I was just wondering how many models (and photographers) here have a Tumblr for their work? And how useful have you personally found it. I've been thinking about setting up one for a little while now and would love to hear some feedback.

Thank you!

I do! I find it really useful for sending people all of my photos, since they're mostly entirely there.

I use Tumblr as my main sharing site for my photos. I will often post a link to Facebook or Twitter, but Tumblr is where I post them initially, generally. I like Tumblr because sharing and liking photos is quick and easy, and (assuming people leave credits intact) images can easily be traced back to the original poster. It's a good way to get exposure, though I do feel the messaging system (Ask) is not great. I like that I can post anything I want without fear of it being deleted (other than nude videos, apparently). There is a lot of explicit stuff on Tumblr, but there is also a lot of great work.

I also have one for reblogging models without tattoos & other body mods (yes, I do take submissions):

I love Tumblr. It's pretty much the only platform out there that doesn't police content. I'm at marlowraemodel.tumblr.com

My photography page on Facebook got reported for a third time today, banning my personal account for three days. I'll have to move to Tumblr soon.

I've tried it out twice for personal stuff/reblogging and just couldn't get into it, but I never posted my own work so I'll try that and maybe it'll be different.

Happily using Tumblr as a means of presenting ideas and inspirations to potential clients.who can view the content without having to sign up and without having javascript enabled to view the content.
I also use my own website to display my own work and not Tumblr.

Tumblr is super awesome. They allow nudity! It's true, there is a lot of porn and bondage. But hey, it's the internet.

It's also a really nice way to let people know what I'm up to. I'm posing constantly and constantly receiving beautiful images, but it would be silly to update MM when I already have a strong port. On tumblr I can show the variety of what I do and the consistency and quality with which I do it.

I have a Tumblr, but it's for my own (amateur) photography.  I'm having some fun with it, if nothing else...

I use it - not as much as facebook, but for instance it's really convenient to display the uncensored versions of facebook images.

I am slowly getting into tumblr.  Not a whole lot of posts and still need to settle on the best theme.  Still pretty interesting to see what's out there though!

Is it useful? Not for me. I get more request to shoot from my website and instacrap than Tumblr.

Tumblr is great for being able to post pretty much any content you want to post when it comes to photography related stuff. They allow nudity, fetish, porn, ect ect.

The only downside is that the stuff you post has a high chance of being reblogged onto porn blogs and there's really nothing you can do about that. Also, there's quite a bit of stolen content on tumblr too - I've had my fair share of people taking pictures from my blog and reposting them without any credits.

There is already a great tumblr sharing thread:

https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=733426

It would be a lot more useful to keep all the tumblr references on one thread, so if you are here, repeat over there and then shut this baby down.  That one now has >800 postings.  Not all are tumblr links, but I will guess that maybe 400 are.  I love tumblr and more than half the tumblr accounts I follow came from that thread.

BTW, I am http://analyticanatomy.tumblr.com/

I thought of opening one too. it's really handy, you can even password protect them. So access for clients only.

Why don't you use Wordpress? I think it is much better to present your portfolio.

It's the wild west on Tumblr with very little enforcement. Great for photographers like me who don't want to create censored versions of photos. The price is right and there is a growing selection of templates to get started. The biggest downside is the group of people who reblog without maintaining the credits. I hope there is a special place in hell for people like that.
