What's that one thing that was super popular that you never "got"?

Be it music, movies, television, games, sports, etc...

What is it that just never moved you in either way?

For the life of me, I never got into Star Wars.

I went to see it at the Drive In theater when I was 7 and fell asleep.

That was 35 years ago, and I still have not seen the first movie all the way through!

Just doesn't interest me...

Grunge. The 90's sucked for music. Cobain is not a god.

"Napoleon Dynamite"

I have attempted to watch the film at least 3 times and still have no clue why people thought it was so funny.

Soundgarden......everything that was embarrassing/annoying about 90's alt rock wrapped up in one band.

Scary movies. I went to .25 of one.  This might be the year for me to learn to appreciate them.

This is the ONLY movie I can remember watching that gave me no reaction whatsoever*.

I didn't hate it. I didn't love it. I didn't think it was mediocre. Nothing.

(* = that is unless you count being thankful that I didn't spend any money when I borrowed it from a friend)

Twilight, Lost, Star Trek, The Rolling Stones, Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Big Bang Theory...

I'm sure there's more lol

Really I never will give Twilight a chance. Just can't bring myself to do it. I'm not a sappy love story type of gal and the last time vampires were cool was when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on tv still.

The rest I've given a chance and either thought to myself " whyyyy?!?" Or it just didn't interest me in any way whatsoever. The biggest dissapointment out of all of those was Its Always Sunny. I always heard great things, and literally every one of my friends raves about it and I found the characters ( besides Charlie who I do love) to be obnoxious and just not funny. At all.

Big Bang Theory is just fucking stupid and I have a big, in depth nerdy reason why it's stupid but the short answer is that it's just not funny and every character is a dildo.

As an active metal musician in a signed band on tour that was dropped by our label while on tour in 1992(wehn Grunge hit hard)..
lets just say its more an animosity to that movement, and all the ensuing crappy 90's rock that ............well,has not progressed much since

Hmm.any of this Lords of the Rings/Hobbit stuff, and being a metalhead this probably makes me lose many metal points
All reality TV(which is now probably 65% of what is on,one reason I have disconnected my cable and do not miss it)
99% of all pop music since around 1992(seems like Metal wasn't the only music genre to suffer the "Music Revolution",as real R&B was also pretty much crushed as well)
Any of the Jam Bands/druggie cultures

the kardashians. skip the fact that it's "fake" reality tv or whatever, they're sooooooo boring. is it because they're pretty that people tune in? i mean, that can't be the only reason. that gets boring after a while, doesn't it? right? i don't get it.

-A Clockwork Orange. I tried, I really, really tried, but I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaated it.

-I've also never seen Indiana Jones. No desire, whatsoever.

-I also refuse to watch Star Wars, but only because I won't watch any franchise out of order and the first ones have such hideously dated FX that I can't stomach watching it. If they rebooted the entire thing from the beginning, though, I'd be on that shit like addict on crack cocaine, I love scifi/fantasy-- I loved, loved Star Trek 09 and am stoked for that sequel big_smile

-I don't get why people think George Clooney is all that, he's a good actor but I don't find him attractive, AT ALL, even when he was younger.

-"Soul" and R&B music, I cannot for the life of me stand Mariah Carey or Beyonce style music. I hate it! Please note, however, that's not to say I think they can't sing, I just can't stand what they're singing. At all.

I agree with a lot that's being written here too.

Star Wars -  I saw the first one when it came out in theaters and I came out dizzy from all the short scenes.

Grunge - Boring!  The 90's sucked profusely for music.

Reality TV - what the hell is wrong with people watching this crap.

And for the past 3 years I do not own a TV at all.  I don't miss it.

There have been so many...

Reality TV is a big one (the things like Survivor and American Idol.) Are we really supposed to believe that these shows aren't contrived?

Professional sports. To me, it's asinine that our society deems it necessary to pay obscene amounts of money to watch a game. Do fanatics realize that the players they adore make more money than is generated by most small towns?

Trash literature turned massive entertainment franchise. Yes, I'm looking at you, "Twilight".

That show is so overplayed and exaggerated, it's an embarrassment to the writing team.

On that note, it is a fad to be 'nerdy' these days as if intellectualism isn't enough sans pair of anti-chic glasses and Rubix Cube tees.

Cameraphones. (They may not BE popular media, but they create it.)

When they first started putting cameras in cellphones, I thought it was the dumbest idea ever. Why would you ever combine those 2 things? I never had an urge to start snapping pictures when talking on the phone. What's next? Toastertelevisions? Maybe a toohbrushhairdryer? What kind of idiot would need a cameraphone?

... Guess I was wrong about that one.

"Reality" TV - Wut???

"American Idol" and all of it's grasping demonic spawn - Groan...

Abstract Art - Pollock sort of stuff - makes me think of a 6 year old - paint - and a massive tantrum.

Computer based or console gaming. Just never got into it. I used to love playing arcade games when I was a kid (Tempest and Omega Race FTW!), and even managed an arcade for awhile during college, but when it came to computer or console-based games, it just never clicked for me.

Neither Mariah Carey nor Beyonce sing soul.  I grew up in the Motown and Stax/Volt era.  That was soul.
