Just got a new female model notification from that other model place and there isn't a single picture in her portfolio.  Ok, not a big deal.  I assume she'll put some in there when she gets around to it.

The funny thing is that there are 13 acknowledgements since she joined 2 days ago, 11 of which are "Desire to Work With".

I have to admit, she seems to have great stats, but to want to work with  her sight unseen?  Seems a little premature to me.

I assume someone must know here because two of the acknowledgements are for good/excellent work.

lol

She probably checked one of the "nude" boxes and all of the GWC's went to work.

I left the Other Model Place, partly, for that reason. There didn't really seem to be any sort of quality filter on anything.

Wow!  You're right.  You get to go to the head of the line.

Maybe the response was overwhelming and she just decided to shut it down.

Hmmm...

Just when I think I've discovered something incredible, profound, unique, and inexplicable, someone offers up an ordinary rational explanation, shattering my fragile sense of pride and innocent joy.

What else can I say?  I'm devastated.

Good thing I'm not the President with control over "The Button".  I might have sarted World War 3 over nothing more than a hunch...

So what's the difference.  Post a similar (or camera phone portfolio) and you can get 25 friend requests and a similar number of tag's telling you how great you are and "I'd love to work with you (even though I live 10 states away)"

Dave,

I ran an ad in the local university paper for models, back in May of 2000, and had over twenty calls. The only thing I ask for was that they be under twenty five, and be able to wear a size eight dress, or smaller.

When they called I told them that the work was nude, but not porn,  and I ask questions about ther stats, and picked five for paid test shoots. I offered $50.00 for two hours of their time, which was good back in 2000. I also gave them a local gallery name where they could see my work.

I never saw a single photo of them until they walked through my door. Two of the women were great, and the other three produced several images that have sold well, and are still selling in 2006. Three of them were ask back for second shoots, and one was my best ever starting model.

Well.....it's fresh meat.....

edit: that's not fair to say. But really, everyone wants to be the first photographer that a new model works with.....so hence the tags and comments on a less than stellar port or a port with no photos. Maybe the mentality is that if they are new, then they will be easier to talk into nude? WHo knows. When I signed up years ago, overnight I received over 200 messages/emails from photographers wanting to work with me. Out of all of those....I think that maybe 10 were okay that I didn't do nude work. And I had 4 photos up that I had shot with a photographer in GA of my face only.

All good points I hadn't considered. The possible humor of it was what struck me first.

Not sure why people discuss other sites here.  Wait, I know cause, they do not allow it over there.

But there is a great lesson here.   People need to see through the surface of what is presented cause that may not be what is de truth.

You think that is something.  I once saw a female photographer’s request in the TFP forum.  She got 8-10 responses from some pretty gorgeous women.  Her main was a picture of a muslin backdrop and no images in her port.  G*D, men must really be pigs to draw this kind of response.

Maybe someone wrote a search & submit software program to do that with anyone having the right stats.

I will never shoot someone sight unseen.  I don't like surprises.  It's hard enough to find models that fit my admittedly selective requirements even when I do have pictures to go by.

I remember when I first joined that other site. I got about 75 requests in 2 days. They were all from GWC's, who were looking for nudes. I didn't even check the nudes button, or have any up.

I had a pretty similar experience, even with "NO NUDES" in my text.

Although I tried to be selective, I was unexperienced and did end up shooting with a few creeps... almost gave up modelling entirely.  These days, good references are a MUST; I don't care how good the photos they put online are if they can't back their behavior up.

That is how I am anymore.
Too many creeps ruined it for me. I actually only shot with two creeps.
But I learned fast being selective is good.

Dave,

If a woman is eighteen to twenty two, and has great stats, I can fine something about her worth photographing.

That's what I understand. All the photogs who elect to receive notices of new models barrage the newbies as soon as they're online. I've had a couple of models tell me that they get over 100 Emails the first day, and similar results over the next couple of days. I guess it can be overwhelming - and take hours to get through your mailbox even when you're deleting most of the "offers."

Maybe she's a vampire and her likeness isn't showing up except to other vampires.

I understand the same, Wm.  I once convinced a model to join that (let's call it) Oh! Many Profiles! site, and she said she got so many emails, she cried.  It was just overwhelming, all the more so b/c she couldn't distinguish the legit photogs from the sharpies.  If you know a model who's joining over there, warn her to expect a deluge!
