Welcome to the new home of the

Central florida from the areas between Orlando and St Pete M&G chit chat thread"

We hope to have our next meet & greet in September
Feel Free to weigh into the conversation

WELCOME!

MAJOR UPDATE!
GO TO THE EVENT THREAD TO GET YOUR NAME ON THE LIST

https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thre … age=1#last

The next Tampa Bay Model Mayhem Meet & Greet is scheduled for:

Saturday September 12, 2009
3 p.m. till just after Sunset

CRABBY BILLS
401 Gulf Boulevard
Indian Rocks Beach, FL 33785
(727)595-4825

** (As of August 9) 25 people who are cooler, sexier, and funnier than everyone else are gonna be there.  You should get on the list too! **

WOW! This place is what the beach is all about.
Just across from the beautiful Gulf beaches, Crabby Bills is an open air restaurant with a full bar. Casual atmosphere, great seafood, cold drinks, the perfect Florida beach experience.
No dress code

I strongly suggest everybody bring their camera because once you see the sunset you are going to want to shoot there.

MEET & GREET INFO

Photographers - Chance to mingle, meet, network, get your questions answered in person by any one of your peers, eyeball potential models for future assignments before you book them, meet new models that you never knew looked so good that you definately will book in the future.

Models - Chance to mingle, meet, network, network, network and start booking shoots. There will be a lot of photogs there. If you can't book work out of a meet & greet, or at least talk to a photog about booking in the future, you need to rethink your approach to this business. Cause seriously, there are guys there looking to shoot.

MUA's - Again...network, network, network. I actually feel that you have the hardest job of booking work of all the parties involved in a shoot. And to be given an opportunity to make personal pitches to 50, 80, 100 people... That's a no brainer.

The meet & greet is designed as a chance to meet new people, swap stories with old friends and talk bad about the others while they go pee.

If you want to shoot, set it up before, after, or shoot just outside around the building or on the beach!

So I tell her, look down and get the expression on your face that ....
Oh my God, my boobs look amazing!
(Which I feel is the default look when girls look at their boobs)

Hilarity next ensued

Oh and Good luck to Chris Rifkin who has his AVI up in the Pic of the day contest

https://www.modelmayhem.com/potd_contests.php
Apparently they have 2 contests going?

Looks like one is kind of hosted off site and is a blind vote as to the submitter
I somehow got to it through the Contest forum, but I had to chase like 8 links to find it
This is the one I voted in

The other is in the General Industry thread
It's stickied to the top of the page and I don't see your entry in there

Lets help me not get shut out.
Got some amazing images Carl, and I CAN just imagine how funny that moment was with her.

In case anyone is wondering WTF I'm talking about,Ziltoid is the world's first heavy metal puppet show concept CD,produced by Devin Townsend(he did all the music, vox, ect)
Find it on MySpace, one of the best CDs to come out that year.

Getting back to shooting some weddings again, i'm shocked at how cheap people are selling their services in Tampa. $160 bucks for a full day and night event coverage? You get what you pay for I bet. Craziness.

Probably some cracker who thinks all you need is a camera from superwalmart to be swimming in the bucks. No creative eye at all Keith. Cookie cut images and over exposed. I think your safe from the competition. smile but i see this over and over, people offering budget prices.

Sad thing is, people seem to be more interested in price and not quality.. I replied to one ad to see what their budget was, looking for 11 hours so I figured it had to reasonable, slap me now and hard, they offered $500... I told them good luck.. And clearly stated they wouldn't get anyone of quality to do a pressure shoot like that for $500..

They claimed to have a number of VERY good people respond.. HA!!!

There was a guy in IL, just before digital. He'd show up at the wedding, you gave him the film and $100, he gave you back the film at the end and went on his merry way...

One thing I don't think most studios were ever good at was giving the consumer a reason to use them. Oh sure they did business, but why?

Because you were supposed to get a family portrait once every 5 years.

Because you got the kid's pictures done for their birthday.

Because a wedding photographer was important.

Because senior pictures were a right of passage.

So they just continued to raise the price on what they were already doing and made a great living.

Consumers don't care as much about quality as we do, they want record keeping. Today, they can do that about as well themselves.

And certainly a guy can and will for a ( couple of ) hundred bucks...

Unfortunately it's the WalMarting of society.. I mean, it use to be that pictures were for the elite/wealthy or for very special occasions. Now, as you said, nearly everyone can do it themselves and get decent shots. Just not really unique or special.

Kinda like flying. Use to be something really special; now, it's oh gawd I have to fly to such and such...

Studios, and the PPA ( and other such organizations ) do a terrible job of letting the consumer know the benefits of a "good" studio experience. The ave customer wouldn't know a good image if it bit them on the ass...

When I was very "organization" active we always had the question: Why aren't the organizations more like FTD? They have no problems letting the consumer know the who, what, when, where, and why of using a florist instead of picking you own ( or buying them at the gas station ) on the way home.

The photography organizations never seemed to be able to see the wisdom of that, imho...
