Hi!

I am starting getting into the art nude kinda thing and am loving it. HOWEVER, I have yet to see other art nude models with short hair! Am I one of a few? Should I grow my hair out to fit with the industry?

Show me photos of short haired nudes, any advice appreciated etc etc.

Thankies very much,
Cupcake x

All looks are needed in art; as long as it works *for you* (and I think it does), stick with whatever makes you stand out!

I think nude models with short hair are SUPER sexy. If you want more info about your hair and what people think of you specifically, you're welcome to post in critique! We can't give unsolicited critiques here. smile

I've worked with models that have short hair.  Even did some classic nude poses with a model that had a Mohawk.  I liked the combo of classic style with modern hairstyle.  There are some examples in my portfolio.

The most important thing about hair, short or long,
https://photos.modelmayhem.com/photos/081010/14/48ef9c7ad2cc1_m.jpg
is that it's healthy and that it fits your face like hers.
Presently you definitely fit that description.

My best nude model just shaved her head..I know a couple others that go bald too. Me..I like long hair..but that's my own bias..I'll work with what ever I'm presneted IF the model is good enough.

Hi Cupcake.
Hun you have nothing to worry about. You look absolutely lovely as you are.
Besides, in nude modeling especially artistic nudes, it's about the figure and how you express yourself with your form that is the focus in my opinion, not your hair.
In many cases long hair models are asked to put their hair in a bun as to not distract from the contours and lines of the figure.

My port examples of short hair body work,
All 18+ of course;

semi short;

I personally have no preferences.

Take a look at my portfolio, my wife who is an experienced art and photography model has had short hair for about the past 10 years and has been chosen for some assignments specifically because of the short hair.

I find that hair length doesn't make much difference for fine art nudes. I like to work with models having very long hair as well as those with short hair, it adds variety.

If I'm shooting general nudes, I wouldn't care if your hair was long or short as long as it fit your look. I only prefer long hair if I'm shooting commercial/fashion-ish type stuff.

I'm going to be a short-haired nude model by the end of next year.

Or, well, I'm getting it cut into a mohawk, then eventually buzzed off with clippers. I have a cue of folk already lined up, who are excited to shoot after my hair is all cut off.

Short hair, long hair, to me it doesn't matter. It is all about getting the right pose for the shot you are trying to get. A good art nude model can bring the concept the photographer is trying to create to life.

You can always wear a wig!

Short hair is cool - like it a lot and never turn down an opportunity to shoot it because it is so different on the scene.

Short hair is great. I looks great on women period. I personally like the 'spiked' or messy look in photos.

And if everyone's comments aren't enough.

Look at it this way, your not a candidate for the proverbial 'hair hanging over breasts' shot that has become so old it makes me want to puke.

+100 for you !

You have a wonderful, beautiful "Mia Farrow" (anyone remember her?) look to you. Don't change! I'd hire and paint you in a minute!

but don't you agree that the majority of art nude photographers are looking to hire models with longer hair?

Nope, not in my experience.
Many times the long hair is bound and coiled up.

i don't see how seeing photos of other models with short hair will help. it would make more sense, if you're interested in modeling professionally, to find out about your market. find photographers in your area (or out of your area) who hire nude models, and ask them what kind of models they're looking for, and if they prefer long or short hair. or, just look at their portfolios to see what kind of models they shoot.

Short hair can be really amazing.
I have short hair and model nude, it has never been a problem. When my hair was longer (almost shoulder length) I was always asked to move it away from my face or put it up in a bun.
I spent a year growing it to that length and didn't book a lot of work during that time. I have since cut it and book work more consistently now.
btw, I love your hair. smile

Well, it's fairly obvious that there is a lot of demand for long hair and sometimes (especially for my acting) I do curse my short hair :b but it's a great asset in a way - comes in handy whenever someone's looking for something trendy or edgy... If my main focus/moneymaker was art nude I might think twice before cutting my hair but it isn't, and even then I still get some work in that field... I think my point is, the offer/demand ratio of short hair is pretty good so it works for me... wink

I know a few art models with short hair. I definitely prefer long hair myself. I don't think I'd likely book a bald model, at least for my current project.

I know you're not bald smile But someone mentioned it.

I don't think so... maybe if it's glamour oriented nude work but not art nudes.
