That's just friggin' awesome !!!

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Great light, Great pose, Great conversion for a great photograph.

Note that since it isn't kosher to comment on the model, I didn't say "Awesome model too " !!

So is it 4 softboxes,I can only see 2 reflections? Maybe the alienbees were "big ass softboxes" but it reads like 4!

Very Basic:  2 inexpensive hot lights to the right and slightly behind model.

I'm extending the thread; I hope it doesn't upset the chronological balance. It's about the illustraotions. What program did you use to get the various icons when illustrating the set ups. It makes the set-ups appear quite clearly.

Looks like a three light setup. You have the background light, broad hairlight and the main light with a lower setting than the hairlight and background light.

I would actually say this is a 4 light setup and maybe 5 if there is a light on the wall and it's not just selectively burnt/dodged in PS.

Here's how I think it went:

Two side lights on either side, one hairlight, one mainlight and as I said, possibly a light on the wall.  The mainlight doesn't necessarily have to be lower than the side and/or hairlight and I would guess that in this case, they're not...  But I may, of course, be wrong.

Great stuff everyone, thanks for sharing! Here's a recent one I did:

https://modelmayhm-6.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/091013/11/4ad4c73e71473.jpg

I don't have that diagram thing, but the lighting was an Alien Bee 1600 with a 52inch photoflex umbrella to camera right, and a 580exII to the left rear of the model.

I've found that this setup can make pretty much any situation look f'ing AMAZING. I've been using it non-stop without fail. Split lighting = epic.

New photographer and trying hard to get my brain around this whole lighting thing.  I bought a continuous lighting set (cheap) that has three lights.  They are equiped with the spiral 100W bulbs.  However, this does not seem to provide enough light to me although they claim 100Watts each bulb.  What type of replacement bubls would you suggest I buy to make this starter set better/brighter?

Thanks for any help and also for this wonderful thread on lighting!
