All things said here I couldn't agree with you more.

The reason for my post was simply to clarify a few things that were left out; though I don't believe it was intentional.

Though Sony may win this gen console war, I suspect the old skeletons in their closet will resurface and bite back the customers.

PS3, dual boot Linux - oh wait, though we gave that option to you, we shall take it back. lol

Looks like M$ is doing more damage to themselves.  lol

I'm beginning to think they swapped PR/Marketing employees.

I definitely agree with you on the bolded section. This is why I'm not buying a console myself on release. Not really planning to buy one at all at this time.

Starting to become a bit of picking a lesser evil for consoles... haha.

I'm sticking to my  PS2 until I hear a solid confirmation that ALL ps2 games are on the network. Until then, I'll happily keep playing my samurai warriors, soul calibur, vice city, and okami smile dance dance revolution is also fun.

You have a PS2 and you don't have Resident Evil 4? What's the matter with you girl? smile

I guess you can go tell my friends who work with/for Microsoft that they are kidding themselves then about these "features."

Seriously though, I do like how changing the dashboard for the 360 somehow equates to what kind of changes would be required for the Xbox One. If Microsoft wants to truly fix this, they're going to have to do it before it ships (it would be easiest than trying to send out updates), and there would be a lot to do.

Regardless of ability, Microsoft has released official statements saying they WILL NOT BE changing it. If you follow their posts, they have been defending their stance the entire way as opposed to considering there may be actual flaws with this new set of policies. In fact, they told the military if they are deployed in a country that has been banned from being able to play the Xbox One, for example, they can play the 360.

So yeah, Sony wins. No every 24 hour online checks, no DRM bullcrap, no cutting out countries (the entirety of Asian can't play the Xbox One till late 2014 - much of South America, Europe, and the entirety of Africa are cut out with no word about being let in), PS4 is region free - same as PS3, Sony's nextgen is cheaper in both starting price and online play fees, and Sony still has a pretty decent game lineup.

Edit: To note, I was a huge Microsoft fan. I have the 360 and have been playing it for many years. That doesn't mean I support this new development though. I find this very unwise and alienating to many players. The sports/tv focus also sucks - it's as schizophrenic as Windows 8 (with its mobile UI for desktop users and Windows desktop for tablet users).

I've never really been into the PS systems or Sony as a whole, but if I ever buy a console for this generation (I have a custom built PC, so I'm not really that interested in consoles at all right now), I'm going Sony. Trust me when I say I never thought I'd see the day where those words came out of my mouth.

It certainly may be a horrible move.  The bad PR it is creating and the $100 higher price point I think will have significant impact.

Maybe you know important people at Microsoft, or maybe you know people who think they are important at Microsoft.  I work for a major company and about half of them don't have a clue as to what 80% of what our products can do.  And for those that are intimately aware of nearly all of our products, they still do know everything.

We had system that required regular check ins with a central server.  When we abandoned the product, we made it so those regular check ins were no longer required so that they could continue using their product.

They can do it if they want to.  Of course they are going to say they won't change.  Can you imagine how stupid that would be at this moment?  To roll out all this "look what we can do" and then immediately turn around "whoa...we decided this is a fuck up...not gonna do it."  It's TOO huge to change now.  Especially if you have commitments from other companies that are expecting them to go forward with this.  It's going to take a LOT of meetings, deals, and haggling to undo this.  Microsoft is not going to allow any particular feature to destroy the entire console.  That would be epically stupid.

If the market tells them we are not ready for this, then Microsoft will adjust.

As for other nations...I believe with the original Xbox, it took a while before it hit their markets as well.  I do not recall the 360 launch well enough to remember if they got it at the same time.

The sky isn't falling...not yet.

I read that Sony's electronics division loses money every year. Ironically they make all their $ in insurance. I wonder why they continue to stay within it

Insurance?

well, I don't know about their other electronics, but I'm sure their PlayStation department is making a shit ton of money.

We're honestly just arguing what ifs, so I guess there's really no use continuing this until the future comes and shows us just what Microsoft and Sony has to offer smile

Xbox One is also including a (previously priced for the less advanced) $150 Kinect in this price.

We can argue all day long about the restrictive game trading and always on and 3 other things. But if we are looking at the price for the hardware, they are closely in line when you include the Kinect.

True...but at the same time, Sony has included some camera thingy too.  But I have no idea what it can do.

it did well at launch, but there literally isn't a single good game for it which is why microsoft hasn't updated sales figures for it in a year and a half...pretty sure that's related to customers finding out how useless it really is

Just stating:
I know so many people who bought the Kinect thinking it was going to be the greatest thing, and even the games where you *can* use voice commands to assist, they don't use it. The most they really use it for is when watching movies to tell the system to pause or play the movie.

That being said, even with as much as Kinect sold, I think it turned out to be a "flop" product.

Oh...so...since there aren't any games YOU like.  That means there isn't a single good game for it.

Ok...it's all about you.  Got it!

I get it if you don't like it.  I don't like the controller of a PS.  Mostly because I'm not used to it.  Outside of that, I don't like the that thumbsticks are aligned with each other and the buttons use symbols instead of more obvious colors and recognizable letters.  But I also understand that that is my issue.  I don't expect others to feel the same way.  Afterall, the ONLY reason I ended up getting an Xbox (original) was because of Halo.  Otherwise I'd have happily bought a PS2.  Then I'd be a Sony fanboy and laughing my ass off right now and talking about stooped Kinect is making fun of the the Xbox One licensing to make myself feel better about the PS4.

I took a different road.  And the only thing holding me to a Xbox One is again...damn it...Halo.  If Halo was coming out for PS4, I wouldn't be pre-ordering either system.  I'd wait it out to see which one is gonna look better.  Initial reports are suggesting the PS4 is going to look better.  But since I'm all about Halo...it doesn't matter. I know the Xbox One is going to look fantastic.  Perhaps not AS fantastic, but still look fantastic.  So I'll be happy.

If Playstation ever has an exclusive that captures my attention as much as Halo...then I'll be owning two systems...so I hope that never happens...I don't want to fork out another $400 on hardware.

Apparently, Xbox360 is the KING.  But I'm not going to shit all over PS3 for its shortcomings. I don't own one, so it doesn't matter to me.

PS4 and Xbox One are going to have some fucking amazing games to play.  Whether you like it or not.

I think the only games that did well for Kinect were the Dance Central series. The rest definitely flopped.

You mean the Kinect is a bathroom tool?

I have long suspected so. And I have been right all these times.

Kids I've watched play like that Kinecmals...or whatever it's called.  Some virtual pet game.  Friends and family have a great time with Kinect Sports.  The second one is kind of blah.

Tiger Woods implementation of Kinect was decent in the demo.  But ultimately, I didn't get it because Ive never really been into "serious" golf simulations.

Various exercise software has been decent.  I only have one and fuck...it was a hard workout.

If true, they sure are making a fast move to mod the hardware...
