I think you're going to be hard pressed to get as many entries because of this.  Most working artists do not have the time to put this together and get the image back from the photographer in time.  If we were shooting it ourselves it would be another story, but having to rely on another person to get you the images back in time is difficult.

Can I get some clarification...  Black & white makeup meaning similar to the Primary color thread where we only use those colors or B&W makeup specifically for B&W photography?

And for the record, I agree with Ashley on this.  It is nearly impossible for me to set up a shoot (essentially a TFCD) of a specific look I want (never mind what the photographer & model want) meanwhile trying to work on other paid photoshoots, music videos and film work in a mere 3 weeks.  As much as I want to participate in these contests (hence the need for clarification in case I do get time), but realistically, if I am looking at posting a professional picture.... it just isn't possible... and if it is, that means that I am not working enough to pay bills!  wink

I agree ,   it's next to impossible for me to get a model and do a pro looking shoot in 3 weeks while working , and It seems nobody is sending in camera phone quality pics for the contest lol   well except me ha ha ha ha    uggggggggg

i have to agree with the others and petition this rule. i basically only get to play and trade once a month or so...and when i do, its usually a collaboration...not just my vision. Its not a realistic rule and will most likely cause people to cheat and dig something up from the past.

I guess if you don't like this rule you shouldn't enter. Why not take the picture yourself?

The challemge is about the make up not about the quality of the image!

Because not all of us have younger brothers, sisters, husband, wives, friends that are readily available to use as a model.  And although I am surely an exception to the general populous of stylists, I do not own a camera since my was stolen 6 months ago.  And lets be honest, the quality of the picture makes a HUGE impact on the overal look of the makeup.  It's a rarity that a low quality picture will be out voted on over a high quality picture.

Would it not be a better idea to have a list of themes set up for each specific month in advance? This was people can choose which theme they want to use and plan their shoots accordingly, enter the competition when it's the right month and go from there.
Then the person who wins gets to choose a new theme that is a few months in advance with enough notice for other people to enter.
This will give people the oppertunity to get new work submitted for the competition rather than older work due to lack of time...

Just an idea smile

I couldnt agree more... I've got TERRIBLE photography skills and trying to get a tog to take pics of my work in such short notice to put up is hard.. Would be ace to be able to pick what theme we are doing in advance and enough time to prepare. smile

I have to agree with what everyone is saying.  I have actually been planning a shoot that I'd be able to enter in this round of voting, but we're doing it September 14.  No way to move it up, everyone's too busy.

This isn't entirely true , if you look at the winning images they all look professional to me , nobody has won with a camera phone pic

agreed. I wont enter if the rule sticks... but i like the contest i hope the petition wins. I third (or is it forth?) this rule out of existence.

i disagree - i think the winner picking the next theme is fun, and the only real incentive to win.

Well the problem is pleasing everyone right. this was the original rule and older pictures were entered and have won WHICH i left alone as i figured it wasnt a big deal. however a few persons did bring it to my attention that the pics werent new and were of old work.

so which side do we please? or can we meet in the middle.

however one thing that must be followed is that what ever theme is chosen is stuck to

BLACK AND WHITE= colour ( even tho black and white arent colours) smile

not in terms of black and white photography

I say if you can come up with a new shoot theme in the 3 weeks time mabey extra consideration should be given to it
But mabey existing work is open game as something that is great and timeless is ... well great and timeless and deserves a look at and consideration
It's just been super hard for me to get this together while also working and I so wanna play with you all smile

Well, I think if you want more participation, then just a handful of entries, it is better to open the contest up to old pics as well.  However to help cut down on seeing some of the same images over and over again, perhaps adding a rule that images can't be used back to back (although I doubt many would fall under the same catagory anyway).  Check out the rules for the POD contests on the general forum.  This is a good guide to show what has worked in the past for these types of contests.

Oh definitely, but to get it going set up a further 2 ideas after the black & white theme to give more planning time. any person winning will pick a new theme for the next upcoming competition but with a few months gap to allow for the whole planning thing. 3/4 weeks isn't really enough to plan something, i definitely won't have time to plan anything new or soemthing specifically for this for the fun of it.

I like Angela's idea.  Let the originator come up with two more ideas and post them, so we can see in advance the three upcoming shoots.  When the next winner is chosen, they then add on their chosen theme to the 3rd place spot as everything else moves up.  Great idea!  Once we get through those other two themes that were originally chosen, then only the winners will be picking the themes.  Also, for another incentive, what if we create a "badge" (graphic of some sort), that the winner can put on their MM page?  I know they do that for the other contests (I have one on my page).

Or you can submit anything you want but you cant ever use that photo again. I have pics I have not posted yet because the photographer hasnt gotten me pics (paid shoots you wait till you get tears usually) so no one would be wiser if I posted an "old" pic and Im sure Im not the only one
So why make it a big deal when you can still get around it?

I dont think posting work you have done a few photo shoots ago or a brand new shoot once given the concept is a big deal... but you can make a rule to not post that photos or use it again for any other theme.

ok so rule amendment:

Pictures idealy should be created for the theme, however other completed work, once it has all elements required of the current theme are allowed. No repeat pictures.

Also concerning picking the themes, to make sure im following: lets say i win this theme, therefore i pick the next two themes? and then the person that wins the next pics another two? and then we do my last theme (since i picked two) and the person that won the first one we now do the first of that two? and then the person that wins that one pics two ? and then we do the last of the first two? ????????????????????????

to be honest really, this is supposed to be an area where we can create pieces according to what we like. our style etc. we all know that we dont always get to be as creative or non creative as we like. what ever the client wants, thats what they get rght? so this is where we can let down our hair so to speak. and to see how differently we each interpret the theme etc.

the incentive of winning is obviously to pick the theme. each one lasts 3 weeks and ive stated that as we do work we can always increase the time.

and ps. you guys are running out of time for the black and white theme tongue

An idea. The person that wins in september pick two themes. One for october, and one for november. And the person who win in October pic ONE theme for December, the one who wins in nowember pic the theme for january, and so on. Then you will always have tvo months to plan your shoot.

what do you think?

Sorry for my spelling tongue

but then why does sept get to pic two? no no no no lol you guys are tooo spoilt!! smile

it remains as is guys, winner picks the next theme. only one theme. as it currently is. look at how much confusion there is with just one theme at a time...

the clause where you can use an older pic is suposed to compensate for that fact that you cant get something done in time and if u have a matching pic then submit it by all means. we had quite a few entries last theme didnt we?
