I don't know how the old fans are going to react to that.

Hey! A bit early in the storyline for that!

Didn't happen until "Plato's Stepchildren," IIRC.

Hey, it's about time. The US's perception of the enterprise crew working in space for years where everyone runs all over the known and unknown universe rescuing planetary systems from certain doom and killing the enemy [whoever it might be] with Photon Torpedoes, but where no one ever has [GASP!] sex, has never been known for being reality based. The reality has just got to be something different. So maybe it IS time to get real. Maybe we'll finally find out if Klingons are actually all gay poseurs; and the Borg don't just spend all their time stealing brains... or the contents thereof. Maybe even Vulcans get physical from time to time.

OK, Kirk and Uhura are just a start. Pretty soon we might have the whole crew group groping each other on holodeck generated tropical shores.

I knew all that bickering between McCoy and Spock was a cover up!

When that scene came up in the trailer, I thought I was watching Gossip Girl or some other WB shit for a minute.

I saw the trailer on either on Heroes or Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles. It did get my attention. I think J.J Abrahms was going where the series creator never when before with his characters.

There's always been plenty of romance on Star Trek.  Captain Kirk had plenty of green skinned alien chicks, Spock and Nurse Chapel (Played by Gene Roddenbery's wife) had a thing kinda going on.  Worf was married to... crap, what's her name...  Jadzia Dax until she died and her symbiont was implanted into Ezri, who dated Dr. Bashier.  Picard and Beverly Crusher had a thing going on.

Have I just outed myself as a Star Trek geek?

That's what I mean... kind of screws up the canon.

Wow. You have obviously never watched Star Trek. There was plenty of Kirk hooking up with chicks. Even in Next Generation, you had that Worf/Reiker/Troi lovetriangle and Data getting down with Tasha Yar.

You think there was no sex in Star Trek!? I suggest watching the show before making that assumption.

I prefer the Dohlman of Elas ... Now she was Haute ... my guess is that Kirks 'fling  " with  the Dohlman was a 60's American  attempt at suggesting realtionships could go across the color barrier ( she was Green) - but of course in those times it a white black tryst would have been taboooo

Um... The Dohlman of Elas, one Elaan of Troyius, wasn't green.

Are you thinking of the Orion slave girl(s)?

I was thinking Grey's Anatomy in Space when I saw the clips this past weekend.

The only casting I'm thrilled about is Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson and Makiko Konishi from the Drunken Sword movie.  The rest, eh.  And as much as I love Simon Pegg, casting him to play Scotty just seems wrong.

Sorry I just can't get the old characters out of my head.   I see the big fat Kirk(Shatner) from ST5 laying on top of Ohura (Nichelle Nichols) when I look at that pic.

*runs out of thread to throw up*

Remember Worf complaining to Reiker that the women on the Enterprise were all to 'fragile' for him to fuck lol and the wounds he would get when getting down with Klingon women?
Remember Reiker and the doctor sending Picard to Rigel 7 for  'relaxation' with women as a cure for over work stress?
And what about Kirk sleeping with Uhura ... when the bored but powerful beings who kidnapped them wanted them to do so and watch?

I am disappointed.

When I heard that a new movie was coming out, and it was early in the timeline, I was expecting the people from the Enterprise series.

I thought I remembered an episode when they kissed.  Not sure if they did the nasty..... but everyone knows Kirk liked doing the nasty.

Crap, I forgot about the Data/ Yar bit.  They even made reference to it in First Contact, LOL.

Crap.  I have a copy of Hamlet in Klingon.  It was a... gag gift.  Yeah.  Really.
