Anyone else getting a big "meh" ?

Not really much of an improvement (from what I can gather) from the normal mini, aside from the awesome stand grip. Sure 2 seconds vs 3 for 640ws is nice, but it doesn't last longer (though it's much larger 6 vs 3.5lbs)

But $400 vs $260?

I've had no complaints with my Vagabond Mini and can't really see a need to upgrade.  I did think it was interesting that all the Vagabonds and batteries incur an additional 62.50 fee in addition to shipping if you have them shipped through an air method (next day air for example)

Must need to move product? I didn't have any problem using the original version, the mini is AWESOME, I've never needed to switch out the battery ( I own two ), seems like much ado about nothing?

Decently cheaper to buy a regular mini + extra battery.

Not sure I see the benefit of the new one at it's high price.  Plus, as mentioned, the new one is heavier.

I'm hoping a lot of people buy the new one and then sell their old ones for cheap.

I know there are some people out there who want 4 sec instead of 7 for 1,320ws, and that can hit 2400ws from a battery...

But I'll stick with the normal mini... I'll even spend more money for it if it had the extreme's light stand bracket! That's all we want!

Yeah I'm happy with the regular mini for now. I just use it for small 1 or 2 light setups on location. (Plus it's black.)

Would like to get an extra battery though.

Oh and it powered my laptop for about 3 hours smile

Doesn't do anything for me.  I've been thinking about picking up another Mini, that sure didn't make me want to get the Extreme instead.  Big, heavy, expensive, and Frugly.

I can see the benefit of faster recycle time.  I can't also see how the bad could outweigh the good.  I think it's a great product but it isn't for everyone.

The Vagabond-mini is a very nice unit for the price.  I get about 400 pops with one head plugged in.  Liked it so much I bought two and attach them to each stand on location.

The bracket is the weak point in the unit and can crack the case if not careful.  The Extreme has a better battery for longevity, but don't know if it is worth the extra cost.  Could be nice if you are away from an outlet for a while.

Too bad they didn't provide a better radiated/vented heat sink and ditched the power-sucking internal fan too.

Wish Buff would come up with a self-contained Einstein head with the mini-battery in it like the Prophoto B1 and work on AC both.  Oh well...

Getting more of a "blagghhh" !

I don't like the color, or the added mass.  I don't shoot so fast that shaving a second off the recycle time matters.  I'd chucked the supplied stand grips in favor of Super-Clamps, but most of the time I just hang the unit off a stand with the strap.  I'm keeping both my Mini's, but am glad Paul is still innovating and trying to improve an item that has no direct competition (given it's price point & features).

I love my Mini, but hate that bracket. It's gotten to the point that I don't even use the bracket. I just hang the Mini from the strap hooked over a stand handle.

I guess he was swamped with angry letters from original Vagabond users complaining about the lack of bulk and weight in the mini lithium vagabond?

because people will buy anything that's new, whether its an improvement or not.
(phones, cars, coffee makers, cameras, candy bars, etc etc etc)

if your Einstein/ beauty dish fell over in a small breeze
the vagabond didn't weigh enough
how expensive was that ....

the parabolic umbrella was not an improvement
it was de-evolution
an umbrella that makes its own hot spot, seriously ....
and it sold thousands....
but hey, how do you update a 70 year old design
that wasn't broke

cameras that have 57 focus points !!! oh my
why do I want the camera deciding what's in focus ?

it's 2nd generation lithium
expect hundreds of new batteries out this year/ phones, flashlites, cameras, etc etc

portable juice Mini's are to die for essential equiptment
when the sun is going down, and I need to run the modeling lamps
for the days last pix ...
priceless

what pcb really needs to improve
is a failsafe way of attaching their receiver to an alien bee

Not sure what to make of that -^

Anyways, with all of the uses for a lithium to AC power outside of photography I'm surprised there's not more on the market.  I'm aware of the costs of lithium metal and realize just a modeling light drains them quickly, but I still think there will be more of these coming and at a lower price point.

Damn they're handy for strobes.
