Just a random question really!

What's in your gear bag, what's your favorite glass inside, what CAN'T you live without?? Or what would you like to add to it!

Well Canon 5d, 24-70L 2.8 my favorite, 50 1.4 great lens, 2 speedlites 580EX and EX2, 2 PW for wireless shooting, 2 umbrella brackets, dust remover kit, lots of batteries and memory cards to keep me shooting all day long. I'm looking to buy the 70-200L 2.8IS and the Canon 7D but I got to shoot some people first....lol

Nikon D60, 18-55vr3.5, 55-200 3.5, 50 1.4, SB600, Lumopro flash, Cactus V2 triggers, misc gells, batteries, memory cards, snoot, and that's bag #1... bag #2 has my two shoot through umbrellas, two flash stands, and my backdrop system... nothing high end but it's portable and it works...and it all goes with me on every shoot... some times i feel more like a pack mule than a photographer...

oh yeah the 1.4 is my favorite piece of glass...i want a D300 and a 70-200 2.8 and a couple more SB600's, and the list goes on and on and on...

Yesterday I managed to fit two AB800's, my 5DMKii, XT w/grip, 3 lenses, light meter, + chargers, filters, and all my accessories/remots into my Backpack. I felt so happy, haha. and there is still room for my laptop.

Gotta love the expedition 7's. I never had anything to carry two of my lights in and they were always dusty...now they have a home smile

Billingham L2 bag (11" x 9" x6")

5Dii, 35/1.4, 85/1.8, 135/2.0. Spare CF card, spare battery, passport.

If it doesn't fit in the bag, I don't buy it.

I do cheat a bit and add a 50/1.4 for studio work.

This is the newly downsized event kit. Could be further simplified if I switched to the 430EX flash, but my radio-controlled manual flashes are cheaper and work fine.

Minolta 4000AF flash (about to be replaced with much smaller flashes), Canon body (cheapest one suitable for the project), 50mm f/1.8, 18-55 IS (I shoot with lights, so slow lenses work fine for wide group shots), modified ST-E2 (added a pocket wizard jack), radio transmitter, (2) radio receivers, umbrella bracket, 8 freshly charged AAs, extra memory cards, 33" white umbrella in a loop outside the bag, small 5-in-1 reflector, and a bunch of flash gels.

The idea here is to be able to absorb the cost of equipment failure. Since I have enough light to shoot at ISO 100 in the dark and have ST-E2 for focus assist, older bodies and cheaper lenses work just fine.

It can get pics like this...

For product and concept model shoots I add more flashes, light stands, umbrellas, polarizing film, circular polarizer, a small roll of 24" wide white plastic (makes nice on-location seamless for products), sheets of black construction paper, Sekonic L-718 meter, and my 100mm f/2.8 macro.

Wishlist? I used to want fast glass, but now I don't really need it anymore. My 100mm handles portraiture nicely, so I don't really need the always useful 70-200. I can probably make interesting images with the Cyber Commander + White Lightning lights.

My still camera bag is a Tamrac. While not shaped like a back-pack, it has back-pack straps and can be worn as such. It's fairly good-sized as soft bags go.

Inside it, I keep the following:

Canon 5D body
Canon 20D body (backup)
Manuals for both cameras
Canon 17-40 f/4 L
Canon 70-200 f/4 L
Tamron AF 28-75 f/2.8
Minolta Light Meter
Canon 580EX Speedlites (2)
Pocket Wizard FlexTT5
Pocket Wizard Plus II Transceivers (2)
Canon Battery Chargers (2)
Canon Batteries (6)
AA Batteries
Hoodman HoodLoupe
SanDisk 2g & 4g CF cards, about 16g total
Card Reader
Lens Cleaning supplies, cables, connectors, other stuff

Inside the back of my SUV there's plenty of lighting and grip, too much in fact.

I'm not a strobist, and don't exactly travel light.

When shooting on location, I usually bring around 80 kilograms of gear ( = appx 150 lbs )

The heavy stuff (AutoPoles, stands, cables, MagicArms, Clamps, etc)
is picked up by TNT a day or two before I leave,
and send via Global Express to my destination.

The sensitive stuff (camera, lenses, laptop, lamps) I carry with me,
and I usually whish I had an extra arm !

https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2562/4093160648_9b6a910ce0_o.jpg

- all in the name or Art ;-)

Favorite glass: Canon EF 28-80 f/2,8-4 (L) USM

Can't live without: Victorinox Swiss Army Knife,
and cable-release + 5 meter extension.

Would like: a mobilehome for location jobs - Winnebago, etc...
AND a speaking flash-meter :-0

Tip: I've had our local plummer shorten my AutoPoles by approximately ten centimeters
( about four inches ). This makes them fit into a standard skibag. Manfrotto STILL hasn't come up with a better solution for carrying AutoPoles around the world wink

canon 5D body, and I can't live without my 50mm... though I usually travel with that and my 28-135mm because I have a nifty polarizing filter for it that doesn't fit my other lenses.

but lately my real shooting luxary has been a helper to carry my tripod and watch my back wink

edit: as for adding, I want a proper macro lens and a big ol' silver/white/gold combo reflector.

I wouldn't say it's an 'all-rounder'.. If you want a good 'all-rounder' lens, (to me) I'd go with an 18-200 for wide and zoom. But I would rather go with 24-70 2.8 hehe. Unfortunately I haven't used the 70-200 on any models yet, only concert for now hehe. But it does well for my needs in low light, as the AF speed is fast.

Well since the majority of my modeling photography has moved from location to studio I changed out the gear I carry to be geared more towards indoors sports. Here's what I carry when I shoot indoor sports (basketball, wrestling, swimming, etc).

Camera Bag:
Think Tank Speed Racer
Nikon D300
Nikon 80-200 f2.8
Sigma 28-70 f2.8

2x Pocket Wizards (for remote camera - not pictured)
2x Quantum Turbo battery packs / cables
3x super clamps

Everything fits great into the tool box and fully loaded it weighs under 30lbs. Overall its not too cumbersome to carry around and when the tool box is closed it makes a great seat. I can also get set up (and tear down) in under 10 minutes, which is really nice.

I also always carry three bags in my car. One has my Elinchrom DLite-4 studio strobes in it. The second is my alien bees vagabond and extension cords. The last is a backup camera bag...

Tamrac Expedition 5
Nikon D80
Nikon D70
Nikon 18-70 f3.5-4.5
Nikon 70-300 f4.5-5.6
Spare batteries
