Best poses?
What is your go-to pose or favorite pose and why? Nov 13 14 06:17 pm Link The first pose I give instruction for is the 1-2-3 pose. It's basically the beauty pageant pose. You can do it standing or sitting. 1) point your shoulder near the main light forward towards the main light. 2) point your chin towards the main light. 3) look into the camera. Done correctly it gives a short light to the face (a little modelling) and a cross body light to the chest (in case they where white it won't blow out the white). Nov 13 14 06:53 pm Link I started portrait photography this year, and I am very surprised how many photographers wing it. Especially with couples posing. Not sure why. It is easy to learn a dozen poses to keep the shoot flowing. Nov 13 14 06:56 pm Link If I do have an Old Faithful it's probably sideways with my leg closest to the camera slightly lifted and knee bent. Basically the one second from the right on the bottom: http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/ … 3c3c0c.jpg It's easy, comfortable and I think I get a pretty decent profile doing it, simply. Nov 14 14 05:24 am Link I don't do poses. I create scenarios, and direct the movement within the scenario. Nov 14 14 06:02 am Link Nov 14 14 10:37 am Link The pose depends on so many things..... what you're wearing, the surroundings, the purpose of the shot, sometimes the type lighting. Posing in a bathing suit is different than posing in a formal. Posing in front of seamless is different than posing while sitting on the queens throne. And the pose depends on the model. Some can pull it off while with others it would either look stupid or not show the model at their best. Might I suggest trial and error ? Do many poses, see which ones work best for you in which situations and stick with those. Nov 14 14 10:44 am Link I do poses very similar to my avatar often I think. You can see the collar bones well and I donno it's just flattering to me when it comes to portraits. It's also something easy for models to understand if they're new to modeling. I need more variety though :p Nov 14 14 10:51 am Link I suppose this name has floated around so much that everybody might be tired of hearing it, but Sue Bryce is great at coaxing poses out of women. She has systematic approaches to posing her clients and she gets great results. You would have to buy access to her videos, or perhaps somebody you know has access to them. You can also look up her blog for ideas too. She posts a lot of photos from shoots with her clients. Nov 14 14 11:11 am Link Carl Herbert wrote: she has plenty of videos on youtube. Nov 14 14 11:59 am Link I don't have a series of poses I use at all. I try to be in the basic mood of the shoot and move throughout, pausing every two seconds or so. Nov 14 14 06:07 pm Link Nov 17 14 04:36 am Link I try to pay attention to the lines and curves of my figure and create shapes, preferably triangles and S curves. S curve is created by throwing your hip out to one side and leaning your chest in the other direction, in my opinion looks best if the far leg is bent and positioned in front of the other leg, makes the pose look more dynamic and is figure flattering. Also, the more movement in the pose, the better, and generally the more exaggerated the angles of your body are the more interesting it ends up looking, if I'm not a little sore at the end of a shoot I didn't do my best. Also sometimes if I'm really stuck I put my hands in my hair and move it around as the shape of the arms and way the hair frames the face can really change a look up. I'd have to say in art nudes it is in being relaxed and natural while stretching into some lines and as a non art nude it would be more portraiture or emotive or in a dance move action shot. Nov 17 14 09:21 pm Link I generally set a mood and let the model explore and play within that to her interpretation, especially when I notice a model has a strong sense of self. I like to allow the model the creative freedom to add his or her touch to the image. I will make minor adjustments here and there as needed. With weaker posers I give more suggestions, but I will still leave them open ended to allow the model the freedom to explore. I think its crucial to leave posing instructions somewhat loose and allow the model to find a comfortable resting spot. Otherwise it will come off rigid and forced. I will only hint this after an hour of one concept or apparel choice as we more than likely have THE shot ... Nov 18 14 01:56 pm Link I don't have a fav/go-to-pose. But what I like to pose are the ones that require some action/dance/movement makes me really feel like putting the effort in! (I also do that in the nondance-poses ofcourse!) I guess I'm not yet that confident with still poses, but I'm working on that (btw, examples in my port ) Nov 18 14 02:40 pm Link omg I want this book Nov 19 14 11:04 am Link I think it's a personal thing when it comes to "THAT" pose. For example: Holding (key word: HOLDING) squats and full lengths in 6 " heels is a challenge but my favorite pose is to contort https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/36380590 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/35305495 https://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/pic/31833951 Sam Nov 19 14 05:48 pm Link I tend to overdo my posing at times and the photographer will tell me to act more natural. I'll pose with my neck, legs, back, and elbows all at once. Poses i've done in the past were mainly the awkward poses with a deer-like expression: Nowadays I go to more dynamic and angular poses: Nov 19 14 06:01 pm Link |
