I'm 5'3".  I get a teeny bit of work.  I'm not looking to travel with my modeling or anything.  I enjoy it a lot so I take what comes along, but don't stress out if the job's aren't offered, I'm not fooling myself - tall models book more work, its a fact of life.

I'm 5'4.. I've gotten paid work from doing promotions or from more revealing shoots.  Pretty much at our height, fashion is completely out of the question... which is where all the moneys at.  You have to either pose nude or start doing some promo work (which doesnt normally consist of shoots) if you stand below 5'7 at best.  Or be a celebrity!!   Good luck!  wink

I am only 5 feet, 95 lbs. and I am a professional actor/model/voice over talent. Professional, meaning, I have booked jobs with PAY and the gigs have been worldwide, regional, and local. I didn't take any clothes off, in fact, I actually maintain a commercial, girl-next-door, wholesome look or image. My last most recent gig was for Siemens, worldwide distribution. So, that was a very, very good project I have been given the opportunity to be one of the models (and of course, the shortest in the bunch, too). :-)

5'6" and discovered you need to find your own niche if your short. Which I did, it's fun. I do get paid 50% of the time while the rest of the time is tfp and charity work. The genres I'm focusing on is beauty work (commercial and editorial), modeling commercial clothing and a little bit of runway because it looks fun and I'm suddenly being put in shows now and the girls I'm walking down with are 5'7"-5'11". Plus the fact that I appear taller in person and in photos because of how I'm proportioned helped (by 1 inch) and made a difference for the show I'm doing in 5 months.

If you can express yourself well, find a respectful, experienced male model and do couples shoots. Just a thought!

I'm somewhere between 5'1" and 5'3". Paid jobs are starting to come in very slowly, but I think they'll pick up. I plan to travel all next year starting this August.

5'0. I've shot fetish in the past, and got paid. Now I don't shoot as much due to lack of time but when I do, it's nudes and burlesque/pin-up.

I'm 5 3. I have found paid work in nude, lingerie/glamour, fetish/bondage, and I also do lifestyle/commercial shoots.

I'm 5'7, which is still considered short.

I freelance model. I've walked in a fashion-show, been in a magazine, gotten paid, etc.

5'5.

Walked in a few small fashion shows, publications, and have gotten paid work (mainly for nudes, but some clothed as well.)

It's easier as an alternative model...a LOT of alt models are actually tiny.

I'll never be agency signed, partly due to my tattoos, partly due to the fact that even for commercial print modeling you have to be a certain height, but I don't really care at this point.

5 footer here. Get paid mainly for nudes and sometimes for clothed when it involves the costumes I have.

Just because the OP is no longer here doesn't mean the information isn't relevant and helpful to other short models. Last time I checked, there were a LOT of us shorties!

I'm not as short, but I will admit that I ever-so-greatly admire the height of 5'10" models.

I am 4'11" and never did I think I could llama for anything. I have done pin-up, swimwear, boudoir, nudes and art class - clothed and nude.  I Have also done 2 fashion shows for local clothing stores.  I have to say - all of the experiences have not been paid except for the art class. I have gotten TF/TFCD in all other occassions. I hope to get some paid work soon..though this is more of a hobby/part time experience for me.  I don't mind nudes...I prefer them actually. It does, however, depend on the project. You can pose sensually without being pornographic.

I would love to pose for lingerie and wedding dresses for petite/curvy women.

So much to learn, so many things I want to try.

I did a shoot with a 5'2 model, and it doesnt change nothing for me, it was perfect, she did her own makeup, wardrobe, accessories, she pose well, cant ask for more.

And she dont have to do nudes for compensating her height.

Models are beyond the sizes. It is about posing, expressions, creativity. Beauty is not about tall or small, is about proportions. And, many times I choose models not because their beauty, rather than know they are reliable, on time, friendly, easy going and know how keep it professional. Some tall and beauty models are a nightmare, because are divas...

Don't ask how pretty you are of if you breast are too small. Ask yourself if you can give 100 poses in a minute like Coco Rocha. Ask if you can play with your eyes and delivery many facial expression. Ask if you can isolated your body parts...

Act like a model, think like a photographer.
Do you have nice props? You have great dresses?
Do you understand fashion, catalog, and commercial poses?
Do you have a background in dance, martial arts?
Do you bring positive energy to the set?
Are you a team player?

Best,

I'm 5'5, and don't really have many problems finding paid gigs. I find that I mainly do bikini, lingerie, and ballet these days, but I've also done high fashion, religious fashion, and runway before, as well.

lol This is very true, but the odds were heavily stacked against me.
I'm short, I change my hair as often as I change my shoes, I'm moderately tattooed, I have gauged ears, I have piercings... But hey... at least I shoot nudes big_smile

I'm hoping to hear from shorter female models, have you still been able to get work as a model despite not being as tall as the ideal model? Which areas have you found work in? Swimwear, lingerie, fine art, sports fashion? I'm curious to know so I can focus on areas I have a chance in!

Unless you are willing to do nude work then good luck getting paid work. I've been on here for roughly 3-4 months, I'm here EVERY DAY, and STILL haven't had a single paid gig that didn't include nudity. It's bs. I apply to all the casting calls that I can find and still---nothing..... If you have better luck, lmk what you figure out. I'm tired of waiting table.

You've only been here 3 or 4 months. Wait it out, build a super strong, versatile portfolio.

I am a little over 5'3" and I model. I don't shoot nudes and I never will. Some people will tell you that being so small that's all you can do. But it's not true. I have only had one agency interested in me but they wanted me to change things I wasn't willing to change about myself. I do freelance modeling now and I go where photographers or companies want me. I have fun with it. I love fashion and I love to prove that petite models can do fashion modeling.  smile

I'm 5'3.  I mostly shoot nudes;  I get paid all the time when I model for artists/art schools.  I get paid for a lot of shoots, too.  I really don't want to pose nude for free, unless it's a really good photographer...

I would love to do hair and make-up modeling, or hat/jewelry modeling;  I can't imagine height mattering when it comes to that sort of thing.

I haven't paid a single dollar for the development of my portfolio..which is good considering my friends who are agency represented have paid thousands for theirs when they started out.

I'm lucky to get a good range of things. Of course, not being restricted and willing to do nudes really helps me. I get hair, makeup/beauty, nude, even fashion shoots. I don't know what I was aiming for really, so I kind of made myself the most well rounded model possible. Of course fashion is not something I am highly considered for, but I do get enough of it, considering I am only 5"4.5

You just need to figure out your strengths and weaknesses, and go from there.
