If someone has a problem with your images and can't separate them from you as a person, they are retarded....and not worth your time.

yep. He/she would not approve no matter what you did. Some parents are like that. No matter what you do they dont approve. So when your in that boat you hold your head high and dont let the naysayers mean a thing.

Anyone see that show on the porn star whose parents manager her career. Shes gorgeous but I forget her name. We act like nudity and even sex is like killing someone and killing someone is like nudity or sex.

I once asked a table of adults - would you rather your 10 year old saw someone killed or a nude woman - over half had to think about it.

wtf

sex/nudity - goes with love, relationships, marriage.

killing - hate, violence, pain.

Yet they have to think about it.... they have to think about it...

From what I've heard from doctors, seeing breasts (or whatever) as part of the medical process or whatever is no thrill.  Same with my photography. Sometimes I'm very pleased with the form of the model's body, but because of what it will look like in the images.  If I saw the same woman on a beach or something it would be very different.

I shot bikini with a daughter and nudes with the mother the same day, and I shot nudes with woman whose daughter I'd like to do a fashion shoot with.  Kinda the flip of the OP's situation . . .

Just one word "ew"

If your father's opinion matters that much (and it's not bad if it is)...
Talk to him about it, and tell him how you feel about it..

I have met many models... male and female... and to once they sat down with their parents... They understood why they did it.

Now this does not guarantee their approval by any means... it's more of an acceptance... and there is that chance.

SO long story short (Because everyone's an expert)... They will always love you no matter what (at least when I'm a Dad... and if I had a daughter that did modeling, I would still love her.. though I would support her too)

One could also argue that one could get turned on even if they weren't nude... DUH... I can't believe so many people are so ignorant as to think that ONLY naked turns on a man.

Speaking as a man (but unfortuantely cannot speak for others)

It truely is a mind set.. My wife=Fun Bags... so I react accordingly.
Other models=Strictly business... no sex... no fun bags.. just art..

So for me.. A boner is a no go when it comes to other nude women.

You did have him on that.  You just need to emphasize the fact that there is such a thing as "professional detachment."  If I was pitching a tent all through a photoshoot I wouldn't be able to remember how to use my camera, let alone take a decent shot.  Photographers HAVE to intentionally suppress their attraction, at least to some degree, to be able to work.

There have only been two times that my detachment slipped, and it was only for a few seconds each, but I had to take a short break to get my mind out of the gutter and get on with the job.

The answer to that is "So would you refuse to strip for the doctor?"

The issue is not whether people who deal with nudity on a daily basis ever get turned on, it's whether the photographers you, personally are working with behave in a professional manner or not.

Believe it or not, it is possible for a straight guy to see a naked woman and not instantly get a boner. There is such a thing as context. In the bedroom you're looking at a woman in a certain way; in the studio it is (or should be) an entirely different experience.

When my father in law found out that my wife was modeling nude, the fecal matter hit the rotating object in many ways. Needless to say he was no thrilled... But he has "gotten over it" and has moved on, no harm no foul...

Personally, everyone has the same equipment as every other member of that gender. The only differences are size, shape, color, and feel... No big deal to me, especially after being a firefighter for 11 years. Doing that, you need to learn how to "turn it off," per say.

I'm an adult and I do what I enjoy. Both of my parents know I have modeled nude for drawing classes and photographers. They don't seem uptight about it and they haven't asked to see the pictures. If they asked I would show them. I am proud of what I have done. smile

it's a lot to expect that a dad or mom would be thrilled or approve.  there are the odd families where the parents actually are behind a model getting into nude modeling and even hardcore porn.  there are mothers who live vicariously through their daughters and want them to get into Playboy and sometimes more than Playboy.

i shoot a lot of first time nude models, usually they won't be shot by anybody else nude so I have a lot of experience dealing with parents and their reactions.  parents if they're not laden down with a ton of puritanical religious crap almost always get over it,  they just accept their kids for who they and what they do and life goes on.  sometimes it's enough of an issue that the model stops -  it's just not worth it.  it's easy to say i'm an adult and i make my own decisions about my life, but if you come from a close family and  it costs you relationships with family is it worth it?

I just lost one of the girls in my portfolio as a model,  she loves doing it and has no regrets or guilt. but she's young, just heading to college this fall and mom and dad control the purse strings -  she's made the correct decision for herself,  college being paid for by mom and dad is more important than nude modeling.

Mine wasn't really shocked, but I think feels basically the same way. My dad's been a single parent since I was a kid, and when I started modeling for art classes at age 18, he worried about guys "ogling" me, but wasn't about to disown me over it or anything. He knows I still pose nude, also knows about the risque stage shows I'm in, and is as ok with it as a father can be, I guess! He just doesn't want to see any of it, and that's just fine with me.

i photograph nudes, and get asked this question.  i don't give advice, as i don't know the parents.  some fathers, i suspect, have a large level of jealousy about their daughters on the subject of nudity with a photographer.  i'm also a dad, and if my daughter did nude work, i'd love to see the images which celebrate her and feminine beauty, but i wouldn't care to see anything explicit.  i'd also want to know that she is safe.  that is the primary thing, that she be safe.

if a model is sexually attractive to me, i tend not to work with her.  if i do, i totally suppress it during the shoot.  when i become aware is later, when i see the film.  i am a hot-blooded male, and i greatly appreciate all fine women, but it doesn't mean i lust for everything that's female.  no decent man does, and good photographers never allow themselves to lust after their models.  lust ruins a shoot and usually ruins a working relationship.  my working rule is that sex and photography never, never mix.  models can tell that to their dads.  norm

I shot nudes with the model's mom in the other room.  Awkward, but she didn't interfere; I got used to it in a few minutes.  I don't care who is in the other room.

I mean, as long as it's not *my* mother.

Bingo.

There's a girl I was (and probably still am) in love with.  There's no way I could take a simple head shot of her without getting aroused and distracted.  I look in to her eyes and get butterflies.

I don't shoot her.

And I explain to my non-photographer friends that the set isn't as exciting as they imagine.  Not like in the movies.  Or at least the movies they are watching.

Hey, I've had friends who had to overcome that issue about dad.   Basically it's like this.  There's 2 things.  Dad's are always concerned about the girls welfare with new photographers. So having him on set is fine, but not telling him when he's not going to be is fine too.

Now as for getting his approval.  It's like sales. you don't sell the steak, you sell the sizzle.  What one model and I came up with was she texted him and told him that she was excited and got her pictures back.  And asked if he wanted to see.    of course he says yes.   Now, remember dad's are also terrified of appearing like they WANT to, because the wife might strangel them. lol  So the text made it really private.

Then, she baited him by saying she needed his opinion on which is better.  (keep in mind he's never going to turn down a chance to be the hero) then I told her to say  "well it's kinda revealing, you swear you won't tell mom? right"  with a smile.  Sure enough he says of cousre not, send away.   And well, his phone was one nude greater than it was before. lol

So she kept that up with the "need your opinion" thing and every time he was willing to give it, meant he was going to compare, so that tells you he didn't really hate it.  smile

I'll always find a solution. lol

If he won't approve of your implied nudes whatever are you going to do if you decide to do a full nude ?  Okay, Mr. Photographer, you can shoot me nude but don't put it anywhere my Daddy can see it ?

If you are that worried about it, don't do it at all.  One of the worse things is a model holding back because she has fears about what she is doing.

Random thoughts:

>>>  Your folks know you are a hot babe -- that's why your dad sits on the porch cleaning his shotgun when you are out on a date with a new guy.

>>>  What's the difference between your family & your friends:  your friends accept what you do, while your family approves of what you do.  I'm nearly 60 years old, and my 87 year old mother still gets to approve (or disapprove) what I do -- we both know that I'm going to do what I want, but she still gets to approve (or disapprove) everything.  It never goes away.  Sorry.

>>>  I'm a big believer in getting all kinds of support.  Manage your relationships carefully & with honesty -- that's the best way.

Not quite the same, but when I first started shooting nudes, I made a point of showing my work to my wife and family.  Initially they were very concerned, not about me but fear that the models would be grifters, throwing all sorts of sexual harassment charges around.  With time they, especially my wife, came to enjoy meeting the models and now it's a case of,  "It's just what Dad does," and occasionally they even show a spark of pride in my work.  Mostly, though,  "It's just what Dad does."

My guess is that it would be pretty much the same with your parents.

Ummm, I think we can see maybe why your father might be uneasy about nude modeling, just because of that protective nature fathers have over their daughters.  Mind you, I'm not knocking your nude modeling or any nude modeling for that matter, in your case, he may have a problem with it, I don't know, he may be fine with it, I say talk to him about it.

Most Dads don't seem to mind art nudes.  It's when you start shooting Playboy nudes they get a little irritated.  They feel their daughters ARE art.  They don't want people masturbating to them.

It's generally the style of nude that will bother the Dads.
Look at each nude before you show your father.  If the nude says, "I'm sexy," don't show him.  If the nude says, "I'm art," he probably won't mind.
