My name is Ricky Kharawala, and I am a photographer based in Somerset, New Jersey. Although I caught the photography bug as a young teenager, I would say my passion and reason for taking pictures came to me as a little boy. When we were children, we were always asked: "So what do you want to be when you grow up?" Some kids wanted to be doctors, others thought they'd become teachers or firefighters. My answer wasn't particularly unique, but it was a little overambitious: I wanted to be Superman.

So what does photography have to do with a comic book hero? With a camera, I feel like I have superpowers. I can freeze the happiest moment of a person's life for them to look back at forever. I can manipulate light to reflect the raw emotion of a moment. I have super-vision when I take a macro shot of a droplet of water. And it even feels like I'm flying for a second when I capture a wide angle shot of an entire city from a mountaintop view.

In a way, photography has been my way of expressing the magic I see in our world even if it doesn't have superheroes. I might not be Superman saving the world from all of its problems and disasters... But as a photographer, I have the power of saving the beauty and good still left in this world. I really want to expand my photography experience and gain more exposure, and I think model mayhem is the perfect place for my creative hunger to grow.
