I'm looking to shoot a band in a modern day deserted town.  I heard about one in the Palmdale area but have no idea where it is.  Looking for something more recent than the old west look.  Thanks ahead for the suggestions!

There are some cool abandoned places out at the Salton Sea south the Palm Springs.

I recently heard that The Salton Sea is a bad idea due to cops taking people to jail for shooting.  Not fines, or confiscated equipment.....jail.  scary

Edit: oh, and as for Palmdale, I think it was in Lancaster around Ave E?  (can't remember) where I saw an abandoned church and a couple homes, but not a whole town.

Theres some cool stuff along HWY 58, near Caliente.  Kinda like Deliverance with the rednecks and white supremacists out there though.  Be careful if you go.

Salton Sea.  Only decent place close to L.A. for what you're looking for.

There is a deserted 60's/70's suburb that was used in a Mythbusters episode (gas mileage vs driving style) - I think they mentioned the location in the show but you could inquire with them.

Thanks for the replies.  Are they really that strict at the Salton Sea with throwing people in jail?

I've never heard of such a thing.  I know many, many photographers and models who have gone down there shooting without an incident.

Maybe the story had to do with vandal photographers destroying property to get the shot they wanted.  Just because it's abandoned, doesn't mean the owner wants it trashed.

Amboy used to be a great ghost town.  A mining company bought it up, but, there are still good abandoned buildings there.  Don't go in summer!

All of my pictures were shot at mentryville. Its an small, old, abandoned mining place. It cost 5 dollars for parking but they have absolutely no problem with shooting there
