.~{ WHO'S BEHIND THE CAMERA? }~.
I am primarily an actress and model with over 20 years experience in the entertainment industry (see: http://www.facebook.com/SarahKlarenOfficial and #1384724 here on Model Mayhem), but have spent my entire life devoted to the arts in all its forms. I thrive on creativity and the ability to express myself through art, whether it be in front of the camera, behind the camera, on canvas, on stage, through paint, words, or photographs.

At the age of 15, my very first job was working as a lab technician and photographer's assistant at a local photography shop. I learned the ins and outs of photography back when the majority of photographers were still using film, and DSLRs had just started becoming popular. (I remember the first Canon Rebel!) I guess you could say I learned the "old school" way. And I must say, we have come a long way in the world of DSLRs since then... and I'm quite enjoying it. :)


.~{ WHAT'S IN A NAME? }~.
Because I know some of you are wondering... The name Walela Photography was inspired by my love for hummingbirds and their symbolism, combined with my Cherokee heritage. "Walela" (wah-LAY-luh) is the Cherokee word for "hummingbird". The hummingbird is the symbol of love, hope, strength, and a purpose driven life.

In Native American belief, hummingbirds are a sacred vessel that connect the human middle world with the the spirit world, sometimes carrying the spirits of our ancestors. With that in mind, the story of how my fascination with hummingbirds began is a personal one. But if you're really curious, it's a rather beautiful story that I'd be glad to share with you. Just ask. :)
