You're 44. Isn't that a little old to be caring what other people think?

Explain what you do and what you don't do. If they can't handle that, it's a THEM problem, not a YOU problem.

IMO you cant convince anyone, all you can do is show the photos you produce and let them have their own opinion

you do nudes. you're going to burn in hell. me, too, since i shoot them. lol. my family thinks i shoot porn.

honestly i don't think you can change anyone's opinion. just try to reassure them that you are taking precautions to stay safe and haven't turned into a hooker.

and the whole art thing sometimes seems like people trying too hard to convince others that what they are doing is acceptable. anyway art is in the eye of the beholder, not the person who made the work. one mans' porn is another man's art. and there can be porny art and artsy porn. and just plain tacky sh*t that can be a lot of fun to shoot!

+1 and just learn to embrace how it makes you feel. At the end of the day and this lifetime that's all that matters. For the haters just tell them "there's nothing wrong with being beautiful and proud, after all mother nature doesn't wear clothes either!" ...then look at the stunned looks on their faces, smile and carry on! Have fun and good luck!

"I'm doing some art modelling."

I know the above statement is simple but just practice your delivery until you can say it in a clear and authoritative manner.

You are beautiful.  If you choose to model the only validation you need is from you. If they don't understand than that's their right, and their fallacy.  Just you be true to you and those who truly love you will continue to.

And keep taking those amazing photos!

It's very simple.  Get a large picture of yourself posing naked and hang it in your family's living room.

I am sure they will appreciate fine art.

Make sure they don't see anything you've done that they will feel isn't artistic.

I think it's all been said. Your certainly old enough that you shouldn't have to prove anything to anyone. Why do you care what people think about your work?

This one is tough... I don't think the answer is to not show your work, because simply put its what makes you happy. To not show your work is accepting the idea that you care what others think, and i know for me personally i have an uphill battle with this one as do im sure many other photographers and models alike. If we don't strive to push boundaries and show images that are unconventional it becomes difficult to be noticed. To the OP i would say that you do what makes you happy, your family should be more understanding of this or they do not deserve the "family" title. No one says they have to like your work, but being respectful to your ideas and interests is nothing short of what im sure they would request from you.

Photographers often have a similar problem.  I simply drafted my wife as my assistant.  By the third or fourth shoot, she was so bored with the whole thing that I couldn't pay her to come into the studio when I'm shooting.  She does keep the rest of the family off my back though.

Have everyone make up a detailed list of what they think you shouldn't do, then burn all the lists in front of them.

Two steps:

1) I don't show my mom EVERYTHING
2) I don't apologize for ANYTHING
