Ok, I came across an opinion that people who eat indian curry smells horrible. Exactly what is that smell? Have you noticed a smell emitting from Indians who eat it? I've heard it a few times but I don't recall ever thinking, "Damn, that indian smells!"

And curry itself doesn't smell bad at all. Or is Indian curry a very specific type of curry?

There are certain things that make you smell when they come out of your pores. It's not just Indian spices.

Garlic does that, I don't know about curry. I tried curry once and found it not to my liking.

I LOVE curry.  Indian OR Thai.  I also take garlic gel tabs.  No one has ever complained to me about having any sort of stench afterward.

People are either being way too polite, or I just don't smell like curry or garlic.

Curry is almost a national dish here and folks who eat it, certainly do not smell of it.

If someone made that comment in my presence, I'd be offended, as personally I feel it smacks of carrying racist overtones.

I do not like curry that much. I mean, its not horrible. I'll eat it. But it is far from a favorite spice of mine.

And yes, I have noticed when I'm out and about that every once in a while I will run into a family from India and they smell very strongly of curry to me. Actually, this happens a lot.  I don't think its a good smell at all.

BUT, with that being said, I have a very sensitive nose and strong sense of smell. So its possible that I'm noticing smells or noticing them more strongly than others are.

You should ride on public transport over here where every 2nd or 3rd person is an indian and they smell....... I always thought that it is because they don't wash.

And I was born there but don't eat curry and have no funny smell.

curry, garlic, nicotine, bourbon, oregano...

Daily showers takes care of this.

I once worked for Estee Lauder as a young buck in one of her parfume filling stations (came in by the 55 gallon drum) and man, how I was surrounded by woman? Just because my boots smelled!

It totally does leave an odor that lingers in the air.  My ex lived in an apt building where like ten Indian families lived in three apts and as soon as you walked in the smell just smacked you in the face.

But it's a good smell so I didn't mind.  Chris likes spicy food.

Saying someone smells like a spice is racist?

The Super8 I used to stay at in a certain town for my old job had an Indian owner and they lived on the premises.  The wing that they lived in always smelled of curry because of the foods they ate.  He himself smelled like Curry when he was behind the counter.  He was one of the nicest men I've ever met and I considered him a friend.  His family was delightful.  Race was a non-issue.

But the dude smelled like Curry.

When I was a little kid, I was in the hospital for a couple of weeks once. There was one doctor, whom I really liked; he was Indian and smelled like spicy stuff. I didn't know what it was at that time, but I thought it smelled comforting. I still love that curry smell on people's skin; LOVE it.

So, yeah, people sometimes smell like the foods they eat - but, at least in regards to spicy foods, I think they smell nice.

I can't stand curry. My wife loves it. Like garlic, the odor remains long after the meal has been finished.

You would die if you had to live with me, for any length of time.

I eat (at least) half a head of garlic everyday, plus take concentrated garlic supplements.

As you should.  I wish more people were as educated on the tremendous health benefits of garlic.  Medicinally speaking, it far better than eating an apple a day.  Also, you'll never have to worry about vampires.

My dad use to eat a lot of garlic and takes supplements. The smell was overwhelming and unbearable. No one deserves to have to wake up to that smell. Mom told him to make a choice. He chose wisely.

I haven't been sick in over a year. I used to have colds constantly; as soon as I would get rid of one, I would get another one. I have been taking high doses of garlic with high doses of green tea extract, and I have not been sick once --- not once. That is an absolute anomaly for me; I'm generally stuffy and sick all year long, and have been that way since I was about 7 years old.

I work in a strip club twice per week, so I'm in close contact with people. No one has ever complained, and I have asked regular customers about it. The general consensus is that they do not smell it on me, though I was told that sometimes I smell like ... curry... yeah, curry...

Yeah, the smell of curry is way better than the smell of people that eat a lot of red meat. Ew. I like curry.

I love garlic... I eat it raw on salads on pretty much every night and I stink of garlic.

But curry? They don't smell offensive to me but some thought it was horrible. I am thinking maybe it's curry reacting with natural body odor that makes it smell so bad?

Honestly, I think I'd prefer that smell to the standard issue mixture of talcum powder and lotion (or whatever it is that they all smell like) that seems to permeate their employees.

The only perfumes I like are essential oil blends with really earthy smells; I mix them myself. Stuff like sandalwood and sage, or vanilla with cloves. A lot of the body sprays that other dancers use smell like pure alcohol to me, and even if they haven't been drinking, I think those cheap body products make people smell like liquor.

It smells like spicy B.O. to me.  Highly unpleasant.  I've never eaten curry, though.  It must be good if you're willing to walk around smelling that bad.
