I recently did my first nude shoot and I had all of the fears and doubts that go along with it, It was pretty much the nerves about taking off my clothes in front of someone I didn't know and have him take everlasting pictures of me and my penis.

But it was something I had always wanted to do, so I just went over there and did it, and when the time came to be naked and take pictures I was good, smiling and being my lively self. The worst part was everything right before actually being naked. The shoot turned out good and I am looking to do it again because it is something I enjoyed and can get better at.

I want to know what are some of your thoughts, worries, expectations and experiences right before and during that first nude shoot. I especially want to know what you are thinking if you've never done it and have one scheduled soon.

I cant imagine it is an easy thing to do as a model.

As a photographer the first time I did a nude shoot I was sooooo nervous.

-nervous that I would not be able to make the model feel comfortable
-nervous I would stare too much
-nervous that I wouldnt look enough and have the model think I was repulsed by her
-nervous that the pictures would come out crappy and I would seem like a GWC

about a million other things had my nerves a mess.  The model picked up on it and told me to relax.

You get over it and eventually will have fun!

Mine happened in the locker room. I was cool with everything until the women started yelling for security.

Sleepy weasel! Naughty!

My first photo shoot was nude. Then again, I'm an old lady in modeling terms and established in my career. My response was SQuEee!

Better to do it now then when you are my age, for a variety of reasons.

I'm naked a lot so it went pretty much the same way other shoots went.
I did my first nude shoot with someone I'd shot with a lot already, though.

I guess she had done it before, could of been a disaster if she hadn't done it before!

My first shoot ever was a nude shoot. A random guy approached me in a bar, told me he thought I would fit his photography project theme, and asked if I wanted to shoot art nudes. He had a business card, and legit portfolio. I didn't really know what to expect from it, so I had no expectations. It was fun, and was the first time I had ever been photographed as an adult (not kid school pictures). Obviously, it became a repeat theme in my life.

I did some nude modeling before I turned to photography. My first experience was fun and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I wasn't nervous at all.

I love being nude, so it was a fun excuse to parade around and be free, naked and have fun. Of course, I had a respectful, fantastic photographer doing the shoot. smile

as a photographer the first nude i shot 20+ years ago had a purpose for making the image say something other than just the nudity.  i've tried to follow that formula since.  having a model standing there naked does not a compelling image make.

because of that, when viewing nudity it's the first thing i look for.  what is the image saying mentally, not visually.  i'm far more impressed with the statement a nude can make than just the fact the person is nude.

Funny you should ask! Many, many, many years ago I was a young college student, and by definition, poor! I came to the decision  that I wanted to become an artists' model to make extra cash! I was scared shitless! What had I gotten myself into?

Anyway, long story short. I got over my fear and went through with it. I ended up modeling for extra cash during my entire stay in college and beyond for a few years.

Photographers take note: if you have someone who is posing nude for you and has been doing so for awhile, you are dealing with a VERY confident person, NOT ARROGANT, NOT STUCK ON THEMSELF, but very, very confident. This confidence comes not from having decided to pose but from putting oneself out there, exposed in every sense of the word, and learning that if you can survive that, you can survive anything. It's very empowering, intoxicating and gives you a sense of control.

If you, as a photographer think that you are the one in control of a shoot you are sadly mistaken regardless your level of experience and the only way to know if what I'm saying is true is to try it yourself.

I have the utmost respect and appreciation for ANY model who poses nude, especially those who have done it for some length of time

I am seriously considering being an art model. I did the shoot as a way of empowering myself and see how I would handle it.

My first nude shoot was with a very uninhibited, beautiful model who was open to pretty much anything smile My second nude shoot was a Bachelor party with about 10 - 15 strippers. There was S&M, girl-girl action and a couple of strippers even engaged in a n "Eyes Wide Shut" style gang bang with some of male patrons.

So I must say, yeah, both were pretty memorable.

Mine have run the gamut. One model wanted to practice for possible nude work and asked me to PLEASE shoot her naked because we'd shot before, and she was comfortable with me. (Difficult to say no to that.)

The other extreme was a new model who was pretty open to shooting different styles, but as more clothes came off, she started getting very agitated. I stopped it short and drove her home, saying soothing/casual things the whole time.

And everything in between, including one model who said she hadn't modeled nude before and was about the most comfortable, uninhibited, and playful in her skin that I've ever met.

The first girl didn't shoot naked for other people's projects, I don't think. She enjoyed it - we ended up doing a couple more - but her life soon took a different turn that didn't include public nudity. I buried all the provocative photos I had that included her face. The second girl, I'd be surprised if she modeled again. She was very upset, and I still feel terrible about it.

I've shot with several models who told me about "bad first experiences."  I'm as impressed as could be that they were willing to take the risk of doing it again, and naturally, honored that they chose me.

The first time I shot nudes, the model was quite experienced, and we were out in the woods.  Other than a jogger coming by, it was pretty uneventful.  I didn't feel nervous, didn't do anything stupid, and she said I was fine. Averaged about one nude shoot a week for over three years since then, and no interest in stopping.

I am shooting  a model this wekend whom I have shot several times before. She did her first nude shoot with me. The last time we shot, she sat down for a break. I was changing lenses or something and she looked at me and said, "Remember how scared I was the first time we shot? Now look at me. I'm sitting here naked eating crackers and peanut butter."
It gets easier as you go I guess but I'm not sure I'd want to be in the models position. I think it takes a special person to get us the shot we're looking for.

My first was a woman in her forties, a friend.  We were both a bit nervous at first, but that went away pretty quickly.  Afterward we stood around talking for a half-hour or so before I could convince her to put her clothes back on.

My second was a male that I didn't know who didn't seem to believe there were any poses that didn't involve spreads.  Had a couple more males who never got past nervous (One only managed one pose, two frames, before he chickened out.) which kinda led me to only shoot nudes with women.  (They're cuter anyway.)

I truly love it when I'm shooting a young woman who know how beautiful she really is and who revels in it, and that goes for those who are not all that perfectly endowed.  It's the reveling in it that makes them beautiful, I think.  On the other end of the scale are the ones who don't really like posing nude, who are doing it only for the money or because someone is pushing them to, who don't have that spark.  Those are just kinda sad, IMHO.
