I'd like to make my own backdrop, I need to know what kind of paint can I
use to make a good one that is not going to weight too much ?

Ive made my own but used a studio wall instead of canvas, but it should work fine to use latex.

If you dont like how it shoots, keep on painting....

Latex is the way to go.  I've made lots of canvas backdrops that way.  "Oops" paints are great finds and cheap.  Those are the paints that the customers believed were the wrong shade, and almost all paint stores have them, usually at about 1/2 price.

Each coat of paint will add weight, so be judicious.  I usually thin it a bit and apply the base color with a roller.  Then the accent colors are brushed in.  You'll mess up a few times, but don't get discouraged.

Good luck.

a wet canvas and watered down acrylic latex paint can make a nice wash. Sponges/rags will help create nice shapes & detail/patterns

A high count linen cloth and rite dye  soaked in a cooler works well too, just remember to wear rubber gloves.

typically when you paint on canvas on want flexible fabric after, cut the latex paint 3 to 1 with water.  If you're going to paint on muslin it's more like 5 to 1.
