no complaints. But now Dyna pisses me off. I/We have been asking for a ringflash for several years. And now they give us one except it's $1800. Geez Dyna, thanks.

I tried the Hensel, the only problem I had was that it was made out of plastic... I now have the Profoto Ringflash which I use on my Hensel Porty Premium Plus.

Have it, love it. Little pricey and a little late in its release but better late than never. The calumet, AB, and hensel and they always didn't feel that right. The Dyna-Lite one was made by Comet as well, thats why the price I think is a little high but felt like I got what I paid for. 3200 w/s, dual fan cooled so I am not worrying about overheating and weighed under 3lbs. In the end, just felt right in hand

A lot of my friends using the AB's and throw the accessories in my face of "We got this you don't". However, been using my Dyna's for about 7 years...and unlike my friends, never had to send them in for replacement cause they fell apart Been renting the new ring flash in the city, i'm just putting the pennies together I think it will last and work as well if not better than the my M1000 packs

Speaking of Dyna-Lite, should I send a malfunctioning power pack to them or Calumet for repair?

They'd rather have solid steel, so they can cry in their cunts about how heavy it is.

Actually with my AB ringflash, I tried to turn one of the plastic knobs and it broke off. On a location shoot while I was reaching for my ballast, wind knocked over my stand with ab rignflash and the plastic mount sheered off. Finally, was using the moon unit thing and the heat from the ringlight's modeling lamps melted the plastic on the moon unit...and the moon unit than fell off the ring light. The cheap plastic makes the unit very fragile.

For those of you who are whining about the cost of the dyna ring: Get an older profoto acute ring, and have it repinned. Good service or not, the AB stuff is crap. Paul Buff's company has become the Kragen of studio gear. Sad.

The new Dyna-lite ringflash is very similar to the new profoto pro unit - has a modeling light and fan to keep it cool, very well made.

Love the Dynalite Ringflash - yes it's pricey (so is the new Profoto one) but built like a tank. If I need something more portable (i.e. battery powered) I use the Lumedyne one - also well built and has a handle grip. Granted the Lumedyne cost as much as 3 AB's w/o it's battery pack, but you get what you pay for, especially as AB's vary far too much in Color Temp

The cheap plastic makes the unit very fragile. I had someone else break a plastic knob on mine, was replaced asap by AB. This is why you put a weight on your light stands. If something is over heating, turn the modeling lamp off. So all in all, if you mistreat your equipment, or are clumsy, it breaks. You want something that is child proof essentially. You do get what you pay for, indeed. But it's not that difficult to NOT break things. ---- -ASYLUM-
