Just wondering in case one gives a model an eye infection or a lot worse.

They should and if they are working in your studio you may want to ask to see a copy of it.... If someone does get hurt the injured parties lawyer will come after YOU if the artist doesn't have insurance.    I have seen a lot of accidents happen.... none by me thank God... Curling iron accidents are common...eye infections are not that uncommon... the reason?  you have hobbyists doing makeup for "kit fees" or free.... these people don't always understand the saftey aspects of this job and they can not afford to pay for liability insurance because they arent making money.

Bottom line.... If you are working with a pro he or she should have insurance and you will have to expect this type to charge a decent day rate, thats how they pay for their insurance.  You can't have someone working free or for almost nothing and expect them to carry liability insurance.... Mine is now $100.00 a month but it's over a million and includes a lot of extras stuff... You can get minimum liability for around $600.00 a year...but again, someone working TF isn't going to spend this kind of money.

Of all the artists I work with in SD I would say 25% have it because these are the established working artists that own homes and property.... we don't want to lose everything we own because a curling iron mishap disfigured a high priced beauty model (yes this has happened)  The newer artists that are testing and not working much, they don't normally even know they need it.

USAA (and they contract  through The Hartford)  The Hartford is GREAT!  I have not had to use it yet but they are real clear about coverage and loss and  the prices are good.

on another note... I have seen MANY times an artist ruin someones floor or table with heat products, spilling on carpet etc...  These are things my liability insurance cover as well as hurting someone personally
