So many people are breaking the market rules and taking advantage, that I thought I'd add a reminder so that everyone can post here and feel like they are getting equal treatment.  If you follow the simple rules, hopefully it will make it easier for everyone.

*  When you post your thread, you need to use a proper title such as:

- FS (For Sale)
- WTB (Want To Buy)
- WTT (Want To Trade)
- WTR (Want To Rent)
- FREE

* Don't post more than 10 items in a thread.  If you post 5 sweaters in one photo, that's 5 items, not one.

* You are allowed 3 threads total on the first 2 pages.  So, that means that at any given time, you are allowed to be selling 30 items.

* Just because your thread is not at the top of the first page doesn't mean you should bump it over and over.  You are allowed 3 bumps TOTAL.  That means if one of your friends comes along and says "nice stuff, free bump," that still counts as a bump.  There is no such thing as a "free bump."  They all count.  After 3 bumps, you need to wait until your thread gets all the way to the 3rd page before you resubmit it.  That's what's fair to everyone.

* Every item must have a price.  You can't say "PM me for pricing info."  That's a no-no.  Post your price and say that you are open to offers.

* Remember to be fair to everyone who uses the forum.  Don't sit on your computer day and night and keep bumping your threads to the top or remaking them.  Actually, if you have bumped your thread (or someone else has) a total of 3 times, it should then go through both the first and second pages before it can be redone unless it is not going to make your thread count more than 3.  Way too many people are taking advantage of MM and making it hard for everyone trying to buy or sell here.  We all want to be on the top, but we have to take our turn.

To viewCOMPLETE Market Rules, see below.  The ones I mentioned above are just the main ones that are being abused. Model Mayhem is still free to use, so let's not abuse it.  Please read over all of the rules BEFORE posting!

Requirements
- Price of item/service if it is FS
- A proper thread label (see below)

Thread labels
All threads must have one of the following labels at the beginning of the subject:
- FS (For Sale)
- WTB (Want To Buy)
- WTT (Want To Trade)
- WTR (Want To Rent)
- FREE (I think you can figure out what this means)

Web-Designers/Photo-Editors/Studio's:
For the time being we have a consolidation thread for different services that is right here: Web-Designers,  Photo-Retouchers, and there will be a Sticky for Studio's shortly. Learn it, use it, love it. BUT this is a temporary solution at best so for the time being (i.e. this is also temporary and subject to change as i see fit) Please pay attention to the bumping rule and please do not spam the board with your ads. And here is another little Detail for you, if you are going to be posting a WEB/PHOTO/STUDIO Ad you need to have posted in the consolidation thread after you post there (only need to once, but feel free to update it by editing it) you can make your own thread.

You can start posting your own threads with these new headers:

WEB: - Web-Designers
PHOTO: - Photo Retouching
STUDIO: - Studio for rent

Example:
FS: Nikon D70
WTB: Cannon Lenses
WTT: Camera Body's
WEB: Cheap sites for cheap people!
PHOTO: Rates starting at $10 a pimple.
STUDIO: 10 Whole feet of space in my mom's basement.
(And while yes the examples are a joke, please keep the MM Market clean of clutter)

Rules:
- You are using this forum at your own risk.  ModelMayhem.com takes no responsibility for ANY transactions that takes place here.  We do not have the time or manpower to investigate anything.  If something doesn't work out, it is your problem!
- No lowballing. Posting a ridiculous offer that everyone KNOWS shouldn't be offered.
- Flaming a thread starter about their prices.
- Responding with a post on where to get an item/service cheaper.
- No linking to other sites!  Informational links are OK with your description of the item, do not just post a informational link by its self.
- No buying, selling, or trading of CD-Keys, beta software or anything illegal.
- Do not bump your thread more than 3 times!  And do not bump anyone else's thread.
- You can not sell an item for friends or family, you must own the item you are selling.
- No selling of ANY software.
- No ads for photography-related or modeling-related specials
-No more then three active threads at a time (Active being on the first two pages)
-No more then 10 items in a thread

Well, you are entitled to your opinion.  But, the Mods know that I am only trying to do what is best for the forum, and abuse of the rules makes it more difficult for everyone, including the users as well as the Mods.  If they lock it, so be it, but hopefully if it reminds at least one person, then it will have helped one.

Thanks so much guys for your support in trying to clean this Market up a bit.  I realize with a free forum, there will be people who always try to abuse the system, but as long as some of us try to keep things on the "up and up," it can only help...smile

I will PM those of you who asked personal questions.  Thanks again!  big_smile

didnt realize that if someone else used the word bump that counted as 1 , i started marking mine bump 1 bump 2  so i didnt mess up .

I wish we could get this forum set in categories like studio rental, clothes, retouching
there would be a lot less page jumping and thats worth paying for.

I think i have more fun buying and trading on here than selling sometimes

Yep...the rules say "don't bump anyone elses thread either" and the total bumps are 3.  I have thought that maybe 5 bumps might be more reasonable, but after seeing people constantly bumping friends threads, I guess 3 is probably right.  This just keeps people from sitting all day long and bumping theirs and their friends threads.

I agree with you that it would be a lot more user friendly if it was somehow split up and I have expressed my concern over in Gatekeeping.  There is a plan to overhaul the forum, but how much, and when, isn't known.  I do know that they (the Mods and owners) are doing the best that they can, so that's all we can ask for...smile

I have bought quite a bit from this forum...I agree...there should be at least two separate forums...equipment related & everything else....it's frustrating looking at all of the posts that don't apply to what you need. I have suggested this several times without an answer from anyone.

A delete button so we could just delete a item or items when sold or traded and not have to edit it so it nothing shows in the add , and the old posts just take up space on the server That would clean out the clutter a bit besides for the mods delete would be better than having to lock forums all the time quicker and cleaner

Those sound like wonderul ideas.  Why don't you put together some ideas and email them to me ([email protected]) and I will present them to the proper people.  In any case, it can't hurt..smile

holy crap, it's almost like some mod somewhere got on a powertrip and tried to make something that's pretty easy as complex as they could.

10 items, really?

4 bumps?

hmm

lame.

IMO

If anything is making this hard to buy or sell it's that the market isn't broken down into catagories, this would make searching easier and/or require less bumps to keep threads relevant.

Well, actually, it's 3 bumps...smile  And, I don't think necessarily a power trip, I just think that when the forum was started, it wasn't utilized as much as it is today and some changes do need to be made now that so many use it (or WANT to use it.  It doesn't help to have a handful of people come here and abuse what very little we have in place to make it fair to everyone.  Ya know?  smile

Another suggestion....Being able to edit the subject line! That way when we accidentally forget proper title we can change it instead of some many threads being locked.

Oh an how about ONE bump a day allowed on top of the three bumps only. I get so annoyed when people bump a thread 3 times all with in a couple hours(even though it hasn't even fallen of the first two pages) because then they repost and it it takes up so much space.

I know I on;y bump once a day IF it falls off the second page.

OH and how about having the rules pop up when you go to create a new thread(like with casting calls)? Because some people just don't see the sticky tab for the rules.

3 most common reasons market threads are locked...

improper title
too many bumps
not listing price in FS threads.

Bumping an ad is where you write the word "bump" in the reply box and that brings the ad up to the top.  But, people can do anything really to "bump" it and no matter how creative you get, a bump is a bump. We are allowed 3 bumps on an ad and then we have to wait until our ad has gone all the way to the 3rd page before we can make another ad and put it back on the 1st page.  Some people ask their friends to go to their ads and bump them, thinking that if the bump doesn't come from them, it won't count as a bump.  But, it does.

you cant delete a thread. You can edit a thread(there is an edit button you can click). But you can only edit the body and not the subject/title line

MODS I really think you need to crack down on a couple people who insist on breaking the rules, even after being directed to them SEVERAL times. The market is just too cluttered

I suggest sending a CAM when you see people breaking the rules time after time.

I'm still seeing people break these rules every day.  Please take time to read them and if you don't understand them, ask.  The Mods are doing the very best they can and cheating by trying to get your thread "first" is only going to get you locked and most likely some stricter punishment coming in the future!

So question... We can only have 3 active threads so only selling 30 things...
But can we have 4 threads if three are selling and one is buying?
And how can I lock or get rid of a thread?

Make sure you put what you are selling, etc in the title of your post...

No Good = FS: Stuff
No Good = FS All items $10 bucks

Good = FS Fish Bait Favored Lollypops
Good = FS Shirts, shoes and other stuff

You will get more people looking at your thread if they know what they are clicking on.
Plus, it keeps your thread from getting locked for improper title.
