Says who?? You? Why? Because you can't get the hang of it? Figures.. but since you can't grasp selective coloring, how about taking a few classes on curve adjustment and or color balancing..

I generally dislike selective desaturization (i.e. removing all but one color from a color photo).
I generally like selective tinting (i.e. adding color to areas of a black and white photo).

I agree. I really don't like it but there are instances where it can really work well in an image.

Sometimes my turds make a pleasing shape in the bowl, but I don't go out of my way to look... at least I don't admit it.

I'm not a fan, but people are amazed by it.  They think it is the best thing since sliced bread.  If you don't want to be paid by wedding and portrait clients, then don't use it.  If you want cash, then use it.  Simple!

I have found lower end wedding clients like it, higher end don't.

The only thing that motivates brides and their moms on the wedding day is sheer panic and the hope that they don't throw up at the altar smile

It's low-end, it's cheesy, it's amateur and best left to the creative director to employ as form of photo-mutilation...uh I mean article illustration.

Agreed. I have yet for a Senior client to NOT ask for it.
" Can you make it black and white with only my eyes in colour?"
They are paying, and the customer is always right.

From me? Noooooooo.

For every thing you name that *you* think sucks, I guarantee we can go through your work (or anyone else's) and pick things that are overdone, boring, lousy, etc.

If you don't like it, fine. Telling other people how to manage their creativity is weak sauce.

I don't agree. Weddings for instance. I take my work seriously. I have a style. People pay me for my style. They know this up front. I don't want someone to look through one of the albums I did and see selective coloring and assume thats what i do. If a bride wants selective coloring, I tell them we should not work together.
