UPDATE: July/August 2015 NYC Meeting MM's NYC Cabal "Summer of All Summers 10 Years Anniversary Bash!" Given the difficulty to get everybody together at the same time, let's poll current, ex.- and even "banned" MMers for the day of the week, most can come together. Please, follow the link above to FB and select TWO days of the week... for July or August, so that we can reach as many people as possible. The days that collect the most votes will be used. Location: TBA ###################################################################################### MM's NYC Cabal (on Facebook) Description: "Model Mayhem's New York City Cabal is a meeting place for MM'ers that live in the metropolitan area of NYC or close enough to be able to participate in the occasional meeting to have a beer a herbal tea, to talk shop in person and organize group meetings to hang out and socialize." ###################################################################################### January 21, New York City: Inofficial Model Mayhem Meetup On Facebook: January 21, New York City: Inofficial MM Meet & Greet At The Pink Pony 176 Ludlow St, New York, New York 10002 (212) 253-1922 7 PM EST until the memory card is full! On MM Events: January 21, New York City's 1st MM Party of 2013 ###################################################################################### ===================================================== So, I have been contacted by MM'ers in OT or PM regarding getting together and hanging out. We used to have events like that many years ago, a few times a year, and because there are so many shooters, models, MUA's, stylists etc. specifically in the NYC metropolitan area and those were always a great deal of fun. I haven't seen those and checked with some other old timers and they told me that it's almost impossible to organize such events, because the administration put some new rules about events into place and those are disappearing so fast that nobody is able to see those and to get organized. Don't know the whole story yet... but, considering the great community that we had, were me met anybody from Brian Diaz, to Stephen Bodi, Ched Beckwith, Nemi Bea, Mark, to name just a small selection that comes immediately to my mind to network, having a few beers and just shooting the crap... Does anybody have an idea how we can get organized for a meetup, without violating MM's Rules&Regs? I mean... if there is any interest beyond the four people that have contacted me... Maybe set up a separate page on meetup.com? I'd be down.

Not sure what's so complicated about the MM rules on Events. I used to host one every Monday night with pretty good success, and those rules have not changed. Granted I had free access to the space (cafe) and attendance varied from 6-35 people each week. If I had time to host another one, I wouldn't do it on a weekly basis though. It becomes routine after a while.

I'll think of something... maybe a meetup.com group... But, there are already 35 MM'ers signed up and the numbers are rising... goes pretty quick... Meetup.com charges for the group... just tried to create one... so, we are going to stay on FB and will post on MM Event forum when we organize something with a definite date.

Just start a thread in "Events" when the first event is organized, then bump it ahead of the next one. I made a point of keeping mine on the first page and it worked pretty well. Nah... got a different solution... well... not totally different. I intent the FB group to be something where people can either loosely organize a get together, or a larger event... Once we organize a larger MM event on FB and set a date, we will make a post in the MM Event Section with an official announcement of that unofficial MM member's get together... This way, we can have a permanent group and just crossposting... it's better for the community... You'll see...

That makes the most sense to me, but I have to admit that as a 75-year old non-drinker, who only shoots trade, and who tends to be uncomfortable in this sort of group situation, I'm not sure that I'd be comfortable participating. That said, I think it's a terrific idea but I'm not at all sure how well it can work, given that there is such a wide range of experience, skill and interest sets on MM, especially in the New York area. And the sheer potential size of such a group is somewhat staggering. With a base population of over 50,000 members within a 50 mile radius, the problem is less one of if the effort fails than one of if it succeeds. I can't imagine renting Yankee stadium for an informal get-together! Although some of that might be resolved by forming separate special interest groups, one for fashion, one for art, one for fetish, etc. but then there are already a number of such meet-up groups around town and unless there were some sort of steering committee pulling them together around the central theme of MM, (which I'd imagine, would be kinda like herding cats) they would lose sight of the original purpose in short order. Another stumbling block would be the divide between those who do this for fun and those who do it for pay. I have tried a couple of model/photographer meetups but found that this schism developed pretty quickly, which killed what interest I had. It apparently killed what interest the others had as well because they seemed to die after the first few meetings only to be replaced by other, similar groups. I'm not trying to be the Grinch here--I do think it would be a very valuable and fun thing to have, especially for the newcomers, but it would also be hard to get rolling and to keep rolling. All IMHO, as always.

All IMHO, as always. It's totally not that complicated. We would set a time and date that worked for most people, and take over a restaurant or a bar. Sometimes we'd have a space reserved for us, sometimes we would just invade in droves sporting MM t shirts to find each other It worked.

Why can't someone just suggest a place and just go to it without a big production and trailer.

Im not joining that fb thing. I dont want people connected to me on there. I keep mm and fb separate. Not everyone has a business and personal fb. I will follow this thread. i dont leave my place much anyways though, but it might be fun to do this. Im out east on Long Island though.

It's simple and not complicated at all... and it's not some "interest group" thing, Ray, it's for MM'ers of all ability, experience etc., to come out... hang, talk, meet, socialize, have fun without pressure. Used to be great fun... people hooked up for photoshoots..., organized shoot-outs as a group... good friendships and camaraderie built up and also a lot of professional networks were established where pros were shooting each other job assignments they couldn't do... As I said on FB, in a reply to Nemi, it's getting back to the roots of being a community.

Jules NYC wrote: Why can't someone just suggest a place and just go to it without a big production and trailer. That's the thing... it's about just suggesting, but it's also supposed to be a permanent/occasional forum where people can adhoc suggest a dive bar and three or five people show up... because they are connected on FB via that group. Then there is the bigger unofficial MM event, which will be organized from there, and then an official event announcement is done on the MM Event section and the link should be posted in this thread! (you should subscribe to this thread, so you won't get lost)... This should work for the FB boycotting crowd...

We could set up an offsite bulletin board or forum agnostic of any social networks or other membership sites. Say the word and it's done.
