Photographers disappearing the eve before a shoot
Hi All, Just wanted to get some advice from you all as this isnt the first time ive suffered this problem I have a shoot booked tomorrow, all arrangements have been made etc and i wanted to fully confirm today that all is still ok with the photographer and guess what .... No response via email, via the forums he is on or telephone How long now should I leave this before i take it as a cancellation or should I still travel incase he is there as organised? and if he isnt there charge him for the travel fees? I really dont know what to do , Maybe he has no internet connection or something Sep 16 10 10:48 am Link He may be on a shoot all day on location??? Sep 16 10 10:49 am Link Show up. And if he doesn't show, send him a bill. Sep 16 10 10:50 am Link Whats the chances of him every paying the bill though lol Sep 16 10 10:58 am Link Heather_Michelle wrote: 0 to be honest Sep 16 10 10:58 am Link __dq__ wrote: Wrong! I've had a success rate of about 30% when I send a bill to a flakey photographer. Sep 16 10 11:13 am Link Christie Gabriel wrote: That's a shame! It's hard to believe that a photographer would flake on you! Sep 16 10 11:15 am Link welcome to the photographer's world. Most times if there is no contact before you leave in morning there will be a no show. I always go anyways because there is the occasional person show up Sep 16 10 11:19 am Link I have the same thing but with a model, I have a back up and two other models are coming anyway. But I am actualy worried about her, I honestly belive she would not flake, I have worked with her before, and kept contact. She has not been on mm for a week which is most unusual, I have tried all communication, nothing. So OP, you never know, if I had no contact the day of shoot then I would say he is not going to turn up, hopefully my model will contact me tomorrow. Sep 16 10 11:20 am Link for what its worth I checked your port out and I believe he would being losing out a great shoot if he did not show. Sep 16 10 11:23 am Link One of the models I that am shooting tomorrow contacted me yesterday. I promptly answered her PM. I have never flaked! Sep 16 10 11:26 am Link Heather_Michelle wrote: I like saving myself the headache...no communication beforehand, no shoot. It's that simple. Like other's said, have a plan B ready if you're still going to travel. Sep 16 10 11:30 am Link You could have intimidated him and scared him off. But he owes you money or a shoot. Can you submit a CAM so we'll have record of who this is? Sep 16 10 11:34 am Link Greg Cobb Photography wrote: Why should she submit a CAM? MM doesn't get involved in outside conflicts. Sep 16 10 11:39 am Link Heather_Michelle wrote: To be honest ive never heard of a photogrpaher backing out. But ive heard of so many GWC that it doesnt suprise me at all. Ive had the same problems with the models. No call, No Show..Or Call them the night before and they wont answer by phone, email or txt..Then they TXT you one hour before the shoot claiming they had to go out of town cause there mother was in a major car accident. Only problem with that is that ive heard this same story from 10 other models. Good thing i use PayPal and always get Deposits on my shoots so i wasnt out a full day shoot. Or they send me an email or a TXT a week after they were supposed to shoot and say things like. Im in the Emergency room and in Rehab as we speak. Im really sick and i hope we can reschedule. And my favorite Excuse of all times was i drove to the location and i couldnt find it and my tan wasnt perfect so i have to rescedule when it looks perfect. So i went home. Then you see there portfolio 2 days later with new photos from a shoot she did for free with a GWC.. (GUY WITH CAMERA..)And believe me it shows.Texas models are really good at this. I managed to locate an alternative contact number for him and the shoot went ahead today and OMG im so glad it did cause hes amazing He hadnt picked up my emails for some strange reason will be posting pics soon Sep 17 10 11:05 am Link Heather_Michelle wrote: I can't speak how others do it. But if I don't hear a confirmation by the model from the day before, I pretty much consider the shoot the next day a wash & start making other plans. Sep 17 10 11:29 am Link If you had arranged and planned a confirmation call the day before and go nothing that's one thing - it indicates not sticking to the plan. If there were no such arrangement all you could really do is show up on time. If you had took his unavailability to you the day prior as a cancellation (when he was not responsible for being available to you) and not shown up and he did - you are the flake. I tell people i'm planning things with to call the day before to confirm and the day of and/or as soon as their plans have to change. So, if they don't call like I asked them to, I can safely suspect something is wrong. Sep 17 10 12:09 pm Link I recently had someone decide that because I didn't answer her email right away, that the event was cancelled so she didn't show up. Nevermind that I was on the run ALL day and didn't even look at the computer. I was PISSED that she flaked on me, as I was counting on HER at least to be the one person I didn't have to chase after...but of course it was MY fault. :sigh: Not dealing with her again. If you book something, SHOW UP FOR IT. Thinking its cancelled because you can't confirm the day before this is a good way to put me into a rage. If it was cancelled, I would be SURE to tell you. To me this is as bad as a no-call no-show flake because it shows a stunning lack of logic and cognitive skills and thinking ability. It only going to cost you postage and trouble. Will you pay if I send you a bill? Sep 17 10 04:00 pm Link Glad to hear everything worked out. Sep 17 10 04:24 pm Link OP, glad things worked out. I often book models traveling through the area I generally hear from them about a week or so before the shoot to make sure everything is still on. I will contact them the night before if they request it. Otherwise I expect that they'll be where they said they would, and so far they always have been re: this; Greg Cobb Photography wrote: Should photographers be camming the models that flake as well or is this only something models are supposed to do?!? Sep 17 10 04:35 pm Link Lumigraphics wrote: sorry but this entirely depends on whether I've worked with someone before or they come with platinum reccomendations from my friends. Today I have access to my email via blackberry...also my facebook, modelmayhem, the Internet and I have cell use. There's NO excuse, minus being dead for not checking in if asked to prior to a shoot. As a matter of fact, I'm changing models for tomorrow's shoot because the model I'd hired promised a call today to re-confirm. I can't afford to have 10 guys sitting twiddling their thumbs at a workshop because some model doesn't have the decency to return a phone call or send a quick email.
