I have been using Pink Soap (from the art supply store) to wash my brushes....but after reading some threads, I'm wondering if this is a good idea, and worry about my clients and the longevety of my brushes.  Does anyone know if this is hazardous?   Alternatives to baby shampoo, which is not really that gentle on the bristles.

since pink soap is designed to remove more harsher chemicals its probably not your best bet, I use regular human shampoo.. Dove to be exact, Baby shampoos i find strip the brushes too much . I also use regular conditioner to keep my brushes soft and new like...

I also use regular shampoo on my brushes + conditioner about once a week. Conditioning too much I find changes how the brushes pick up product.

On my synthetic brushes that I used for liquid or cream products I will use dish soap if the regular shampoo can't get the product out, which does happen from time to time. But dish soap and a really good rinse takes it right out.

I second the shampoo! Silly Farm used to carry "pink soap" and I wondered if it was the same thing since they have a habit of carrying normal (marked-up) craft supplies.

Edit: According to google pink soap is non-toxic.

I've used the pink soap as a first step to my cleaning for a couple of years now when I'm out of Cinema Secrets.  No skin problems to report, and my brushes are in good condition.  When I clean with pink soap, I do that first, then dip in alcohol, then rinse with an antibacterial soap.  I wouldn't do just the pink soap because as far as I know, it just removes pigment and oils and does not disinfect.
