Thanks for the amazing picture -- I couldn't resist working on it.   I'm planning on taking the makeup further, but before I mess it up here's the super-clean version.

Besides the basic stuff, I did the following:

- degrunge
- improved symmetry
- added mid tone contrast
- MANY adjustment layers for small fixes, most of which happened to be curves
- removed visual "snags"

I know the overall tone of the image is "softer" compared to the original, but I'll remedy that in my creative version -- coming soon!

EDIT: IT SUCKS! TOO MUCH BLURRING ON THE LOW FREQUENCY LAYER WILL GIVE YOU THIS ARTIFICIAL LOOK.

I like this. But....how did you get the skin texture looking like that?

First I did basic cleanup which involved lots of clone stamp (on lighten and darken settings as well as normal), and patching.

First I applied a degrunge, then I went in with curves adjustment layers and lightened the shadows of lines and spots I didn't like, while darkening the highlights of lines and spots with other curves adjustment layers. After I was happy with the skin texture I had not painted away, I did hefty sharpening using the techniques brilliantly instructed by Sean Baker in this thread:  https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=439098 , and then I took out the sharpest white spots on the skin with a scratch/dust removal filter masked on.

Very nicely done.

I love Sean's Highpass... thread. There is a lot of good stuff in there and I use most of it on almost every image I work on.

Hi, Phen.

What method did you use to whiten the teeth? I normally use a Hue/Saturation layer with inverted mask, lower saturation, paint over with low opacity brush on mask.

Mike

To whiten the teeth here I simply used the sponge tool on a low opacity and took a little yellow out, and I dodged them very slightly. For this type of thing it's easy just to do that, because she is a kid and doesn't need bling bling teeth.

Thank you, Phen. I've never tried that way. Something else to add to my list of things to try.

I really appreciate it.

I just added a line and a five on the wall and changed the color of the numbers.  smile

I lost this thread lol. I stumbled on this photo the other day sitting in my retouch drive and was like oh yeah so here is my go at it. smile

All I basically did was take my time with the cleanup and some color adjustments with selective color. The a little curve and dodge and burn. I tried to keep it simple, how'd I do?

Someone with a calibrated monitor would have to say for sure, but the skin looks a bit green in some areas. Specifically below the eye in the closeup.

Otherwise, very nice job on the cleanup. I need to get back in here and try a few as soon as I get some spare time.

hmmm yeah it's greenish around the right side of the face, but I don't see it under the eye. I was thinking about the light bouncing off the green plant in her hair for the side of the face...maybe I shouldn't have?

Well, the thing about it is my monitor isn't calibrated so it could be off a bit. Maybe it isn't quite a green tint, but a yellow with green tint. Or, it might be fine and I'll be the only one that sees it. smile

I think you did a great job on the skin, though. Very nice. smile

I see it on my calibrated monitor- green/yellow under bottom right edge of eye, by the nose and below the mouth- though it is very slight

Yes. That's exactly where I see it too. I always hate to even mention things like this since my monitor isn't calibrated, but I always at least include that info in case it is just my monitor so someone with a calibrated monitor can double-check.

Thank you. smile

That happens to me more often than I can count. I'll go away for a bit then come back and as soon as I look at the screen, I'll see something messed up that I hadn't notice in the 2 hours I was staring at the screen. smile

Since it has that hard accent light I wanted to give it a strong, gritty, slightly beach-y theme.
Lots of RAW edits, etc.
LOTS of patch tool.
Lots of dodging/burning.
Added luminance blending and a sharpened layer at 50%.

I guess u were focusing more on the skin. It looks smooth but a bit tooooo smooth for my personal taste. what method did u use?

I used a couple of plugins. Took me about 5 mins to edit that photo.

I used to edit the same way you do, but took too long. I try and focus less on post production and more on shooting.

Here's my view on this image.

Almost all clone tool lighten and darken, a few curves layers, all coming from LR, then slightly tweaked in LR for output.

I could post a PSD if there is enough demand.

I did change the jpg, the one I posted before was too bright.

There is a lot more detail in the full size than this jpg>
