i just don't like to touch other ppl's secretion, even the dried up stuff.

OK, well, Liz you're my girl but this would never even come up.  if folks don't feel comfortable doing porn they shouldn't do it but make no mistake when you're working for a pro adult production company, it's a legit and professional business just like any other.  And like any other segment of the biz there are folks who are legit and folks who are shady which leads me to

Hey everyone!

I had a creepy man call me this morning - he said he was wondering if i was still looking for freelance work, and as I always am I said yes.

He then went on to say he had a project in a few weeks coming up, he said its a little bit different as its an adult film!

I instantly said no, its like the word fell out of my mouth!

So while on the subject just wondering if anyone has ever done make-up for a adult movie??

What I imagine seems to be highly embarrasing and uncomfortable.
Do you like have to touch up inbetween scenes when the make-up has 'sweated off'? lol *cringes*

again, I can't tell you how to feel about whether or not you feel you want to do adult work HOWEVER the way this guy approached you sounds shady to me.  I, personally, have no problem doing adult work and actually have worked for a couple of adult production companies early in my career.  The makeup room was nowhere near set and if I took a photo of it you wouldn't know it was an adult production company's makeup room vs any other production company's makeup room.  I did their makeup, they did their thing.  The End.  We weren't involved with each other beyond that.  And then when I was done for the day I was given a check.  Perfectly above boards.

So as with anything, my concern is whether I'm working with a pro, legit company or not.  I don't know if he actually sounded shady on the phone or if you're projecting that onto the conversation you had with him but anyway, if you're uncomfortable with it in any way, just leave it alone and let some other artist do it.

T.  you were definitely in a good situation there.  Doing the initial makeup isn't my problem, is having to touchup mid shoot that i don't want to deal with.

Nope.  Not required to do touchups.  Actors do their "scene" and that's it.  There are no touchups in porn.  LOL

well, i did use long-last lipstick and perhaps a sealer as well.  other than that, that was their problem.  I wasn't required to do touchups.  I just made the initial application as bulletproof as possible.

I ave worked on several 'adult' films, and it's really no big deal. I'm usually in a separate room from where they are shooting. And they don't typically care to have them touched up...Just use a fake name, apparently some people can be really judgemental if they find out you have worked on those girls. The money is green, and I'm not their mothers...let 'em make their money however they want to!

k, am I the only one that would be completely happy doing makeup and hair for porn as pretty much a full time job?  I've met a couple porn stars, male and female, and they were kick ass fun! Not to mention that the adult industry is huuuuuuuuuuuuge. Those studios have so much money! I'll slather on that f&b sporting a shit-eating grin the whole time, haha.

Of course, like everyone above, this applies to PRO adult studios. You will not see me on the set of the next "Bronx Bruthas Invade Mars"

this is my modeling account btw.*

anyways, I did an adult film back in January, I was requested by one my friends that was going to be a photographer for the "still shots" (don't ask uuuugh)
I accepted, the pay was good, and I was interested in it for the shits and giggles. The place was set at a mansion up in the hollywood hills and I guess it depends on the director and company, because everything done was pretty sanitory more than what you think about "dirty" porn.  The girls showered after every scene, I NEVER had to do touch ups in between only after every scene was finished. Probably the weirdest request I had to do was lube up one of the girls (top portion only) and to cover up the booty from scars and what not (lemme tell you, i threw away the brush after that & thank goodness it wasn't my expensive one)

it was uncomfortable to watch, but i was prepared with magazines, my ds and my ipod to keep myself busy during sets & to block out the noise..

doing makeup for the adult industry is not for the squirmish or close minded, you have to do your research, since this was referred to me from a friend I trusted him. But find out everything you can about the company and what exactly is involved and see if you are comfortable, you dont want to end up at a set in an alley with beastiality involved. and since I had my friend I felt safe.

so for a total of 10 hrs the pay was $600..worth it for me & all the interesting stories i was able to tell my friends.

well, some people just aren't temperamentally suited for certain jobs, that's fine. Doesn't mean other people aren't more than happy to take them up. Certainly, if a job gives you the heeby-jeebies, then pass it by, but there's no need to rain on their parade once they've taken it.

well I'm not posting based on feelings, but on actual work experience.  but like I said before there's good and bad in every aspect of this biz (hell I have a non-adult work client who skipped out without paying to the tune of $1000 over 6 months ago).  If it feels sketchy, just don't do it.  But if you haven't done it, don't assume it's all/always like that because you are incorrect in that assumption.

Just one of the down sides? Wouldn't that be like saying, "I love selling new cars but that new car smell makes me want to vomit."

I won't even ask why you would believe that juices would be smudged on just about everything you touch. That's now a "down side" you have. That's a full-fledged phobia.

I have worked as a makeup artist on all kinds of shoots from mainstream to adult and I dont see what the big deal is. There seems to be an attitude that porn stars are "dirty" but I dont think so. They are tested a lot more often than the regular population, and you have no idea what the models you are doing makeup on in mainstream are doing with their personal lives or when they were last tested. I keep my kit sanitary no matter who I am working on.

I also think some of you would be surprised how many big name artists also do work in adult.

My only question is what products you use to make makeup stay or little tricks and hints for body makeup etc? Anything helps so Im prepped for that.
I will also get a chance to intern before the shoot to go and assist.
Thanks!

heres my opinion:

a check is a check is a check.

thats it.

its not like you are applying the makeup and watching them "do their thing" and then jump in a do touch ups.

i have worked on a few adult films. they are professional people making a living doing what they enjoy.. and i'm a professional person making a living doing what i enjoy.

we are in an idustry of many talents regardless if you are a makeup artist, photographer, stylist, film maker, actor.

who is to say what is right and what is wrong? They are making a movie. who cares what this movie involves. we watch movies all the time that has some form of sex scene involved.. Titanic, Departed, Notebook... etc all have sex scenes.. its acting!! its their job.. they dont judge you. so dont judge them.

show up. do your job. get paid. go home to your family. the end.

I don't think there is any delicate way to put this, but the thing that really concerned me about makeup for porn is cum shots. There it is; sperm all over someone's face or body. Is that the makeup artists job to clean up?

I have a friend who has her own studio, and she works with a reputable adult video company/website. She loves it.

And as it was said above, if you're safe, and the check clears (I require money order, yay!), then what's the issue.

Wow my thread from almost 2 years ago. I had forgot all about this.

And just to let you all know, the guy must of forgot he called me and a couple of weeks later he called me again. He asked me the same question and this time  I said yes out of sheer curiosity I asked him to send me over the details, he never and just asked me to 'text me your asking price' to which I sent my day rate, which is the going rate for my area.

2 days later I got a reply saying my rates where far too high and he isn't willing to pay that, the girls will do there own makeup!

I never even bothered replying,  I always follow my gut instinct these days!

I'm glad you folowedyour gut instincts about it :-)

I've done makeup for adult films/adult industry before. They pay well, and it's usuall easy work. though sometimes i came across some girls who were rather um...i guess there's no easy way to say this but "coked out" and would not stop moving and twitching and tweaking out in the chairs...it was kinda crazy :-/

Edit: woops, that was supposed to be my makeup account

Lol this entire thread made me giggle and trust me, I've been having a bad day and needed that good giggle. smile
Okay, so where do I start? The adult industry is how do I say.. my 2nd industry! I've done makeup for a lot of adult videos. Having worked in the industry myself had its perks because everyone knew I was a makeup artist and I got even more jobs not only as an entertainer, but an artist as well. This industry isn't for everyone, but doing makeup for porn and/or feature dancers is no different than doing anyone elses makeup. Its a job. I've NEVER been asked to do touchups after they have already started a scene. I have always had the option to leave as soon as makeup was applied and completed. Makeup is applied in a seperate area, you don't need to be anywhere near the set.
NO, you absolutely DO NOT have to "clean up cum shots".. that's absolutely ridiculous to say something like that and call it "fact". Although porn stars are clean and always tested regularly, my brush and hands do NOT and will NOT touch the talent after they have been "active" in the scene.
If your uncomfortable doing something, simply don't do it! As far as doing it for "anyone", don't just do it for anyone. I am picky about who I work with! Reputable businesses or go home..
Hope this helps smile
