OMG the model on the cover is wearing a tank top with caution tape... I'm disapointed in Zink!

you are aware that most of the real world have never been on one of these sites and have never heard of the cliches we all see daily.  Most agents I know do not know what tfp or tfcd means and have never heard the term, seems strange to me that they never heard it, but its true its not as wide spread as it seems to those who are frequently online.  I am sure Sean never heard about these issues when he choose it. hmm

Stephen, I think this quote should be posted above the gates of ModelMayhem, and every time someone logs on to the site they should be forced to reread it. Can you see to that for us? wink

Ummm... many artists (outside of MM) would conclude that caution tape is tacky.

Not next month, since most people are followers, its now in print, it must be good.  And speaking of it Italian Vogue has also had caution tape in a spread before, as has numero, french and I think tank.  None of them got the memo. hmm

It was for an article titled "Caution! This idea has been done to death!"

I think photographers get tired of seeing the same concepts after a period of time and consider them 'overdone', but clients and 'normal' people have completely different and fresh points of view.

For example, almost everyone here is probably sick and tired of 'selective color', where an entire image is in black and white with a few 'splashes of color'. However what if you agree to shoot a wedding and the bride tells you she would really like some images like that? Are you supposed to tell her that the idea is overdone and old? Of course not, you give her what she wants. It's old and overdone to you, but not necessarily to everyone else.

I agree that when we see stuff like that we think overdone. But when the general public sees it they do not.
Case in point:trying to get people where I live interested in shooting anything that wasn't done to death already in NY,London, etc almost 10 years ago. lol
wink
There are exceptions of course, but so many are just rehashing it is ridiculous.
Slap some black shadow on a girl and they think they've cornered the market on edgy.
It's all perception,demographics,yadda yadda.
I'm trying to break out as we speak.

BUT,I will have to see the issue and the article. They are one of my favorite mags,so I hope it's not as bad as I am thinking.

For sure. And it will ultimately spread like wildfire after more artists see the issue. It's like when everyone runs out to do sprinkles-as-makeup when some mag features it again, or geisha makeup, etc.

Again: do not mistake MM for the real world, or certainly the industry - it isn't even an accurate microcosm of it.

I see plenty of cliches used in big magazines. Nothing new.
