What would you think/do if someone made a facebook page with your photos/work/brand?

Someone made a facebook page with my photos/brand, and I just saw it today:

Has a lot of the older photos, but i guess it's fun.

At least they wished everyone a happy thanksgiving & happy holidays. smile  and they salute veterans--that's cool. smile

What would you think/do if someone made a facebook page with your photos/work/brand?

Maybe i should thank/hire them?  What would you do?

I'd simply report them to facebook for copyright/trademark violation, who knows what they're doing with the women or clients who are contacted thinking that they are you?

& here's one of my images being used on a commercial website:

one of my social media followers notified me that one of my photos was being used on a commercial photography business website:

it's the model wearing one of our 45surf ballcaps & i took the photo. 

needless to say, nobody asked for permission.

what would you do?

For starters, send them a note stating that they are stealing your work that you own and ask them to promptly remove the images.

Second, if this does not work, report them to Facebook and note that they are stealing other peoples work too.

Yes it might just be Facebook technically, but who knows what they are doing with your images otherwise. It is also still publishing against a copyright on the work regardless of the forum. I had a reputable university that stole some of my work at one point. It turned out that after I sent them a bill that they actually paid me, but if you don't stand up for your work no one else will and these people will think that they can steal from any photographer out there to make their page or whatever.

I wouldn't hesitate to report them to facebook. Those images are yours, and like some others have said above.. What ELSE are they doing to those photos?

Sounds like some people need to get a life.

He writes, with apparently no sense of irony nor shame:

One of the nicest things about posting sexy women is that there are endless supplies of companies out there that sell their products by use of advertising said product with attractive females.

Clothing companies are a no brainer and thankfully I ran across a company called 45surf. They seem to be a combo of both clothing and photography.  More importantly there are attractive amateur girls who pose on rocks and surf and what not.

Forget my explanation.  Pictures after the jump….

What are people thinking these days?  Is there no respect for copyrights and property rights?

I was once on a panel with Mary Beth Peters--the US Register of Copyrights.  I quoted the Constitution: "Article I, Section 8, Clause 8 of the United States Constitution, known as the Copyright Clause, empowers the United States Congress: To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries."

you know its really simple to deal with infringement on FB. they have a web page. you fill it in and SEND.

Just let FB know that you are the copyright holder and want the images taken down.  They will be gone in minutes.

First I'd send them a polite note. Might suggest that they link content from your Facebook page rather than post it (use the Share button). Nice way to drive traffic to your page.

And if that doesn't work? Facebook is very responsive to the "Is this your Intellectual Property?" link.

are you sure you're not just spamming the photography forum? with your own facebook page?

how will we know for sure? was the link necessarily?

if the page isn't legit and you contacted facebook, i'm surprised the page is still active.

I didn't look over everything, but it says "Community Page about 45surf." Doesn't that mean 'fan page.' I would just contact them and ask to remove it if you don't like it or to make it more clear that it's a fan page if you don't mind it.

I would take screen shots of the pages. Then send them an invoice. If it became an issue I let the lawyers politely explain it to them.

You know, that's what I was kind of thinking too.  They seem to be a fan, and we probably shouldn't come down too hard on our fans for sharing our work which they like/enjoy with others.  Of course, it would be nice for them to add a bit more about who they are, and how it is a fan site, like you said.  I'll probably compose a message stating thusly and send it them.  Thanks for the advice!

The other two infringements above bother me more--especially the photography business which has one of my photos on their front page.  WTF?
