What passes for "ART" on free, public glamour modeling sites would get some practitioners  rapidly booted from any legitimate art school.

A leading photography educator once said "those that choose not to put in the time and labor to study art will have a hard time making any".

When I need inspirations or motivation I visit 500px.com  nudes section.  It's so refreshing to see the works from folks outside on USA.

Giving the option of hanging either a Cindy Sherman image on my wall, or some of the photos I've found on this site and listed as "fine art"; I'll take the work I find here any day.  I know what I like to look at, so I don't care what some "legitimate" art school thinks I should find artistic.

Since you bring the point up though; I'm genuinely curious to know if you believe your work qualifies as art, based on the standard of these leading educators.  If you think it does, then what qualities make your images different from some of the images people have listed in this thread?

And, just to stay on topic, whose work on this site do you consider to truly be "art"?

I love photographing dancers and acrobats...

There are some amazing art photographers on this site R Michael Walker is a great example .  There are a few more.

I do agree that all too often that with out references to the art of the past and the great fine and photographic artists of the past art photography would wither on the vine.

I call my work Fine Art but I doubt anyone else does.  I try to make my work interesting. It is difficult to cut out the model freehand and try and match the shadows and overlay capes and grass and stuff. I kinda like working like this.

I think it is a matter of venue.  You can find some really beautiful work on here, but it takes a look of looking and sadly it seems to be lacking in most of the contests. (I've seen too much beautiful work neglected for shots that honestly rely purely on the attractiveness of a model and how much of her we can show in the most graphic context the site will allow)

There is merit to alot of work here, but the curatorship/areas for it to be located is rather tedious.

Two cents.

That has always been one of my favorites as well, Sarah. It's one of your (and Brian's) best. And you do have so many good ones.
