I was just looking at some pics of some incredible body painted models...and it made me wonder if there have been any models here who have tried visiting the beach (or maybe a public pool) wearing nothing but a painted on swimsuit?

If you have (or maybe know of someone who has), tell us the story of how it went.

It would probably go poorly unless you didn't get hot and start sweating, didn't move around a lot and of course, didn't go anywhere near the water.

Come on.

Well, I guess what I'm thinking about is how really good body painting can look so realistic - so I'm wondering if any models here have tried just doing a "walk-through" of sorts to see if anyone really noticed...(e.g.: like taking a short walk through a beach area).

Considering recent threads about models getting arrested doing what we photographers want, maybe you should hire a really kick ass painter to paint YOU, then YOU can do the walk through and if you get arrested YOU can rethink the idea so it goes better next time for the model.

Be sure to post pics so we can see how "realistic" it looks ;-)

I wasn't suggesting that anyone do it, I was merely asking if someone had.

Even if it's considered clothing, I'm not going to the beach with fucking painted-on boardshorts

even bodypaint models often wear a thong or something... so how about not covering yourself completely in paint and just wear a thong bikini bottom to the beach big_smile

No kidding Einstein.  Could it be because no matter how much paint you put on, you'r still gonna have some boys hanging around to ruin the illusion.

The water is not that cold. lol *snicker*

eta: besides, paint isn't like some materials when it gets wet, there is no shrinkage.

I think this could be a fun idea.  And if the ocean water can wash it off, even more fun as you shoot a fading, dripping, (melting?) bikini away.

I take it you've never shot body paint?

On dry land it starts to crack and peel at your joints if you start moving too much.

MAYBE if if you did a full body paint job, and sent her into the water and shot really fast, you'd get a cool drip job. A bikini? It'd be gone before you got one snap off.

That might be interesting as a set up editorial shot...with 2-4 people in actual bathing suits standing around her in the shot watching the suit drip away while the model stands there looking all embarrassed (or not).  Maybe with kind of a tongue-in-cheek Norman Rockwell look to it.

If I did another body paint swimsuit, I'd probably ask Chris Rifkin to shoot it for me! I did paint cutoff blue jean shorts & a top on a model at a con here in 2010; she left the hotel & walked 2 blocks to the store for some beer in it & never got a question.

Make sure to use environmentally friendly paint!

I've painted models for parties before and had people walk right by without realizing that there was a nude woman in the room.

That being said... I would be VERY careful about local laws and law enforcement. Some places are pretty lax, but others might decide that everyone involved gets to be a registered sex offender.

Best bet I think would be to book a spot at one of those naturist places, or a Hedonism type resort and do your shoot there... no worries.

I can totally see that happening.  I can imagine that many people - if they're not "studying" the person walking by (especially if they were 20 feet or more away from them) - wouldn't really notice that it was just body paint.

I have tried the painted on latex bikini with different degrees of success.  Here is the first time I tried it, a string forming the outline and filled in with four layers of paint-on latex.  I did not do the string right so the upper part is coming apart.

Here is a later improvement, photographed in the studio as the weather turned bad.  This is a single layer of latex.

I recently took another model to a beach, wearing a very brief, painted-on latex bikini but even though it was a 70 degree day she was shivering and did not want to pose in the water.  Also we took so long to apply the bikini that the sun had shifted to a bad position.  I have not posted those.

It may depend on the formulation that you use.  I shot a body paint bikini recently and it took several minutes to dissolve when we were done with it and it would have taken even longer had the model not given it some assistance with her hands.

There is plenty of time to catch the action, but it is more of a progressive smearing rather than a dripping or melting effect.
