So I don't shoot minors without parents consent and present.  However, the mom is willing to sign release and permission and allow the 18 year old boyfriend to escort her.  Out on location and very public.  I have been an instructor and a substitute.  Will this be any different?  Or is it best to "say no" and insist on the parent to be present?  Age of the model is 16.

As far as I know, parent or legal guardian should be present.

Edit: That's not to say I haven't done that lol

If not shooting nudes or any provocative, then I'd just do it. I wouldn't want to upset a busy parent by 'strong arming' them to attend a shoot when they have somewhere else to be.

I know better.  I just don't feel confortable about it.  But the mom is always at work and she came up with the idea.

I decided to not do it.  Parents must be present and I don't feel right; therefore, I will say no.

I would if I knew the mother a little better.  And about nudes or prvocative, never.

thanks.

Wow. I wonder how all those high school seniors get their pictures taken without their parents present.

Remote control.  The photographer shoots from another state.

So that's where web cam model interviews originated.

why are photographers still asking these questions????

what type of pictures are you planning on doing with her?  porn???

why would it matter if she had an escort, BF, Parents, etc...  if anything, i think the BF would be more of a problem than anything...

those that say they would never shoot a minor without escorts would be throwing away a good chance of discovering someone new.  if you don't plan on having Chris Hanson popping up behind the wall, you shouldn't have a problem.

The photographer is given control of the subject's web cam.

Edit: I was a little late.

From reading these forums, one would think minors are infected with some kind of plague.

They don't have to be present when school pics are taken, not even in grade school.  Shoot!!

I shoot High school seniors, so I work with mostly underaged kids, just keep it clean and not a bad idea if you take along one of your staff.

just be smart and know where to draw the line.

It is always much better to do the shoot with their parent actually there.

If she just turn up with her boyfriend, some of them are very possessive!!! You might got accuse of all sorts....

I once dance with a girl in a salsa club which I happen to know her for some time. Her boyfriend got very jealous & they both end up arguing for the whole nite!
Could you imagine if that happen during a shoot.... say the model smile at you, & her boyfriend jealous .... thinking she is flirting with you !

Better get the model to bring her parent there ... minus the boyfriend

The part in bold would only be true if the next word was "or" instead of "and."

I would insist on having the parent present given this is a minor girl with an adult (legally, anyhow)boyfriend. Parents are the guardians, not the boyfriend and they should be present.  Given that you are involved in the education of minors I would want to avoid anything that could be perceived as wrong since your livelihood could depend on it.

ETA: At minimum meet with the parents prior to the session to discuss and get signed consent forms.  For senior sessions, I meet with the parents prior to shooting and prefer to have them along.  This alleviates any concerns about whether the wardrobe was approved, etc.  Sometimes kids will show up wearing rumpled clothes and then the parents complain about the final portraits.  Having the parents there means the client (mom & dad) get what they want. :-)
