In a recent shoot with a model, she brought to my attention that many photographers reject her as a model because she refuses to grow pubic hair.

Is there really such a demand for models with pubes? I personally prefer to shoot models in nude shoots without or with a tidy landing strip as opposed to a big bush.

Is it really in such demand for models with pubes?

If you are a neatly shaved woman, and a photographer wanted to shoot you with pubes, would you grow it out, or just not fit into that particular mold?

Doubtful there is a large demand for pubes.
Usually you'll find the ominous "bush" mainly in fine
art types of nudes. Then again to each their own. Some like it.
Others don't.

Glamour and porn = shaved
Art = trimmed bush, full bush, something to cover it up.

I'll still work with models on a trade for basis without.  I just won't give them my money anymore.

Some people see "art."  I see pussy.  Very difficult seeing otherwise.

The Pubic Option is being hotly debated in the Senate as we speak. Lets hold off until our "leaders" decide what is best for each and everyone of us.

I used to have a huge, 70s-porn-esque style going on.  You know how people who like bush frequently end their statements with things like "as long as it's not a jungle" and "as long as it's not crazy or anything"?  I was the crazy jungle chick down there.  I had some photographers hire me for my body hair, and some choose not to.  However, it was never an issue regarding my ability to land a decent number of shoots.

As an aside, today I model very rarely, and I no longer grow a crotch 'fro.  I'd grow it again for a large chunk of money (maybe 500 or more).

Models that shoot art nudes tend to go with a bush. Photographers that shoot art nudes tend to prefer a bush. It makes the image more timeless...more natural. Glamour models tend to go with the smooth look or something tiny and tidy. It really depends on the type of nudes you are creating.

i just don't think shaved is a good look! honestly I don't know how it caught on, there has to be at least a landing strip, preferably more substantial than an eyebrow!

I can see "art" in shaved, trimmed bush, and huge bush.  I have preferences for different projects; none of which I would consider glamour or porn.

That's my take on it, for what it's worth.

I'll still hire women who shave, but I always prefer a natural look first.  You can't glue the hair back on and still have it look nice...

Personally, I don't care for pubic hair but if they do have it it's not going to keep me from doing the shoot as long as it works with the concept and all are happy.

Meh, I got bored of the bald cooch look. It was cool when no one did it, but now it's all you see, so when a chick has a trimmed bush, it's way more interesting to me since it seems to be a rarity.

Bush style probably works the same as any style I'd guess.

If she's figured out how to refuse to grow it, she should let a lot of others into the trick to doing that, as a lot of people would save time and money shaving, sugaring, and waxing.

I am picturing a conversation like...

Hey you pubes, if you grow back, I'm gonna beat you!!!

Back to the OP, there are lots of criteria for selecting models, and this is just one more of those things that matters in some styles of photography, and ultimately it is a personal decision about what to do, or what not to do.

The photographers, my boyfriend and I are all very happy about the bush I have.

As others have mentioned, a lot of the demand depends on what style you shoot.

Most art shooters I've met prefer trimmed to bushy. A naked vulva makes it more difficult to leave out the sexual context it seems.

i was alittle shocked by this, so i had to ask the fine art nude photographer that i assist for.  He claimed he liked a more trimmed look than an overall full grown bush due to shadows ect within his low light situations.
Then as he walked down the hall he blurted this out

"if you let a womans vagina dictate what kinda picture you take then well you were owned along time ago"

If a photographer came to me and wanted to do a bushy shoot and it was a neat idea, I probably wouldn't mind growing it out a bit, then trimming it neat. No full bush lol. Otherwise, I prefer to keep myself bare.

You know... We all limit ourselves

You can shave for a photographer that that wants it shaved and you can grow it out for those who want a bush.

Number 1 rule, You cannot please everyone, you are gaining work by some and losing work from others and you won't even know it.

I actually seek models out that have Pubic Hair since I like to shoot Art Nudes.  I do think that It makes the image more timeless...more natural.  Along the same line, I also prefer model that do not have tattoos when shooting Art Nudes for the same reasons.

Of course that is just my preference and opinion.

Bare scares me.  At that, bare scares my husband.  He's got this no minors thing, and doesn't want to have to have me sign a statement and photocopy my ID before all interactions.

I use a trimmer with a #3 attachment for length and do the mini triangle.  I trim the top as well as the sides.

I seriously hate the long look -the landing strip that fills to the top of the panty line.   It's getting dated.  If you're going to go thin, you also need to shorten it up to keep it more proportionate to what it would be were it natural.  Otherwise it's too 1991 porn.

You know, i've also had photographers ask me if I could grow mine out, which I politely decline. Yes I am a woman with dreadlocks, but on my head is the only place I like having hair. Does anyone realize what it feels like to a shaved woman to let the hair grow out? Completely horrible.

Um... How you choose to groom yourself is your choice... however, just because you have pubic hair does not necessarily mean you or over the age of 18 and also, I have met a few models that don't have pubic hair and they ARE 18+ and no, they do not shave.

As well shaving pubic hair dates back before porn.. as we all know.. porn in the 60s and 70s and even 80s there was full bush... not even trimmed.

Art nudes had shaved pubic hair in the past as well. http://www.fisheseye.com/images/artnude300.jpg and http://www.omolimages.co.uk/rims/L/ItemL/0307.jpg

It's definitely a personal choice, but I myself prefer to see a  very close trim over a shave.  As with everything human, some look better than others, so the physiology and the model's lifestyle are more important than my opinion.

I have not chosen to shoot or not shoot based on this factor.

Fun! It seems there are as many opinions on the subject as there are pubic hairs big_smile

So, how do you groom?

yes.

there is also a demand for those shooting lifestyle, plus size, erotic and about a few dozen other genres.  is there a problem with finding those that fit what it is you want?  or is it merely a fantasy to get what you can't get from those you covet?

i'm baffled as to what the real problem is that compels the discussion.

It's about versatility, and genre.

She's probably not getting rejected from glamour shoots.  Fine art nude shoots?  It comes with the territory.  A lot of people won't shoot art nudes with someone who shaves because they want their images to be natural and timeless.

Pubes are pretty timeless.

Shaving might be of the time, now, but are natural, and many people keep theirs.  Especially men.

That said, someone who is willing to do either or will get a lot of work.

Someone who shaves might get rejected from certain shoots; that person should realize their limitations.

I'm certainly not running around trying to book work as a swim suit model and complaining that people should be forced to deal with my full bush poking out everywhere.

I'm a natural redhead.  Most photographers are delighted when they see that my carpet does, infact match my drapes.  I keep it tidy-like but would only go totally bald for some serious $$$.
It's too itchy and annoying when it grows back.
