Okay, so I schedule a shoot with a model. I give them the option between outdoors and indoors/studio, and they choose outdoors.  We talk constantly between when we book, and the shoot date. I can't stress enough- it's cold- bring warm clothes. Sweaters. Jackets. Jeans. WARM stuff.

model shows, it's 30 degrees. She's got nothing but short sleeved stuff, dresses and very thin sweaters. She freezes; shoot is short, and she looks miserable the entire time.

and I feel terrible, they drove 2  hours... for not a lot sad

WHY do people do this? WHY?

Because they're dumb.

But seriously, I wouldn't feel bad. You told her to bring warm stuff and she ignored you. It's her own fault.

I know... but i still feel bad. She was lovely, pretty- and so nice to work with. I just don't have any worthwhile shots to give her. It's heartbreaking.

Exactly. I kept asking her to make sure too- I think she thought she was going to be okay. Or assumed she would be- but it just didn't work ;(

I can only guess that she wanted to make certain her nipples were hard.

Some people are overly optimistic about these scenarios. I learned the hard way that as much as I WANT to be one of the models who can tough it out in the cold or heat like a champ and still look good- it DOES affect the quality of my work.

I'm hoping it was an honest misjudgment on her part and she'll learn from the experience.

Does she know this yet?
I'd at least give her 1-2 shots even if you don't like them.

So the entire day wasn't a waste. You never know, she might like them.
If not you can ask her if she wants to re-shoot and this time actually bring proper clothing.

I think we both just kinda know. I'm still sending her the regular amount of pics- whether or not she wants to use them is up to her. Now, i'm working on the wedding that I shot this morning. Such a cute couple !

I canceled an outdoor shoot that way
note the model was extremely covert
but the temperature was around 0°F (-30°C) and windy

If she hadn'tve drove 2+ hours, I probably would have too. I sent her the first few shots, she was all "I don't like these numbers.." and i'm all- neither do i! At least i'll give her some though, she can make a decision from there.

Excitement and anticipation overwhelmed practicality. Hope and vision washed away reality. Yeah, as if any of us ever acted that way.

The shoot is what it is. Take the images you have and make the narrative of the images be about the reality of the situation, rather than concept you had. Just a suggestion, wtfdik?

I never go in with a concept- i just go out and have a good time. As said, this isn't the first time it's happened to me- it's usually with the snow on the ground too- and I feel bad. Usually people are local- this girl had to drive a few hours to get to me. In the past, I never had the option for a studio. Now, I do. I never like giving ANYONE photos i'm not happy with.
