I'm very interested in your thoughts on my work.

I Critiqued your work over a year ago in this forum on page 6.  I suppose you have new work since then so Let's see here.
Your portfolio sure has grown and your work has matured.  Although you still look very young, I think you can use that to your advantage, as I see with your the tear sheets.  You have the look of the youthful exhuberance that would do well for juniors commercial work.

I also see that you've tried to get a bit edgy in your work, which may or may not work for you.  If it looks like you're just trying to get get edgy without really emersing yourself totally into it, it'll just look like your trying only.  Unfortunately you have to have a specific mindset to do the edgy work.  You have to have a wild-girl mind set and it's very difficult to get a nice, girl next door type to get the proper look for the edgy work.  If you really want to do that, you'll probably need to lose some of your inhibitions.   I don't know if I'd recommend it, because you're percieved as such a fresh young good girl...however, I understand that this image of you could also stymie your career and keep you from how you really want to be percieved.  On the other hand I'm not sure if you can get into that mentality anyway.  if you've been lucky enough to have grown up in a straight conservative family where you've been sheltered, this might make that mindset almost impossible.

Hi Brittney,
you have some interesting images in your portfolio and seem to be suited well for commercial and maybe glamour type work.  I like that first shot of you which is kind of sexy because of the expressiveness (not overt but subtle).
There are 1 too many of the same face shots in there and I'd recommend removing one and adding more images to your collection.  I'd explore the sexy subtle side more because I just get the feeling you'd be really good at that. Otherwise, put a big smile on your face and work on the commercial side of things...I think you should do well in that area.

Hi Schanae,
You certainly have a very beautiful face with excellent features such as your eyes.  I think what you're missing from your images is the drama that can only be created by expressions made with your eyes.  Watch the America's Next Top Model and examine how Tyra does that with her eyes...she calls it smizing (smiling with your eyes in case you didn't know).  It's very important to do that, otherwise, it's very difficult to make those dramatic images with just what is percieved as straight looks with no expression or not the proper exressions.

Hi Chloe,
I know you're new and you're looking for some direction.  Right now I think the more experience you compile the better.  Learn as much as you can about the modeling basic skills such as posing and expressing yourself.

Right now from what I see, you're just blending in with 99 percent of the people here which in the long run is not a good thing to be noticed.  Learn to create dramatic shots.  Find a great photographer with a lot of experience because doing it with just anyone is going to slow you down a lot.

Since this is kind of like being in movies, to attract people you almost have to be an odd ball.  Just getting some shots that show how hot you are doesn't get you anywhere except to GWCs.  Find a way to stand out and again learn learn learn.

Hi,
You're a nice looking girl and I like the image with the pink wig.  But that's where I stop.  I think you have potential, with good features to do much better, yet you've taken the route of many of the girls here.  Why so?  You're in one of the capitals of fashion and yet, you are doing mostly modeling 101 work.

It's time for you to start thinking out of this box that you're in.  Start being more creative and figure out what you need to excel.  I think that since you the potential to look exotic, I would play the mysterious, ureachable type.  Work with black colors mostly and a lot of corsets.  I think I see you looking really good in 18th century wardrobe.

You have the height but you're 22 already so the big time modeling is probably behind you now.  You can still try (I would) to see if you get into an agency for fashion.  Otherwise, I think you'd do well with artistic/glamour work.

HI Cherise,
You have gorgeous eyes and very nice looks.  I'm a bit disappointed with your portfolio though.  I'm not sure why you don't have more even though you've been modeling for a while.
From what I saw, I really liked the black and white on the bottom of the page and the 3rd image from the left on the 1st row.  It gives you this fresh look which is very nice.
I think you should do more work, especially more editorial type work since you're pretty tall so you should be able to fill the angular poses well.  I think since you're 25, it may be too late for top big times, but I'm sure you can book plenty of local work.
Perhaps there's work in the life styles and commercial areas also open to you.  You seem to take good shots, but there's not enough images for you so that may be a sign that you're not really that into what you're doing.  So just remember, that you get out of it what you put into it.  If modeling is what you love, I'm sure you can find a lot of work but it's not going to just come running to you...you better work hard on it.

At the moment I'm trying to focus on Beauty. However, there are quite a few shots I haven't got back that would be in that category!

I would also love to hear what you think I should do to move towards getting more creative beauty shoots ( & if you have an idea for one... that would be even better wink )

Really hope to hear from you!  smile

I had left this first and see your up and running again! Lol

I've had a LOT of critique since then, removed 8 shots from my portfolio, contacted a lot more photographers, had two hair & beauty shoots this week and just have NOT stopped trying.

Also decided to pay for some acting classes to improve on my poses & expression, I'm taking part in a fashion show on Sunday and I've got better ideas for shoots.. can't wait!

Hi Lynnn,
I didn't see anything in your port out of the ordinary unfortunately.  Yes, you have nice features, but need to be unique in your work.  There's no fire in your eyes and they seem a bit dead.  You look half sleepy in most of the images.  I understand though that this is what a lot of girls think they can get away with in modeling.  I don't know why they think that...but it's a rampant desease.
My suggestion: Got back to the drawing board and get some enthusiasm for what you're doing.  The images should reflect that.  When you're looking somewhere have those eyes focused.  Don't be a pretender.  Get dramatic and make it have some impact.  If you're going to do this do it with all the entuusiasm and energy that you can.  Otherwise don't do it because it doesn't buy you anything.

Hi Paige,
Sorry but your work is mostly nude.  I'm not going to say much but I will say this that nude or not you need a lot of work on your posing and expressions.  Basically what you have is someone naked who's just laying or standing around.  The milk stuff doesn't do a thing either for you.  It's way too contrived.  What it makes someone think is : Why is she doing that?

Hi Brittany,
You need to go and look at the work of all the successful models on here and then look at your work.  You'll see a lot of disparity.  Now, if you're just satisified with being mediocre, it's one thing, but to get quality results means to study your subject well and find ways to not only fit yourself in the upper crust (top 20 percent in terms of success) by the quality of work you do, but always strive to achieve above the upper crust.  Never be happy with your work otherwise you'll never achieve.

you're a pretty girl, but that's where it stops.  Need to learn how to create dramatic poses (that also look good for you) and match your expressions to the poses.  Also make sure youre wardrobe and makeup match everything else.  Get the best photographers that you can afford and show quality work in every image.

Hi Lola,
I see potential in you to pose well naturally but it's a long road ahead of you.  Need to develope it to a more dramatic point.   You have hair and face that if madeover properly you can look like some of the old hollywood starlets, especially Monroe and Jayne Mansfield.  Use your eyes a lot in your closeups with good eye contact.  Make sure your eyes are very focused.  Nothing will bring you down as dead eyes.  On full length shots your body will have to create the drama that your eyes can't.  So the idea is that you always show something that creates interest,  drawing viewers to you.

I would love to hear your thoughts:)

Hi Andrea,
you're 5'1", right?  So unfortunately the camera can be pretty brutal to you since it likes long limbs.  For someone like you who wants to be a model it's doubly important to pose correctly to show yourelf as tall as possible.  This means:
1) don't show yourself facing flat into the camera because your width will bring your height down
2) don't squat......ever!
3) don't sit with your knees facing the camera.  The knees will look like they're coming out of your stomach which is is not very complimentary to you.
4) if you're going to sit somewhere be sure to be at the edge of the seat or draw your knees up so that your thighs don't flatten.

Furthermore, for you:
1) don't look at the camera directly unless you're doing a headshot
2) smile with your eyes rather than with your whole face.
3) learn to be dramatic in your work.  Modeling is like acting...you have create illusions.

Hi Jessica,
you have the attitude in your images that is good for commercial work which you say you want to do.  That's great.  You do have the looks to do well in the commercial areas and should stick to that area.
I think however, one of the things missing from your images is big smiles.  Smiles are very important for commercial work unlike fashion.  You need to have very photogenic smiles.  So that is about the only area that I see you needing work on.

Hi Lapis,
How serious are you as a model when you've got just a handfull of images taken for going about 10 months.  You should have more of your work displayed and if I'm not mistaking, I've seen all of them before which means not much work in a while.

You have an interesting face that you can get some expressiveness out of potentially.  But it seems that you're one of those that just goes for the point and shoot images.  There's no rhyme or reason for any of your shots.  They're basically candids.

If you are going to be serious about your work, you better do something about it.  Like everything else that you really want to do well in, it takes effort and thusfar, I don't see a lot of that.

HI Chryah,
I'm not in the mood to look at all these pages for you either smile.  Anyway, you have looks similar to angelica huston.  I'm not sure if anyone's ever told you that.  You have potential to take really nice shots as I see in several of your images, but you also have potential for disastrous images as I saw in your portfolio.
You should probably remove that little blurb about "runway work, ideally in glamour, high fashion, and/or editorial styles"  Because first of all glamour models don't do runway, and high fashion and editorials last until the model is about 22 years old.  Now perhaps you maybe talking locally and I'm sure you can find that, but in the big markets, there's no chance of that unless you're a well estblished super model.
Glamour is where you should be heading right now and perhaps commercial work.  I think you can do well with the old hollywood star type glamour shots.  I think you have what it takes for that.   The one thing I see you have going for you is an understated sexiness which is great to have for glamour.  I think you should go that way and feel you'd do great in it.  Again though, it should be understated or subtle.

Hi Erika,
finally I come to critique someone who does fit the fashion genre perfectly.  I feel that you have the looks, including hair, face, height, proper expressions, and posing to do well.  You should feel pretty lucky that all of those have come to you and that you're not old.  At 19, you better get out there because otherwise you're wasting your time.  You're ready to go as a fashion/editorial model.  In fact, I think you're perfect for it and have what's called the x-factor.  Get over to NY or maybe France or Millan and see if you can just walk into an agency and get picked immediately.  I wish you the best and would have enjoyed photographing you if you were local.

Hi Dan,
You've done very well for someone 44 years old.  You have the looks to probably get local work for commercial work and I'm sure you can get lots of catalog work especially for the mature line of clothing.  I think you should work hard to get as many commercial jobs as possible as those are also the best paying modeling jobs.
I think you should improve the quality of some of your images and get more that are less grainy (like the one next to the whit wall).
Keep working at it but start looking into the jobs now and don't wait too long.
