UPDATED - PLEASE READ BEFORE REPLYING

This started off as a "help me pick between the color and black and white version of this" post but now that I am done retouching things I just need help picking the best image from the shoot.  Just pick the one that you like the best, regardless of it being in color or not.  Simple as that.  Thanks!  I would have done another post about it but why bother.  Let's recycle!

Oh yeah, and if you HATE them all, tell me why! :-)

I'm gonna say color but it's a really close call. If it didn't have the flag I would probably like the BW one better but I like seeing the colors, just really classic Americana type thing.  Great shot by the way smile

I personally think the color image works the best... for two reasons.

1.  The red, white and blue American Flag needs it's colors to make an impact.
2.  The contrast range you've select for the B&W image is alittle too contrasty for my liking... no details in the blue pants or blue areas of the flag.

Yeah I think color is the obvious winner.  I just wanted to make sure.  You guys are right, a flag needs color, at least when it's in a shot like this one.  Thanks!

Like to see just the skin in color,, as if the flag needs new life to carry it forward or it will just be a thing from the past and I hate cross coloring but I would like to see it here, just a thought, makes a statement. For the models port, the statement or color but not the cross color.

First vote for the black and white. The contrast is great.

But just one (very) worthless opinion.   smile

I do like it, makes a statement for hope,, for the model this statement or color, I dont think the stylizing is good for BW, just my opinion.

Do you like this one more or the full color version?

I don't think I could pick one over the other.  Just don't display them both in the same place?

Like I said I HATE cross color, but there is always the exception to the rule here for me this is the exception,, ya, says it is strong message of hope... This is the best version. Now I can't say I hate cross color anymore.

Yeah, I was asking because I want to put one of them on my facebook page because both would look stupid to me.

I'm going to be a contrarian, I'm afraid, and forgive me for that.

The flag looks extremely dirty and muddy.  I assume that that was intentional, but, classically, it is a huge sign of disrespect for the flag.  Flags that are dirty, threadbare or torn are supposed to be burned.

On the other hand, using the flag to make a statement can be very powerful.  A dirty flag is usually interpreted as a powerful, but negative, political statement.

Here it seems like the flag is intended to add a positive element to the image, sort of "classic American manliness".  Yet, by being so dirty, it badly detracts from that message -- at least for those who understand the symbolism.

Because of that, I think the B&W image works better, but I would reshoot with a clean flag.

The flag is not dirty at all actually.  It's a beach towel and it was made to look like that.  A friend of mine came to visit me about a month ago, he went to Santa Monica, bought it, used it once to lay one the sand, and then went back to NJ but told me to keep it.  I told him I would find a use for it since I don't go to the beach often at all and for whatever reason when I saw this model I got an image in my head of him holding it by this tunnel so I brought it to the shoot.  I then told him to wrap it around the way he did so that the inside of it wouldn't show too much and give away the fact that it's actually a towel.  It's for sure not dirty.
