May 02, 2012 10:59am Would you like to compete in Modern Basic Distributors final round of their ABA Makeup Competition to be held on SUNDAY May 6 2012 at the Northlands Expo Centre in Edmonton?
Attached is the required release form that you will need to sign before being able to compete in the competition. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Please RSVP to this email by May 2, 2012 with your kit selection and model name to ensure your spot within the makeup competition.
Wearing an all black wardrobe would be preferred for professional photos .There will be photos of you applying the makeup that could be used in further advertising materials, dress how you would like to portray your image, please no brand names on clothing.
A makeup kit will be provided for each makeup artist to use during the competition. The list of products as well as a copy of our catalogue is included for you to choose your shades. Please return your selection by email to [email protected] by May 2, 2012. The products are all chosen in a pre-determined kit, and you will have 5 additional single makeup products that you can choose for your look. See the attached list for makeup products in your kit.

Make up Cape to drape model
Any gem stones, jewelry or accessories you wish to incorporate into your look- excluding anything glass or sharp.
Costuming
Hair Styling Equipment (you will be provided with a power outlet)

Please ensure that you have read this email carefully as it includes vital details to your success in this makeup competition.
Attached are the forms for the makeup competition, please note that you do not need to print them out and sign them, as they will be at your station when you arrive at the competition and you can sign them on site. Your model, and yourself both will also need to sign a photo release agreement before the beginning of the competition.

YOU WILL RECIVE A KIT UPON ARRIVAL AT THE COMPETITION THE CONTENTS ARE LISTED IN THE ATTACHMENT:

Judging
Decisions made by competition judges are and will remain final.
1. Competitors' make-up will be judged based on the following criteria: Reflection of Theme, Design, Application Technique, Use of Color and Overall Presentation. Hairstyling and costuming are worth up to five extra points.
2. Each criterion will be worth a possible 10 points, with a score of one being the lowest and ten being the highest.
3. First, Second and Third Place will be awarded in each themed category.
FINALLY, PLEASE CONFIRM THAT YOU WILL BE ATTENDING THIS MAKEUP COMPETITION AND SEND ME THE NAME OF YOUR MODEL BEFORE WEDNESDAY May 2, 2012 SO WE CAN CREATE A BADGE FOR THEM TO GET IN THE SHOW
*Please note, before photos will also be taken of each model before the makeup application begins for judging purposes.
FAQ
1.) Do you need the release forms signed and submitted beforehand or will the day of be sufficient? The day of the competition will be fine for you to hand in your forms, I have sent them out just so you know what you are signing and do not have a surprise the day of the competition.
2.) What time can we come to the convention center to, for example, prep the hair before the competition? Or does that have to be done outside the complex? You will have to arrive at the competition at the same time as the other competitors the earliest will be 9am, hair and nails can be done previous to the competition outside of the complex.
3.) Will we be able to bring a sealer ( RCMA Sealer) for the wax or that is not allowed? The RCMA Sealer will be allowed for sealing your wax work as I understand some people are allergic to latex (prosaid would be fine too if you choose)
4.) Will we receive any of the photos from the shoot (even just for the models portfolios)? Each contestant will receive 3 finished photos of their work that they can then use at their digression, given the photographer is credited
5.) Is there a theme for the fantasy makeup? Or does anything go? The Theme of the makeup is Coachella Beauty Style and Superheroes
6.) Will there be time in between the two areas of the competition for a complete removal of the Coachella look to the fantasy look? Will there be cleansers or wipes available or should we bring our own? If you would like to remove the makeup during your break you are welcome to, we have created this competition so that you have the choice of removing the first makeup, or building on it for your second look. Baby wipes and makeup remover will be available for removal of your makeups. If you require any further removal products (super solve, isopropyl mirostate) you must bring them yourself.
7.) What should our model wear for the competition? During the application portion of the competition please have your model dressed in a black, or white tank top, or tube top, as photos will be taken during the application process.

Modern Basic Distributors Professional Makeup Artist Competition Itinerary SUNDAY May 6, 2012
8:30am – earliest time competitors and models can arrive and collect badges from the exhibitor booth at the Northland Expos Centre Edmonton
9:00 - 9:30am arrival at Modern Basic booth 926 , 1226 and sign in, hand in ALL SIGNED FORMS set up at your work station; “before” shots of models taken.
09:30am – 10:15am: the first look is created. This look will be a COACHELLA STYLE LOOK and
SUPERHERO BEAUTY
10:15am – 10:30am: time to dress models in their wardrobe and touch up hair. NO MAKEUP TOUCHUPS.
10:30am – 11:30am: models will be photographed in their first look.
11:30am – 12:30 break for lunch, clean off makeup if you are not building on it for second makeup look, set up for next makeup look.
12:30pm – 2:30pm: the second look is created. This look will be a SUPERHERO BEAUTY look of your choice
2:30pm – 2:45pm – dress model, fix hair, final touch ups. No more makeup application aside from powder and finals.
2:45 pm-3:00pm – Group shot of models and artists
3:00pm – end of day - photo shoot for the final look.
When your photos are complete you can clean up your stations and clean off model’s makeup.
** Note- judging will not be done on site. Winners will notified via phone/email within 10 business days**

Rules and Regulations
* You will have 45 minutes to apply a Coachella style makeup and 2 hours to complete your Superheroes fantasy makeup
*The competition will be photographed.
*All makeup must be completed within the allotted time of the competition
*All makeup products to be used in the competition aside from props and accessories must be Modern Basic products that will be supplied for you
*False lashes may be applied during competition time. They will be provided in your kit.
*Hair may be pre-set/styled. You may use hair pieces, extensions, wigs, head dresses, hats or other adornments
*You may bring your own skin care products if you wish as this will not be provided
*Nails may be painted prior to competition
*You will be provided with an electrical outlet to use as you may need (ex. Curling Iron)
*No airbrushing permitted
*You will not be judged on outfits or accessories, but will be judged on the final look. These items may compliment or complete your final look.
*Throughout the competition there will be no referral to illustrations, photos, pictures, books, mobile phones, blackberrys, or ipads.
*One model with comp card must be supplied by competitor. One model per artist.
No assistants will be permitted. The competitor must apply all make-up by him/herself.
* Artists must complete a full body makeup for the 2nd look. This includes:
a.) Full front torso and legs
b.) Full back torso legs + face
c.) Full front and back torso
* Models must arrive with no make-up on prior to the start of the competition. If models arrive with make-up on, they will be required to remove it.
* Talking will not be permitted during the competition unless it aids the make-up artist in application of make-up to the model.
* Modern Basic Distributors will supply all makeup used for your design
* Nudity is not allowed, minimum clothing permitted: string bikini
* Prosthetic appliances are not allowed. Bald cap may be applied prior to competition, if it’s part of the hair or costuming.
*Makeup must not be removed until the competition has ended
*You will be disqualified for failure to abide by the above rules.
* Poor attitudes will not be permitted and result in immediate disqualification.
Photo Release Agreement
**By allowing your picture to be taken by Modern Basic Distributors you are agreeing that the photo may be used in any manner and media for any purpose. Including; posting on www.mbbeautysupply.com
and other promotional websites and materials. You hereby agree to allow Modern Basic Distributors to use your name and photograph without any further compensation or notice from Modern Basic Distributors.
