Quadrophenia meant a lot to me as a troubled teenager. (Is troubled teenager redundant?).

I have to say the whole album.

But to pick one, it is "Cut My Hair", for the angst.

I confess that I still get angry for my own selfish reasons that Keith Moon killed himself. And John Entwistle did pretty much the same.

A bit odd that the surviving members of the Who and the Beatles would fit, instrument wise.

My Generation.

I heard that the two Who are left will be playing at the Super Bowl. I would hardly call them the Who. It's been a long long time from that helicopter day back in '69.

Love, reign o'er me...

Music was so great when it was written by real people, played on real instruments in front of real people.

and that the current drummer for the Who is the son of the beatles drummer.  Actually that makes sense ... doesn't it?

There are many Who songs I love, but Wont Get Fooled Again is my favorite.  I've seen them a few times, but after Moonie died.

You're lucky... I never attended any of their concerts. I grew up in North Dakota. We don't have an LA Colosseum, Madison Square Garden, etc...

You know what I find kind of 'haunting' to me? On the cover of WHO ARE YOU, Keith Moon sits in a chair that says "Not to be taken away"... Lp release Aug 1978, Moon's death Sept 1978.

NOT a fan of The Who at all.  I think they're cheesy as hell and I can't believe people rate them up with Pink Floyd and company.  Nuts!

I know lots will disagree though. smile

I paid something close to $10 or 12 for tickets to see the Who for my first time back in 1980 ... it was the same tour where just a couple short months before, some 13 kids were killed tragically in Cincinnati when waiting to see them.   Those were the days!

THIS!  However is the very best I've ever heard them play for the brave heroes who were lost in 9/11 ... Concert For New York!  I wasn't in New York, but my brother and I were standing the whole time during this with our mouths open in amazement!  They blew everyone the fuck away that night!  Later, I heard from a buddy whose brother was a sound guy near the side of the stage on Pets's side ... he said it was the most intense and surreal thing ... Pete was intent on giving the performance of his life for those who gave theirs.  I believe he did just that!  For real!

It's ok.  I'm a fan of Pink Floyd too.  Some people could say that the Beatles were cheesy ... but I love 'em all!  wink

I am not a fan of the really early Beatles stuff but I have no idea how someone could say all the Beatles music was cheesy.

Esp not Lennon.

Well I don't think the Beatles or the Who are cheesy, but there are some people I'm sure ... that don't have the same opinion as others.  There are some bands that are obviously cheesy, and I even like a few of them  Boston, Styx, and KISS come to mind ...

^^ that ^^

I saw The Who on the Tommy tour in Minneapolis Minnesota. They were in their "we are now serious and no longer smash our guitars" phase and played the entire album straight through.

I was 14, it was pretty amazing.

Won't Get Fooled Again was after Tommy but still one of their best. Very timely, eternally timely.

x2 i never understood how people liked tommy more than quadrophenia. i mean, after the whole chicken before the egg thing, it's not even a contest, imho.

having said that, i really don't like a whole lot of who, other than quadrophenia. so maybe:
sea and sand
doctor jimmy
i've had enough

the three or four main musical themes of that album are very well done. definitely pete's best work.
