This is the first thread in my entire life that has to do with soccer, a sport I stopped following in the late 70's. A little useless trivia, my father played for Bayern Munich in the late 50's, not Bundesliga, but a lower division.

I was born in Munich and my little brother, Uwe, was named after a then popular German player Uwe Seeler (20s clip of amazing goal in 1960), but my interest in athletics went a completely different competitive sport.

Okay... enough about me, besides that I am rather incompetent about the new rules or the names of the players etc.

Let this be a collection for speculations, ideas, rumors for the FIFA finals between Germany and Argentina.

I have just watched an interesting interview on German television, which said that it appears that Brazil would be rooting for Germany in the finals and not their neighbor Argentina... A Brazilian fan stated, right after the losing game that he wishes Germany beats Argentina with 8-0...

====================================================

CONGRATULATIONS to the German Eleven and it's team behind the scene!

Herzlichen Glueckwunsch fuer die Deutsche Elf und ihr Team im Hintergrund!!! :like: smile

Germany will be the new weltmeister.

Seeing Argentina play yesterday, it was definitely not convincing from either side, they focused on counters, and to top it all off, needed 120min, and have a less day off. If they weren't broken before, they are now.

LOL

That doesn't surprise me. When Argentina & Brazil soccer teams play each other, its like akin to watching a Yankees-Red Sox game or the Boston Bruins - Montreal Canadians play. The teams may have a sucky year but they go all out against each other.

To state the obvious, I'm quite sure that part of Brazil's thought process is that if Argentina gets smeared all over the landscape, we'll feel better because we don't look quite so bad.

I think Germany will win.

Every time I hear that name, I flash to Young Frankenstein and "Schwanzstucker."

Was not very impressed with either Netherlands or Argentina at the semi finals. So no matter who would have gone through, they would have still lost/will still lose to Germany, barring some milagro de Dios.

That is an incredible shot, especially from a seated position! How he got that much power behind it in that position is beyond me.

I put my money on Argentina 2 years ago. I still think they will beat the Germans.

It will be a huge shock if Argentina beats Germany. Just look at the last 2 games! Germany is a MUCH stronger team, has been for some time.

Nope. Just like the Super Bowl or World Series or NBA finals or Stanley Cup. Battle of the champions.

And the flopping and crying gets annoying, yes.

At least neither side will be slow in running into the other persons half of the pitch.

I was dead wrong. The game to decide third place and to see whether Brazil's depression deepens or the nation gets tossed a bone, starts in about half an hour, if I'm reading right.

So unlike, I think, about every American professional championship series, there's a consolation round to this one. Well... consolation to someone.

Well spoke there.

For anyone who's interested, which is not many: Final score: Netherlands over Brazil, 3-0. The stalwart Silva, back from his suspension, brilliantly pulled a Netherlannds player down in the box, resulting in a penalty kick and a Netherlands lead, 1-0, in the first two minutes. The tears must've begun earlier.

This was definitely not Brazil's year for soccer!

Poor babies!  sad

I am guessing they thought hosting the WC, building the infra structure and stadiums will somehow give them a victory by default and didn't prepare their team enough...

Being cocky is always a problem in a tournament. I know this from experience in my personal sport... browsing with ease through the rounds, reaching the finals, thinking as the reigning state champion, and the matches of that day, will make it relatively easy for me to win Gold... but... my cockiness made me sloppy and I lost.

Happened a few times in my youth until I learned not to take the final fight lightly.

I had observed this also a few times in soccer or other games, when a favored team was too cocky... and everybody expected that team win... then the opposing team punished the favored team.

I hope that Germany won't fall in that trap and plays their asses off against Argentina! smile

Germany will win, and this will be good for Britain, because maybe we can finally shut the fuck up about 1966 and admit we are a second/third rate footballing nation.
Although why anyone cares is beyond me. It really is just some boys kicking a ball around. But people live their whole lives around it. I once got trapped on a coach by some fan(atic) who surely must have had every single footballing fact at his fingertips. It was excruciating, like listening to cardboard talk. I could feel the front of my brain going numb.

I could wax on about the atavism and spectacle of sports and the stupefying diversion of resources, but it's probably too Soapboxish, and I think I sorta just did.

Germany will win, they look on amazing form, truly invincible, highly efficient and working as a team, rather then the 'one man' show BS we've seen from other teams.

I say good luck to them, they deserve it!

We spent £12 billion on the Olympics. Think what the same amount invested in the arts could do.  Maybe 2012 was the end of the world, maybe that celebration of well oiled muscle as the pinnacle of human achievement does represent a kind of death.

Deutschland is the better team -and that is not a dig at Argentina. It's just a fact. Having said that (and as anybody who watches any type of sports know), the "better" team doesn't always win.

I've had this on for 15-20 minutes. Watching soccer puts me at the same level of excitement as watching paint dry.

And the second I type that, Germany scores. lol

Or watching a bridge rust. I tried to watch a couple of the games, I really did but just couldn't manage more than a few minutes before I had to change the channel due to intense boredom. And the title game was no different...almost two hours with no score?

To each his own though and congrats to Germany.  smile
