My little 17 year old sister has started posing nude. She says she's not lying about her age to her affiliates, but she lies on her profile. I'm confused about what to do. I am concerned about her safety, future (as a model) and the careers of the people she works with. No one including the parents have any control whatsoever over her. She turns 18 in November. Should I contact authorities? Should I contact the photog(s) and inform them that she is currently 17?

As per hundreds (maybe thousands) of posts here on MM, posing nude is not illegal for her, nor the photographer. Granted, she can't enter into a contract (not 18), so I don't think the images are usable in anything but a personal portfolio.

it all depends on the nature of the photographs. Have you seen the work? is it sexual? if your worried for her safety but wont stop shooting nudes, then go as an escort with her, or just make sure she is safe. xx

Ask; Why did "Kimberly" write her main profile in the 'third person'? Just wondering...

ZOMG! Its a national emergency. But srsly tho, its not illegal for a minor to pose nude. As long as she is upfront with the people she works about it its not any of our business.

A minor is defined by any person under the age of 18....In this country it is ILLEGAL to photograph a minor nude without consent from the minors parent or guardian in writing and can still be considered child pornography. If you know the photographer(s), I suggest you warn them...as for your sister, tell her to wait a few more months and she can do anything she wants when she hits 18.

Please contact the photographers. They can do up to 15 years for each picture taken even if they had copies of ID's and a signed contract!

I am a prosecutor. It's illegal because it is legally defined as child porn. Contact me.

Exactly what, I am in no position to offer advice on. However, I'm sure that you love your sister and wish her no harm. So, with that said, it is time for you to react in her 'best interest' and also the best interest for those that she shoots adult style nudes with - before somebody goes to jail!!!

Not to mention if it's explicit, there is a title 18 violation subject to community standards where it is viewed (Federal)

Think about the long term relationship with your sister first. Given her close to 18 year old status to what good will it be to stir the pot at this point ? Sounds like she has a case of the wilds. Tell her how you feel and advise her to act in a safe manor. Past that take a deep breath, move on with life.

For certain things there is a legal line in the sand that should not be pushed. Legal issues asside, I don't think 3 months will make a huge difference to her personally. Somebody may be breaking the law but other than that I see no harm.

Beyond telling your parents or site management (of a possible case of fraud...your sister is not perportating to be the age she says she is), I really don't see it being any of your business. Look at it from the receivers end. You don't know each other. For all they know, they can easily view you as a person looking to create unnecessary drama. Lord knows there's no shortage of those kinds of people in this world.

For the record, the picture was posted on her MM, making it public (rather than in a private collection of her, the photographer and the other models).

Brian Diaz wrote: Can you please cite the law that states that? Thanks. Brian, we both know that they can't cite a law. Lewd photographs of minors are illegal in some states (which I grant you is subjective), photos of real or simulated sex is illegal in all states with a minor as is a lascivious display of the genitals (nude or not). That is covered in Federal law, 18 USC 2256. Many states use the same language. Beyond that, most of what is being said in this thread is just made up! Having said that, it is NOT SMART to take photos of a minor in the nude, but being stupid doesn't necessarily make it illegal. I really wish we would stop with these threads. If it were me, I would sit down and have a conversation with my sister, or if necessary, my parents. Your sister isn't going to get arrested, but, depending on what the photographers are shooting, the photos could possibly be illegal. But, to be honest, I have no sympathy for them. They should be checking her ID. If they are not, and your sister does something that is illegal for them to shoot, it is their problem. They have no business shooting a model nude without checking ID. Talk to your sister or talk to your parents. The photographers are adults. They should behave properly or they deserve the consequences.
