I didn't want to go the hyper-detailed route (so tempting on a face like that), so I just tried to follow the natural contours of the composition to draw the viewer's eyes to his. Almost accentuating the photographer over the subject. No magic here, just lots of layers, blend modes, masking, curves, some highlight/shadow, some gradient mapping... just old fashioned "I'll know it when I see it".  Okay, I also softened one shadow on his right cheek, and that one horizontal hair on his forehead made me a little crazy; too comical for such a serious image. Ditto the eyelash.
