I'm having a hard time containing myself on this one. Been working on it for a couple of weeks now.... https://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w402/GMAX_Imagery/splits.jpg

So joining Bumble and I at the Ocean View Balcony suite aka Maxi's Pad is none other than the amazingly talented Trina Merry mm# 1694588. You may have seen here work in Sports Illustrated or Rolling Stone Magazine. Here is just a sampling of some of her work.

She is available for hire during the cruise. As she is in very high demand Please Do Not try to contact her directly for bookings. Part of our agreement is that I am to handle those for her.She has agreed to provide us deep discounted pricing (my group is accepting drinks at the bar for doing  this) and will be doing at least one creation on a model for the group.I wonder who that might Beeee. smile. The other is TBD. She also will be conducting training classes for all levels of body painters.
Also for all who pay for the booking by the 21st will be entered into a very cool contest. Details upcoming on this and more.
PM me with your e-mail address for rates and booking schedule. I will reply in the order of the PM's received.

By the time we get off this ship they are going to have to rename it from Splendor to SPECTACULAR!!! borat

Muy IMPRESSIVE! :-)
[BTW, who on this cruise is conversationally competent in the local language of our ports of call?]

Called Canon about sponsorship for this spectacular event and they told me about a program called Explorers of Light.
http://www.learn.usa.canon.com/explorer … home.shtml
It's a we'll-call-you,-don't-call-us kind of deal!

Under Canon's sponsorship, I've heard both Jack Reznicki and Jim Divitale at camera club meetings (Orlando and Chattanooga, respectively and in that order). So I called Jim (left message), but was able to get Jack on the line. Our crowd isn't a large enough audience to warrant Canon allocating one of their personnel. FMV? $7K! [Fair Market Value to have someone of their caliber come and educate us is estimated at US$5K + expenses. Pass.]

Now, let me check into renaming rights for the ship :-)

Gary, your turn! Going cyanotic :-)
[Turning blue holding my breathe in eager anticipation of what Gary's got to announce.]

[Note to reader: this is not particularly light reading to most. It's a bit convoluted to say the least. It explains an apparent non sequitar with logical references and infrastructural underpinnings.]

Sargeant Bee, our leader Gary, et al:

My apologies for the apparent non sequitar [Latin for it doesn't follow.]

I'm likely to dig myself deeper in the hole trying to explain but let me try valiantly! [Dick Bachelor, former Florida House of Representatives member, is fond of reminding the radio listening audience when he's on the air in Orlando, Florida on WMFE "If you have to explain--you're already in trouble!" (I reference him because a couple of the cruisers are from that area and may listen to him or know him).]

Previously on this thread we have had the prime directive: "Get great images and post to make others jealous," followed by, "But be safe and don't get into trouble in a foreign country." [paraphrased from Gary's marching orders.] I've sustained attacks in Hong Kong and knowing a little of the language (Cantonese) has been helpful to divining the enemies mal intentions and taking proactive measures to triage what to save, mitigate my losses, appeal to authorities, reposition myself by jumping out the window, etc.

Therefore, the one-sentence question about "who is competent in conversational Spanish?" is an attempt to poll and inventory for language skills which allow us as a unit to gather intel in the field and do IFF [Identify Friend or Foe]. [I recognize that's not your stated primary objection but I thought I would take these paragraph to explain that sentence. I sense I'm in MORE trouble than before, but let me keep digging! :-)].

In my draft I had the line "Now, let me check into renaming rights for the ship :-)" immediately follow the "Muy IMPRESSIVE!" [fully recognizing that I've drifted into Spanglish but without so saying]. It seemed too parsimonious (too concise). Furthermore, the reader who doesn't know the writer's operational capacity is likely to discount the reference to renaming a ship as merely a joke.
Therefore, in order to establish my bona fides as someone who really does follow up on interesting ideas, even if they may be grandiose, I inserted the research findings about sponsorship.

Previously on this thread it has been suggested that we get Nikon AND Canon sponsorship. Since I have looked at that informally and found that to be out of my reach, I thought I'd re-examine this BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) but more formally. I reported my findings concisely so someone doesn't have to do that recon of the lay of the land again. If they want details I can brief them privately.

To summarize, my research on sponsorship indicates that I do research ideas and that I actually will do some investigation on how to rename the ship. I do recognize that the idea of renaming is merely suggested in jest...but it does lead to some interesting understanding of exactly how the process of naming or renaming a $700 million high-profile ship is done. (The gentleman I called at Carnival was relatively clueless. I've made formal submission to name FedEx aircraft so this process is not totally new to me. FedEx employees are allowed to submit the names of their children for consideration. Obviously, Carnival uses a different protocol and procedure.)

Every communication risks miscommunication. I gambled and lost the first time. So I'm doing another communication and it may make things better...or worser [sic] :-)

[Let me explain my explanation: "sic" is Latin that means that what may look like an error is intentional. It does NOT mean "sick". (When I have to explain my explanation, I know I'm in deep weeds! :-) I know that "worser" is not grammatically correct but I choose to use it nevertheless I don't want the reader to think it's out of ignorance or that it's a typo].

Deep background: my father told me when I was in the single digits (may be 8 or 9) that I'm cursed with curiosity. I am...and I love to share what I learn.

Bee: my reference to "previously on this thread" is not intended to imply that you are uninformed or not keeping up on happenings. It is merely to help you connect the dots that I see. You possess skills and abilities that are far beyond me. [Hence I put you on a pedestal!] You know that I very greatly admire your role and magnificent accomplishments. [Anyone who doesn't is an idiot IMHO]. And respectfully submit this explanation for my previous intel report with goodwill and in good faith.

Sarge: [I don't know how you salute in e-mail, but add that].

Sarge Bee: have I gained or lost ground? Have I acquitted/exonerated myself or what punishment do you mete out?  Previously on this thread...I've seen some punishments that look pretty appealing :-) LOL.

[I was going to let the allusion stand alone but let me be more explicit (without being too graphic) to remind or refresh the reader. I reference threatened punishment by our leader for wasteful  images of running a gauntlet of multiple openings and physical contact of an allegedly painful nature! WOW]

WOW, oh yeah, WOW!!

So I am now fully distracted, and work will suffer since all I will be thinking about day and night is 9/2.  Thanks Glen for this excellent addition to an already out of this world event.

The only thing left that would make this perfect is free ice cream...

Now if I could only figure out a way to get around the 5 state ban imposed on me prohibiting me from finger painting models...

In all seriousness, I was having a discussion with another photographer who will be going on this cruise about attending a body painting convention next year.  Christmas comes early.

Well Done!

Aaahh! Trina Merry is actually the reason I started petitioning so hard to go on this cruise. I work with her a lot up here in the bay area. I was dyyyying to say something too. Trina is just a million times of incredible. I did the RAW event with her in San Jose last week, and she did a Gustav Klimt inspired piece on me. It was 8 hours of intensive painting, and it was so much fun.

Someone please sponsor me, pretty please? It will make Trina a very happy camper smile

Ira, ain't nerdy at all to have a countdown timer so we don't have anyone miss the boat because they didn't know when we are launching--less than 4 weeks now!

You'll find most all of them (the grandmas) either flirting with the captain at the 'captains dinner'... roll... playing BINGO or (the kids) frolicking in the kiddy pool or 'motal combating' in the video gameroom... lol

Does anyone know the optimal time to be at the terminal?
It says embarkation at 1:30. Does that mean we can't board until 1:30?

I read something that check-in needs to be done 90min prior to 1:30, which is 1200. I think the online check-in fulfills that.

I'm still deciding whether to stay overnight in Long Beach or drive down on Sunday morning.

Checklists do not obviate the need for thinking of the specifics of your trip, eccentricities and idiosyncracies.

No liability is assumed by your use of the information provided in this post or omitted.

Thank you Trina for your kind words! When We met, you were such a "real" person, (such a rare gem) I am so grateful for all your time, To Glen for making this happen. Glen I know this is taking a ton of upfront time to plan, from you, for us all. We will make you proud! What a dream this team will be for me. I am very excited to meet all the models and photographers who have put so much into getting on board!

Yes, anyone with cruise experience please share your checklist and advice.

1) What is best strategy to minimize waiting in line at embarkation?
2) Best way to deal with muster station calls. I read it's better to be tardy so you don't get jammed into a small space.
3) Should I put camera in carry-on or checked bag? Of course most of the accessories and lenses will be in checked bag.
4) Is there lunch provided on embarkation day?
5) Do they have the shows and bands during the daytime?
6) Can I use dollars at ports or do I need to convert to pesos? I would try to use AMEX first.
7) Can I wear socks with sandals and a speedo?

Answers...

1.  Get there at least 4 hours before departure time.
2.  Muster station calls are a goatfuck regardless of what time you get there... ya just gotta deal with it... they don't last long.
3.  Make ALL of your baggage 'carry-on'.  Rolling suitcases are best.
4.  No lunch provided on embarkation... so whoof something down before you get in line.
5.  Most all shows I know of are in the evening... but you're gonna be too busy shooting one on ones to worry about shows anyway.
6.  Both Cabo and PV stores except American dollars as currency.
7.  Socks and sandles are OK... seriously PASS on the Speedos... lol

The number 7 was a test. You got the Speedo correct but failed the socks with sandals.
The departure time is 4:30 so I'll get there before 12:30.

1) What is best strategy to minimize waiting in line at embarkation? Don't get there at the start. About an hour after they open is usually best
2) Best way to deal with muster station calls. I read it's better to be tardy so you don't get jammed into a small space. They are required, if you don't go they will escort you off the ship.  Get here about 10 minutes after they start, but if you are the last ones and other people are waiting because your late, well you've been the one waiting
3) Should I put camera in carry-on or checked bag? Of course most of the accessories and lenses will be in checked bag.  I wouldnt put any cameras or lenses in checked luggage if you can avoid it.  Though art Wolfe says to just wrap your lenses in clothes
4) Is there lunch provided on embarkation day? There is food available nonstop from the moment you board until the end of breakfast the last day.  24 hour pizza, buffet wil be open at the minimum once you get on board
5) Do they have the shows and bands during the daytime? They have bands all over the ship all day, shows are at night, movies all day too
6) Can I use dollars at ports or do I need to convert to pesos? I would try to use AMEX first. Dollars are the currency of choice
7) Can I wear socks with sandals and a speedo?

socks?

Snorkeling at Cabo-
The two options provided through Carnival are:
1) Sail and Snorkel $50, lasts 2 hours, includes drinks
2) Sea of Cortez $70, lasts 3.5 hours

It will probably be over 90 degrees and I'll want to get in the water.

Hey Bob... hate to tellya this amigo... but neither one of those snorkel gigs are on the cruiseboat photoshoot agenda.  Buy the time this ship sets sail... there's gonna be over 30 models vying for your attention and camera skills.  We have 2 very short shooting days planned in Cabo (only 6 hours each day).  With that many models in that short of time... you ARE NOT gonna get the time for any underwater partying.  Send me a personal message if you have issues with those plans... but that's pretty much how the cookie is gonna crumble... wink
