Spelled: Chihuahua.

Try the SPCA, your local animal shelter or any washed-up B actor who bought one when Paris carted Tinkerbelle around with her drumming up paparazzi clicks wink

How petfinder works is you enter the type of pet you are looking for and the area you are looking for it in.  It will then show a listing of the Chihuahua's in your area that are available for adoption.  Normally the SPCA is included.

According to the website the following place has two:

Sav-A-Dog Foundation Inc.
P.O. Box 589
Red Hook NY 12571
Phone: 845-758-9297

Maybe this is the place you were referring to.

They are probably just closed to the public.   (I sure hope so)  There normally are volunteers who go in to take care of the animals.

Petfinder aggregates animals available for adoption from various sources, I belive.

I'm sure no matter where you are, there are shelters with dogs waiting to be adopted.  If you've got your heart set on a chihuahua, you're like to find one or at least mixed breed that needs a home.

If you're near Northshore Animal League, try them.  It's a no-kill shelter in Nassau County that many of my firneds have gotten dogs from.  They expect you to come in and just hang out with the dog for a while before taking him home.

Just be careful....They get MEAN if you don't get them enough TACO BELL :

FREMONT, Calif. (AP) - A pack of angry Chihuahuas attacked a police officer who was escorting a teenager home after a traffic stop, authorities said.

The officer suffered minor injuries, including bites to his ankle, Detective Bill Veteran said.

The five Chihuahuas escaped the 17-year-old boy's home and rushed the officer in the doorway Thursday, authorities said. The teenager had been detained after the traffic incident.

The officer was treated at a hospital and returned to work less than two hours later.

aw, Benny, that poor dog looks scared! If I knew how to post images in here (I used to...forgot), I would post a pic of my little long-haired chihuahua. We are thinking of looking for a female companion for him, and want to try and breed them.
My pup's pic is in my profile at the moment if anyone wants to take a peek. I am wanting to get some pics of myself done with him soon.
